  1. I hope my BC's never attack, sure that's not a breed instinct.
  2. I bought a single tank, non heating hydrobath, I had the plumber fit outdoor hot and cold taps next to the bath area. I fill the bath with warm water and add the shampoo, I then let out the water release valve open and rinse off with my own clean, fresh warm water. I picked a bath that had an exterior water release, not one that I had to remove the dog to get to the plug...hope that makes sense.
  3. I'd really like a dog that doesn't shit near where my kids play, do you have dog like that?
  4. Too funny and is a bit like me playing tug with my Maligator.
  5. I have tried both forms of correction collars on my own neck, give me a prong collar any day over a check chain:))
  6. I use a thick toothed metal comb on my Mal...is this a Malinios or a Malamute???? I'm guessing a Malamute??
  7. It would be awesome to attend. You should get this moved to the Training section.
  8. Congrats Sas and Dante, great pics too.
  9. I am flying blind, but knowing other clicker trained Labs I would guess she is just getting anxious about the reward or nervous about the delay of the reward. If you want to clicker train you need to set your criteria, seems you don't want the licking so just need to work on that and don't lump the training. Have a goal before you train what your plan is and stick to that, don't get greedy. We all tend to get greedy, I know I do. If you don't want licking, click before you get licking.
  10. That will be quite difficult as the moment she thinks it's a training (means me giving her a more than say three commands) she starts licking, eager though, she loves training. Is there any opportunity to click the not licking, maybe after one command? Yo yo it around. Is there a reason why licking is so bad? You should be clicking intermittently so she doesn't get concerned. Are you sure it's not due to stress?
  11. Could you click her when she's not licking??
  12. My Koolie was a shit to give tablets too, could sniff them out of anything. One time she was ill and needed to be medicated BID, so I thought, too bad she just has to do it. I squashed her shoulders in between my legs and shoved the tablets down, I gave her yummy treats after wards. I starting adding a cue, and it took no time for her to work it out. I give the verbal (lollies), she presents between my legs, I touch her face and she opens her mouth and swallows the bad tablets...bless her. She always gets something super yummy after it, I guess I trained it, but I didn't mean to or hope or think to get it this good. Smart dogs.
  13. I've been helping some new dog owners with a Beagle puppy and I get heaps of reinforcement from them. They are doing an awesome job with this pup and have taught her so many tricks and behaviors. I know how good it makes you feel when you can see they are getting good results and are clearly practicing what you have taught them. I hate it when people tell me they haven't had time to train.
  14. Woolworths (in the deli section) and Joes meats usually have chicken breast fillets for $7.99 per kilo:))
  15. That would be me...or I would be hunting you to the depths of hell.
  16. I was a crossover trainer and I think Chill came to me to teach me how to handle a sensitive dog. Rhythm came to me to boost my confidence that I hadn't made Chill nutty and I can raise a sound natured dog. Prix came to me to teach me that even though I am a motivational trainer, don't cross the boundaries, there are lines to obey, so 'hey Buddy' it is worth towing the line. Dogs are so awesome. I truly believe that all our dogs come to us for a reason.
  17. Yep I am just a PM away. Love the name Colliewood, some of the top UK obedience dogs are Prefix Colliewood. :D
  18. you invite close comforting contact then you separate him from yourselves so he's alone at night - he's probably stressing and not understanding why bed time means separation. he's comfortable in the ensuite, then he's back to laundry (ie pack separation) again for no reason (in his mind) answer? Get a crate, put it inside the house and he sleeps in that. Sounds like he spends all day by himself, which to him is not a problem, but the added night separation is a bit much for him. If you add it up he spends, what, 5 - 6 hours out of 24 with you, round about? Not much really for a pack animal that technically would barely spend time on its own. Exactly, crate him inside with you. You can gradually move his crate to a more prefered area. All my dogs sleep inside in crates, no noise.
  19. I couldn't get over how the dog fighting guy truly believed the law was wrong and it was a sport that was perfectly acceptable, he was so wrong on so many levels, it's sad to think people like him are real. Also he openly admitted to killing more than 200 dogs and seemed fine with it???? I wonder if that was an edited number or he just has no shame. I was hoping Rescue Inc would beat the shit out of him, see if he likes it, like he think his dogs do.
  20. My dog moves on SFE as she would prefer strangers not to touch her. She has always been really timid and I've worked really hard to get her to like other peole but still can't get a SFE. She has no plroblem doing the excercise for anyone she knows. I believe she has a good uinderstanding of what she is meant to be doing. I also know she understands stand stay as I can throw toys, bounce a ball around her, whatever and she does not move. If I have a toy in my hand then anyone can do it as she is so focused on the toy, I can't get her through it without the toy. First lesson, At first we tried to feed her for being steady, I have done stuff like that with her for ever and it is not a big enough reward to her to put up with the stranger. She will take the food but not stand still for the stranger. K said she is just being a Princess and doesn't want anyone to touch her and she needs to get over it, he could see she wasn't too bothered as she would still take food from him or myself. I set her up and she moved, he took her off me and stood with her between his legs patting her, he then stepped away and did it again and again, after a few minutes I could see her just sigh and relax. He then held the lead and I set her up for SFE, we did an easy one and I verbally praised her but did not reward, then we did a harder one and rewarded. Second lesson didn't go as well as the end of the first lesson but he said that often happens. Third lesson she was brilliant, he shuffled his feet towards her, went over her very thoroughly, we did it at a bigger distance. Forth lesson we just kept upping the excercise, he would jog into her, we got different people to do it, if she even slightly moved I blanked her and ignored her for a minute then set it up again. If she moved on an easy one then she had to do a harder one before being rewarded. It was a bit more involved than that but that's basically it. I think for my dog it was having a consequence for moving, I had never done this to her, she understood quickly that she has do get on with it and do it. She had done a brilliant job at training me to make it easier for her instead of me making it harder for her. I was really lucky to get to spend the week with him and get this sorted as well as many other problems.
  21. Training is the fun part, I would never work them before or after training. I don't crate them after training but training is the most fun my dogs get. Being put back in the yard is not as much fun as training is. I guess the whole crate thing depends on the dog, how reinforcing being free is to him/her. To my dogs, being in the yard is boring.
