Hi Deemar, I have never given a puppy Glucosamine, but for health reasons, my 40kg Pointers get one 1000mg tablet (for humans) each every night, plus 3 - 4X 1000mg Fish Oil caps and 1X 500IU Vit E cap, each. :)

Will have to try it on my dog's poor skin where needed, as he has come down with Cushing's Syndrome.

All our previous Pointers had dew claws removed by the breeder, except our last Pointer. Mum's Cav X JR and my Kelpie still have their front dew claws, both partially broke their's recently, but they grew back normal in no time. :)

Cool off, staffydave, nobody said small staffies, or your staffy - attacked the jogger. Staffies don't worry me, but they worried the animals locked in an enclosure - belonging to Bateman's Bay High School, a while ago, when two staffies killed some of them, and maimed others ( LLamas and sheep). Around 1999, my desexed 12year old GWP female was attacked at my place/Surfside, by a Pit - Bull Type male dog, her skin around her neck ripped away. After calling for a hose to get his dog off mine, the owner/coward fled the scene with his precious dog. I was left to find a vet on a public holiday, to have my dog stitched up and pay for treatment. The screaming of my dog was so terrifying, that neighbours came running. The ranger noticed that the corner shop owner was playing stupid, and was covering up for the young Creek dog fanatic, who took off, up the mountain, past Pooh Bear Corner, back to the ACT. If pointers do something wrong, well, then they do wrong, why would I try to detest it? Why do so many people with bull breeds try to deny wrongs?? If your dog is kind to others, that's lovely, you are not under attack. But you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ears, as they say, you can try.

There were different breeds of dogs around in the olden days, in this country. Not many people would have felt cool then with a fighting bred pet, bred to fight till death, who can only be taken off it's victim - when hosing with water does not work - with a stick poked up it's bum. Very dainty, indeed! In 1969, everyone loved a Lab, they had the most gorgous lean black Labs in Darwin, took your breath away. A few years later, mum reckons, the lovely Great Danes were everywhere, miss those pure days.

Hi Spoony, sorry to read about your Harvey's illness, I know the worries you will have to battle through. I never regretted the chemo path I chose for Struppie. So far I won one year of life for him, it's trial and error too for my vet, and she is pleased with the result. Struppie was nearly three weeks off his 6 month long chemo, when the Lymphnodes enlarged again. Attempting rescue, we tried weekly IV Vincristine, and daily Macrolone tablets for a while, now 2nd weekly Vincristine - and Macrolone down to every forth day. Because of longterm/daily Cortisone use, Struppie now also suffers from severe Cushing syndrome, which can only get better if dropping the Cortisone, but the Lymphoma then would race ahead. I read on the internet, Cortisone should be given only every other day, to prevent Cushing's Syndrome. If Struppie is not showing pain - also he is more exhausted now, looks a mess, has fluid in his abdomen, is on fluid tablets, every day he is alive will be a gift to us. Should you have questions, do not hesitate to ask, please. I will be interested to follow your thread, also the occassion is very sad.

A sacrifice for me would be a life without my dogs and horses. Will never happen, don't want to have to go away on holidays either. Every day is a holiday, as is now, for me.

Just to let you know that Struppie is still hanging on. He had chemo again last Wednesday, the vet reckons he is still not showing signs that his cancer has spread. We give him the Macrolone/Cortisone only every fourth day now, as his skin integrity is so terribly poor (and very itchy), ideally, it needs dropping altogether, but then the cancer will advance faster. He is still keen to go for a walk, I think his Cushing's Syndrome is the cause of him being slow and tired when he returns home. He still waggs his tail and has a good appetite, too good to pts, yet. But we are watching him like hawks every day, for signs that he has enough.

Same here, some are ( or have been, because they are over the bridge now ) more adorable than others. It also depends on how keen they are on me, and what they are prepared to do for me - by their own free will.

They look like a happy lot, so lucky that they are safe now. You all are very caring people. :)

My husband always reckons, Terriers got more guts than brains, so to say - too much courage.

My 8 1/2 year old GWP is suffering from Lymphoma, and after a year long steroid use - combined with his chemo treatment, has come down with a second condition, namely iatrogenic cushing's syndrome.( He is battling on with his dropped belly (on fluid tablets), propelled by spindly legs, has to be covered up with clothes, and still finds a way to rub body areas raw when not watched.

Sounds like an unstable future for the pup, with owners in rented accomodation, that would be the cause of many dogs being surrendered. You know best, when you absolutely have to have something, I would go for it. :D
