  1. A large white dog should easily be spotted, he would be in a mess without his mate. Keep my fingers crossed for his safe return. Sorry to hear.
  2. Yes, there are aggressive dogs in every breed, not many of those breeds are banned by international airlines, that will not carry them. Why?? Nor are they purposely bred to fight other dogs, gnawl through them and kill, are that determined, once in a fight, that you can not seperate. Sorry to dissapoint, I love labs and retrievers, pointers, cattle dogs, sheep dogs, poodles, gsp's, all the littlies. Forgive if I have missed any, I am not concerned about their behaviour at all. I never heard any bad news about Rottweilers before. You cannot make pussycats out of a fighting bred dog breed ( Kampfhund), you can keep on trying. If you own one, microchip, register, desex, muzzle, keep contained, there are laws to be obeyed. Or run to your vet, make him lie for you, and record a different breed on the piece of paper ( as is happening). What next?
  3. I have witnessed my desexed 12 year old GWP bitch's neck being ripped open, by a pitbull, that entered our block from reserve next to it. No reason for attack, she just stood there on her home territory. Why unfair vendetta against these dogs, their ( and some other breed's) reported actions speak for themselves? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_dog_attacks_in_the_United_States#Fatalities_reported_in_2011
  4. Hmm, oh dear! http://www.dogsbite.org/dangerous-dogs-pit-bull-myths.php
  5. The person in video seems to be Heini Winter, who is listed as living in Augsburg, south west Bavaria, Germany. Dogs' coats would have grown a little bit longer in winter, see photo in following link from Musherzeitung. Doggies seem very eager to go. :) http://musherzeitung.myblog.de/musherzeitung/cat/323892/0/Alpen-Trail
  6. Actually, this doggy cross is quite attractive, the stylish GSP is prominent. :D
  7. Hmm, a bit morbid, unwholesome of mind.
  8. Sorry, Steve, unintentionally I posted article from different newspaper, related to same story you posted a day earlier.
  9. http://m.theage.com.au/environment/animals/animal-activist-rescues-dog-from-illegal-abattoir-20120202-1qvpc.html Exploitation of the helpless, never ending.
  10. What a lovely photo, sorry about your Tango leaving so premature.
  11. I wouldn't touch anything that is too cheap, especially fatty chicken mince, because once a dog has pancreatitis, he might not survive. I would buy roo mince from the pet shop, or the cheapest Aldi mince (human grade).
  12. Years ago I fed an old pointer bitch chicken mince and another time lamb offcuts from Woolies supermarket. Every time she became very ill with pancreatitis and lost a lot of weight, first cheap dogfood - then came big vet bills. Now I feed my dogs ox hearts, small amount of lambs fry, small amount lamb kidneys, lean chicken necks - cut into small pieces and flattened with mullet, roo mince, beef soup bones, low fat cheddar cheese, sometimes Royal Canin Labrador/Retriever kibble, fruit (mostly pear).
  13. Agree, these cross breeds are used for an unique australian hunting tradition, called pig sticking ( sticking knifes into pigs when they are caught and held by a mob of hunting dogs).
  14. As we live remote, both dogs stay inside the house, for their own safety as well. Ours is a dog's home, all dogs were raised in the living room.
  15. In 2004, I bought 2x male GWP pups with restricted rego papers for $ 550 each, now paid $ 1200 for one GWP pup with restr. reg. paper. IMO, dirt cheap then and now, with one parent either imported from overseas, plus bonus Aus & US champion. What price happiness, anyhow??
  16. German Shorthaired Pointer German Wirehaired Pointer Weimaraner Large Muensterlaender Standard Poodle
  17. Our galvanised dogmesh fence has rusted away, in areas, where we dug it into the soil, to stop our dogs from digging under. We tied the fence onto ground with the odd tent peg. We are surrounded by state forest, nothing will stop our two GWP dogs from running away to follow their noses, when given a chance to escape.
  18. A shocking loss! Between 1975 - 1979, when I travelled over to Tassie and back, my dogs had to be kept in grates on deck of the ferry. They must have relaxed the rules, much easier now, but at what price?
  19. Well, in the last 30 years we had seven GWP's, so it's unmistakenly German Wirehaired Pointer for me. I'm a slave. ;)

  21. Ballan puppy farm protest BY JENNIFER GREIVE 02 Oct, 2011 10:00 PM OPPOSERS of the approved puppy farm at Ballan say they will camp out at the site in protest in the coming weeks. About 60 people gathered in Ballan on Saturday to voice their opposition to the puppy farm, which is expected to be up and running at a property on the Geelong-Ballan Road within the next four years. A line of placard-bearing protesters marched down Ballan’s main street, pets in tow, before moving to what will be the site of the breeding facility. There, they released 50 helium balloons in recognition of the 50 dogs the facility will house. Moorabool Shire Council rejected a proposal for the puppy farm in June last year, after it received more than 1300 objections, including objections from Barwon Water and the RSPCA. But the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal overturned that decision in July this year, giving the dog breeding facility the green light to house 50 dogs – half that of the original application. Ballan resident Lee Scown organised the protest at the weekend with the support of the Oscar’s Law campaign to end the factory farming of pets in Australia. Ms Scown said she was furious at VCAT’s decision to approve the puppy farm. “He (the proponent) has a permit for 50 (dogs), but at any one time he can go back to VCAT and extend that to 100,” she said. “It’s disgusting – I don’t know how he’s going to be keeping these dogs. They just get bred constantly until the bitch can’t breed anymore and she either has a prolapse or she’s put down.” The proponent, Melbourne dog breeder Robert Attard, could not be reached for comment at the weekend. But, according to the VCAT report, Mr Attard can choose to apply to amend the permit to increase the number of breeding dogs to 100 once he has proved the facility is capable.
  22. That's so sad and makes me cry, but also reminds how much we owe to the animals (dogs). Thanks for posting.
  23. Well, to me the male creature looks very much photoshopped. ;)
  24. I absolutely believe that adding Fish Oil and Glucosamine makes a difference in comfort for a dog with OA. I also use them both for my arthritic knees, soon after I lower the daily dose of 1500mg Glucosamine, I have trouble bending my knees. Please, someone tell me the best source of Vit E to add to a dogs diet. http://www.purinavets.eu/PDFs/ResearchReport_vol8-issue3.pdf
