  1. Here a photo of our current pack: Adi, and male GWP Struppie - who reared him like a mother. Struppie is battling Lymphoma at present.
  2. Fantastic news for Bison and Ruger. My dog came out of third chemo treatment today still happy, with tail wagging, white cell count was very good. He is on Vincristine IV and Macrolone tablets. Will be watching your posts.
  3. How is your Ruger travelling along?? Best wishes for him! Never thought our Struppie could be sick, till I found his enlarged lymph nodes. Tomorrow, he will brave third chemo therapy for Lymphoma.
  4. How is your Bison going at present?? Sure hope he is faring well. Our older dog, a 7 1/2 year old GWP is into his third week of chemotherapy treatment for lymphoma.
  5. Pointing/stalking, pointing/stalking..................oh,so happy when finding out there was no threat. Lovely, Pointer at it's best!! :)
  6. Love any stylish breed, that prances and dances, especially pointers, most fav the GWP, as they don't seem to be affected by tick paralysis. I will trip over littlies.
  7. I did not look at the date either, thought it was current. Steve, so sorry to hear you lost Buster.
  8. More insight into same news report. So sad for the dog involved, wonder what upset him? Don't think public minds too much about him turning on his owner. At least there seems to be footage taken: RAMPAGING pitbull terrier was twice shot by police before it ran away after attacking its owner at a Clayton pub. ..The canine chaos unfolded in front of stunned patrons, who watched the 24-year-old man run into the Monash Hotel, fleeing his pet after it turned on him in the carpark. The vicious dog chased him into the Dandenong Rd hotel and continued its terrifying attack on him, causing 30 puncture wounds to his legs, back and arms. Police said fearful patrons jumped up on the bar after the unregistered dog tried to bite them too. The dog stormed into the 24-hour pokies venue about 7.30am on Saturday. A police spokeswoman said when officers arrived, the pitbull was also trying to attack staff. She said police used capsicum spray on the dog but it had no effect. "The dog continued toward police in a threatening manner," she said. "A police member then fired two rounds towards the dog, striking it before it ran from police into an industrial area." RSPCA officers caught the dog and treated it for wounds to its legs, before it was put down yesterday. The owner, from Clayton, was taken to Dandenong Hospital. Monash Mayor Stefanie Perri said the attack served as a warning to all owners of dangerous dogs. "It is an absolutely horrific incident and one that will be dealt with seriously and appropriately," Cr Perri said. The council and police are investigating and the owner could face charges. Police are expected to review CCTV footage of the attack. The State Government waged a crackdown on dangerous dogs after four-year-old Ayen Chol was killed by a neighbour's pitbull terrier cross last year.
  9. Poor man, hope his wounds heal well, won't be able to go to work for a while, loss of income, what an unexpected inconvenience.
  10. There are hardly any threads about the APBT in comparison to most threads that go awry on this forum. It's clear that you have an issue with the breed, but if you keep constantly bringing them up, especially in threads like this with no relevance whatsoever you will find you sometimes get responses you aren't happy with. I've never seen anyone be rude to you, only try and explain that your perception is incorrect and based on emotion rather than fact. There are plenty of breeds I don't like and I'd never own. But I wouldn't be so rude as to constantly bring them up and not only attack the dogs but the owners as you now have. You are not joking, are you?? Are you serious, who brought you up??
  11. Great things seem to happen around this forum, sadly, the cult of attacking, and trying to discredit a person they do not even know, seems to be true with the APB fanciers. Such a shame! Excuse my pidgin English, it is only my second language.
  12. I am proud to have named my GWP "Adi", in honour of my dad's colleague Adolf Rosslenbroich, who adopted the dog his stepdaughter had run over and injured, and who later left his estate to a dogs home.
  13. Paid $28.00 for 50g tube of ILIUM NEOCORT at my vets. You can buy (with prescription) cheap 200g tub online in Australia. That's a way to maximise profits for our vets. Lots of people have no access or knowledge of computers.
  14. When I lived at Buderim, our Blue Heeler came down with tick paralysis. I found the tick had buried itself under the skin, at his belly, and was already completely sealed over, only the blueish/grey tinge under skin gave it away.
  15. That's lovely. That reminds me, I had a work colleague, who when single again, in her advanced years, had met up with the lover she had, when young. She planned to move in with him, even had her story featured in a women's magazine. When I enquired how it went, she said, that when she got quite sick, he meant to visit her in hospital, but did not turn up, as he had nowhere to take his dog to, and could not give up his dear faithful dog, as she had expected him to do. I admire this man for his decision. Their love affair was finished after that. Sorry, not wanting to highjack your lovely thread.
  16. I for one, am grateful, to all of you breeders, and appreciate all your hard work, dedication, and worries you had - not to lose those pups. You have huge costs, many of my pups came from imported parents, I would never begrudge what I paid for them. I think to pay $1200 for a pup of quality, is a bargain. My smoking husband pays nearly $100 for a carton of cigarettes, for crap. I think, a lot of those money tight buyers, should get a dog from the pound or animal welfare agencies, they only want all the money in their own pockets. So thank you all, for giving so much happiness.
  17. What a kind soul, hope he gets plenty of food to give to the animals.
  18. Here is an old german photo of my mum, her brother, and their very proud German Shepherd bitch "Britta". Don't know what year it was taken, but mum was born in 1925. I loved to see the 1892 photo of the Pudelpointer, a breed that looks very similar to the Deutsch Drahthaar.
  19. What an interesting topic. Thank you very much for posting.
  20. My last lost love was Strolchie, my 6 year old GWP, who ran away with his brother Struppie into dense bush area. He was missing for one week, he had swam a river, because of cold weather/rain affecting his arthritis, was not able to swim back with his brother, unable to be located. The following morning, I found him drowned, he had tried to come home, but was too weak to climb up a small bank covered with thick bull rushes. My husband had, in his excitement, forgotten to close the farm gate, after a tractor was delivered. I still fret for him. He just loved to pose for me, see photo. I was so proud of my boy, and life was wonderful while I had him. Sadly, other pets I lost over the years: Lumpy-GWP-1 1/2 year old, took with me when horse riding, got killed by car when crossing hwy, my mistake. Merkel-GWP-16 years old, had to be put down because of old age. Raudy-GWP-14 years old, developed heart failure because of tooth decay. Haegar-GWP-6 1/2 years old, was injured by wild boar when pig hunting, pig tusk sliced him open and damaged outside of heart. Clarky-GSP-1 3/4 year old, snake bite when taken hunting. Benjie-grey Kelpie-8 years old, tick paralysis. Bobby-Stumpy Tailed Blue Heeler, 2 years old, distemper.
  21. Definitely gundogs, GSP and GWP. Absolutely adore them. Will have one till the day I die.
  22. German Wirehaired Pointers are clowns, they make you smile, they might try to talk to you/manipulate you with their array of vocal sounds. They are of course gun dogs, are bred to perfection and excel in that field. If you live in the bush, and a gate is left open, they might run away and follow scents. They make top pets/watchdogs, they need a firm hand/good training, they are not lazy, they need lots of exercise. As a bonus, you get a very elegant and charming dog, that loves to prance and show off. We have owned dogs of this breed since the first litter was bred in Australia, and never had one affected by tick paralysis, we find ticks engorged with blood just fall off, shrivel up and die. If you don't like any of the above, stay away from that breed. ;) ;) Anyhow, great thread, love all your piccies.
  23. APBT's come in all colours (except merle and blue) If only the ACO's thought this, we'd have no pitbulls in pounds and thousands would've been saved from BSL! Perhaps they'll add colour to the checklists.... I do shudder to think you feel the BM's you met were absolutely harmless. Though i'm stoked you have a good feel about BM's. Geo, are you on the attack, sounds like it??
  24. These puppies look very much Bull Mastiff to me, with their pale cream coat colouring and lots of black around the muzzle. Two of my friends had BM's, they were extremely friendly, nearly dopey, absolutely harmless. These pups are very pretty. The Pitbulls I have met, were nearly orange in colour, one was orange with tiger stripes, no pale cream colouring there.
