DR, Stuppie was not well one week ago, after I fed him cooked lamb off cuts, must have been the pieces of bone his system could not handle. He looked so miserable, that I thought his time was up, and wanted to dig his grave. After two days, he was getting better, still looking a bit bloated with fluid in his abdomen, side effect from the Macrolone tablets. He had chemo yesterday, and is now on a daily fluid tablet, his lumps on hindlegs have enlarged a little. Seems like he will be around for a little bit longer, he pulls when walking through the paddocks, good sign. His treatment started on the 21.05. 2013. Thanks for asking about him. :D

So sorry to hear you lost your precious Emma. She was happy, and felt safe with you till the end. Hugs from me and the boys.

As a person who grew up with poppy and his horse, I regard a horse as family, so all this wastage truly saddens me. But I tried to help out a bit over the years, settled the old Ex-Racehorse, which I bought as a four year old, then given to my daughter for eventing - in retirement at my place. Then I rescued an arthritic Ex - Racehorse, giving him a life for 6 1/2 years. Also, my daughter and I recently rehomed two horses, donated from the racing industry, purchased them through NSW Thoroughbred Rehoming Trust. My pleasure. :)

The doglets have grown beautifully, already so big. :)

Sorry to hear about worries with your Blacky, k9angel, sure hope there will be some good luck, and she can stay with you a bit longer. This problem with bullying is never ending, your poor son, it's happening in the Aged Care sector, too, where I work.

We did not get much grass at beginning of summer, but it has come up a bit since last substantial rain. What looks so green is kikuyu pasture. :D

Struppie and I visit the vet every Wednesday, to check his white blood cells and size of lumps, he had no chemo last Wed, but will have this week. Poor vet doesn't want to overdo it, neither want the cancer to get out of control. Struppie has grown white hair on his chin, and looks/acts like a 12 year old dog, He was a bit flat on one day only, otherwise he has turned into a gutser, wants to eat any rubbish, even tooth picks, have to watch him (thanks to the Macrolone ). A few weeks ago, I rescued a Kelpie from Broken Hill Pound, and Struppie accepts and is kind to him. Here a photo of Struppie and the new boy Teddy:

Must have been good for the dogs to have a break, and Missy not trying to run away, that's great. Battle on Lucy, you bring a lot of happiness. Very nice photos, Bindo. :)

He loves the South Coast and sleeping inside with the other dogs, and we have not forgotten the Advantix. :)

k9angel, growing up with so much love, these pups will make most perfect companions, they probably want to forget they are dogs at all. Just lovely. :)

If someone visits Wagga Pound, and would not mind to also take a photo of imp.157. the black female Kelpie, the dog and I would be forever grateful. :)

Thanks All, I think he was a working sheepdog, he likes to stalk and point the other dogs, but only the cows and horses when they are behind the fence, as he feels intimidated by their size. He is very small and dainty, and tricks the other dogs by growling, to get his way with food or toys. :laugh: Many more like him, in the pounds out west at the moment. As my mum said to me, with all these wonderful dogs turning up in the pounds, I was worried about getting one particular dog, what for? Yes, the ladies from Riverina Rescue are amazing.

After failing to adopt a dog from DRN, I moved on, realising that I could rescue a dog straight from a pound. So, with the heavenly help of Riverina Rescue ( Nina and Rhonda ) and Karen , my dear pet arrived safely, three weeks ago, in Canberra. Teddy was a stray, must have been scavenging out west for food and water, and had picked up nasties: bush ticks and a gastric/parasitic problem. With veterinary attention, after one week on antibiotics, things were looking up. Two weeks later he had gained weight, looked good and had a shiny coat. Nothing can stop him now, he follows me around everywhere, he seems very loyal. He loves our two dogs, and cheekily sits on top of Adi, and nibbles him without any protest. Getting a dog out of the pound, was the best decision I made, I would always do it again, if I had to. And it is not a hard thing to do, with fantastic assistance on offer, no distance is too far for a rescue. Thanks heaps Nina, Rhonda and Karen! :)

Well Bindo, Struppie was allowed chemo today, the infection has cleared up. Have to bring him in again next Wednesday (first day off work for me every week) to do a bloodtest, then decide about chemo. The lymphnodes are the same size as they were two weeks ago. Struppie is fast asleep at the moment in his bed/livingroom.. :)

With an experience like mine, it would have been a lot easier to turn to reg. breeders again, or the petshop, or the backyard breeder, or a farmer selling working dogs. I even offered them to contact my vet, not interested. I think it was a case of pure arrogance, which is not good for those dogs waiting for a home. There's people out there, trying to get dogs out of pounds, with nowhere to go, because of rescue org's egos. Do dogs get rehomed to people in rented accomodation, if the landlord permits a pet? When people have to move on, often the dog has to find another home, or else. What good is that?

Interesting topic it is. I had a very bad experience with DRN, trying very passionately for three weeks, to adopt their puppy Dallas. I was too honest upfront, that went straight against me, ended with the carer stating that he was adopted, and the admin. stating that he was still for adoption. They deleted my posts on their FB page, where I enquired about him, and blocked me out ever since, I cannot post anymore, or pm them, I became their enemy number one. I offered the pup 120 acres to live on, two GWP's as company, told them I loved the pup, and will keep any animal I take. I just went about this the wrong way, typical me. What are these standover tactics used for?? I wonder how many dogs are still waiting out there for adoption, with people who are wanting them badly, getting knocked around. Sick of all this, I now have done my own rescue, and rehomed a poor stray from Brocken Hill Pound. I am showered with love and his full attention, the pup never leaving my side. He had veterinary attention, and now is gaining weight and full of life again. Bad person that I am, can buy pedigree dogs from breeders, but not good enough to adopt a pup from DRN.

So sorry to hear bad news. I thought your Ruger was doing marvellous, hope you have a long, painfree time together with him.

Hope Kobe is travelling well. Struppie's white blood cells were down, so no chemo last Wednesday, he was given more antibiotics to take home. We hope he can have chemo this Wednesday, don't want the cancer to take off. Otherwise he seems painfree and reasonable happy.
