Yes, see Cleo's rash is looking better than it was, but it is still there and it has spread a little. I am very dubious of vets trying to make me buy something I may not need, and I would rather understand what is causing the problem than just slap some ab's in her and some cream. No point in "curing" temporarily (if indeed it is something other than a contact allergy) it when I can prevent it. It's like when people come into my work wanting to buy a "stop itch" treatment for their dog that doesn't have fleas. EVery time I have asked the question, the dog has been on a food with wheat or heavy in red meat. Cure is stop itch rinse, prevention is switching food. Vets usually want to inject cortisone etc. Stupid me thought Pro Plan Puppy wouldn't have wheat that is the LAST time I don't read ingredients. I just hope I didnt cause this. Hmm my dog's spots spread and worsened a lot before I started him on the cream. I also shaved his body to see the extent of it. It doesn't look like hot spots or mange or anything. He also wasn't scratching. I think some family members have been feeding him table scraps. What's the problem with a diet heavy in red meat? My two have had a red meat-based diet for almost a year now. A stop itch shampoo would have been Aloveen, no? Yes same here, I would rather not have him on any ABs or unwanted chemicals. Might take him just to find out the cause though.

My westie has some mysterious spots too, and I've been using Greenpet's Heal-all cream and washed once with Malaseb. Seems to be healing. Not sure what it is but I'd rather not go to the vet and get ABs and steroid creams if I can help it.

Try these: http://www.boomerangtags.com/collartags.php They don't scratch, last forever and are not expensive. Postage to Australia is $2 and normally takes about 10 days. Now thats a better idea. Not having another dangling dog tag to add to the collection of registration and microchip tag. Thanks for the link. My 2 have these after 5 months they dont have a scratch on them, very happy I love the look of these! Getting a couple :D

Vets All Natural - Perfect Puppy Nutrition

Hmm... my kitten eats a raw diet with whole prey and frankenprey. When she eats whole prey, she generally starts with the feet or the head, and often leaves organs behind. When my dogs eat whole prey, they shake out the stomach and leave the stomach contents uneaten (for me to clean up :/). Plus when I bought VAN to try on my animals, they sniffed it and left it, even when I put more mince than advised. The fermented grains is not a nice smell to them either I s'pose. My westie itched and had red rashes when he was on kibble. This was gone on raw while it returned on VAN. When I feed prey model, their teeth get cleaned with every bite. Mince is more susceptible to bacteria, taurine losses, encourages hoovering, and does not provide a workout for both cats and dogs, and of course, dental benefits are comparable to that of wet food. Also, my dogs and kitten have no problem defecating without unnecessary oats. If cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they derive all their nutrients from meat (+bones+organs) then I see no point in feeding them grains or vegetables. If dogs can survive on a pure vegetarian diet why do we all not feed them vegetables instead of meat? After all, they can thrive on vegetables. My dogs turn their noses up at any form of veggies or fruit, and an itchy dog does not need all that unnecessary sugar when they can get all they need from raw alone without supplements. I would also not give my animals brewer's yeast and kelp, or probiotics when there hasn't been a stomach upset or AB usage prior. -
Do they happen to be the big-eyed pups from Korea? Not sure if I'm allowed to post a photo...

Yes there are white poms but they are very rare. I've seen gumtree ads from registered breeders who do not health test. These people have white in their lines too. I have a few friends with teacup poodles (in Australia) purchased from a pet store. 2kg full grown.
-
This reminds me of a debate I had last week about a girl I know bragging to me about her rare white Pomeranian. It's 14 weeks old and already 4kgs (looks like a japanese spitz X) she believes it won't get any bigger.. She thinks she is going to show and use it as a stud... Needless to say she didn't like what I had to say. At least OP is doing a bit of research for her friend. I wish more people would allow themselves to be educated or be proactive in educating themselves. I saw this 'pomeranian', pure white with light brown eyes and nose. Looks exactly like a J.S. but the owners were claiming he was a pomeranian. Yeah, a pom that's bigger than my westie TBH though, on a trip to Taiwan I have seen MANY dogs that were about half the size (same breed) in Australia. They claim that the dogs there are bred for size, which appears to be true. I do think there are teacup dogs, esp in Asian countries and the US, but so far I've not known of any in Australia. Don't even get me started on how pet friendly Taiwan is... so much for being a conservative Asian country (as compared to Europe). Nekhbet: I don't know about toy poodles but aren't they and malteses about the same size?

That's what a lot of people say, but then my dogs will and can do well on probably any type of food, short term or long. What I want to feed them (good nutrition) is completely different from what they can eat and survive on, which might be table scraps or pedigree. Quality of life (and hopefully length), best food that is right for them and proper nutrition for their species is what I aim to achieve by giving them premium foods.
-
Yeah, BYB poms are huge. A friend's pomeranian weighed only 500gms at 8 weeks, but grew to 4kg full grown. Little greedypants who wouldn't stop eating.

my westie is on a raw diet and still has very yeasty (and red) paws, stomach, underside of tail etc. i left my malaseb in australia so have to reorder it. what does the pyohex do?

i've tried all the meats listed here for my dogs (except deer) and they pretty much refuse to eat all of them except roo.

In mandarin.... (shi zi) Shh sound + (not shee just the first sh sound) zer (to rhyme with kerr) for the beijing accent http://www.zapchinese.com/Chinese-Vocabulary/Animals/Animals.htm go down to lion i'll stick with the anglicised kthx
-
I've never heard anyone say the pinyin 'shi zi' instead of 'shih tzu', Chinese speaker or otherwise. I think the t sound goes with the 2nd syllable and not at the end of the 'shi' (though I've also never ever heard anyone pronounce 'shi' with an 'r' sound). 'tzu' is actually pretty close to how a Beijing native would pronounce the 2nd syllable. I also wouldn't pronounce the lion in mandarin as sher-dds but rather sh-zer with a soft s sound. The 2nd syllable which is similar to 'tsu' without much emphasis on the 'u'. However for the breed I'd never thought to pronounce it anything other than shee-zu. I do draw the line at sheet-zu though.
-
I might be able to answer that. In mandarin corgi is 'ke ji' (kerr gee). Curious how shih tzu is supposed to be pronounced without the t sound?? Also white highland west terrier. In other parts of the world, it's just the Cesar dog (here My dog).
-
I disagree. Whether they are appropriate depends on the dog and its eating 'style'. I feed my 60kg+ great dane chicken wings most nights as he does not gulp and crunches them up. My 7kg dog sometimes chews nicely and sometimes wolfs down wings. Their 'styles' can change, according to hunger or other factors. It's just not worth the risk of choking IMO. Anyway there's not much effort needed in wings, and not too much meat either. Then again I feed raw only. To each his own.
-
I think it's way too small for a Goldie puppy. Maybe a chicken quarter.
-
Once a day is fine for any healthy dog. My dog is 3.5kg and gets fed once a day. Sometimes he gets fed once in 2 days.
-
My bad, I misread and thought you were after training+boarding services.
-
I know Anthea from Craig Murray does it on the Gold Coast. There's also Alan from K9 Centre, but not sure about his methods.
-
My dog was licking his paws and they were red - vet tested it for yeast and it was positive. Recommended malaseb wash and it went away I have tried ACV, not sure about effects as I didn't use it for this purpose but it won't hurt.
