  1. Pup has finished all his vaccinations and is going to Germany soon. Fecal test never happened due to vet deeming it unnecessary as apparently the worming covers Coccidia. Found some pumpkin at a farmers' market which firmed up his stools, then kept him on prey model raw (with occasional yoghurt as he likes it) - thanks for all those who suggested diet changes, but kibble was never an option. Healthy and happy at 5.5kg with one ear up. :) ETA: No puppies here for socialisation, unfortunately. Hundreds of thousands of stray dogs in this city alone though. We do what we can.
  2. Just thought I'd put this here: Jane Anderson breeds Portugese Water Dogs and runs a rawfed kennel in Oz. She owns the Rawfeeding list (prey model raw) on Yahoo and now Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/groups/261761471359/ http://www.facebook.com/groups/225320047573140/ http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/ http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/RawChat/

  4. Thank you! Only three weeks to go for ya Can't wait to see photos :D
  5. Thanks Jules :) I'm getting another Scottish Fold, though I have to travel east to get her in cold February Still waiting for my perfect pup to come along... Kobe looks super cute ETA:
  6. Haven't found my new puppy but I have a new kitten on the way! I think we need a catzonline *lurks*
  7. I've done this a few times for fun. Yeah you had to provide credit card details.
  8. Thanks, am going to GNC to see what they have. He had a sister who was tortured to death while he was 4 weeks old. Is he still considered a singleton? I don't know many people here, much less people with dogs to socialize with. He is also polydactyl, with 6 toes. Is that okay?
  9. He is very cute. It's the thing that makes people love him despite how naughty he's been :D Thanks for the tip about the chewing! I have been told this age is where they are taught bite inhibition by Mum and littermates so I guess I have to be those for now. Yes, he can be vaccinated now but nobody wants to vaccinate a sick puppy. Pity because it's better to go overseas to be adopted asap. Ah no, he's not only having liquids. He's just having lots to prevent dehydration. The milk is very little, just to get him to drink more. It's his favourite thing in the world (even stuck his nose in my ice cream today). He's currently eating only raw chicken. He has had lots of worms in his poop, but the tummy is still huge. Is it safe to worm one week after the first worming, or do we have to wait two? Very informative, thank you. Wouldn't the deworming have settled his GI lining by now? It's been about 6 days since the worming. He's currently eating only raw chicken. Pup was with rescuers for a week, also on raw chicken and had solid poop then. It was only after they tried giving him some canned food and puppy milk that the diarrhoea started. He has some goat yoghurt from time to time but I limit it. Is a fecal test necessary if he's been wormed already? Or should they still check for other nasties? Will get the vet to check for any obstruction. Thank you so much everyone for the input! Much appreciated :) :)
  10. Hello, I have a foster puppy aged approximately 6 weeks old, not vaccinated yet. He has been with me for a week now (wormed on Tues with Milbemax - and subsequently pooped A LOT of roundworms out), and has had diarrhoea the whole time. Belly has been huge from the beginning (hence the worming). I have been giving him goat's milk/chicken broth/ pedialyte for hydration. Should I be giving him some rice to firm up his stools? I would do pumpkin but I can't find any pumpkin in supermarkets here, not sure why. Also not sure if firming up the stool is a good solution in this case. His weight has been increasing, not lethargic (unless after a big meal), and has a great appetite. My next course of action would be to do a fecal, but unfortunately it is apparently a little troublesome in this country/case (pup has to hospitalised, put on a drip to do fecal and blood test as this is the rule of the clinic that the foster organisation works with). Any tips about training and socialisation? He's trying to bite everything he sees.
  11. I lived on the gc and we would drive to animal options at ormeau.nothing else compared. vets there were excellent.
  12. You can find them on facebook too if I'm not mistaken :)
  13. I fed raw in Australia and feed raw now in Singapore. I went from BARF style feeding to prey model (no veg or supplements except fish oil). If you want to stick with BARF style or even kibble, there are many more brands in Singapore than Australia offers. However IMHO you're better off making your own food. Just a heads up that fish or anything in a can = cooked though.
  14. I went to AWL when I wanted a cat and filled in all the paperwork, presumably was given the ok to adopt, and wasn't asked if I was local or not (even though my partner and I don't remotely look or sound Australian). When you adopt out a rescue or foster, all you can do is trust and have faith. Nobody knows for sure if an adopter would be a great dog owner, PR or not. I took two dogs and a cat to Singapore. The thought of leaving them behind in Australia never crossed my mind, and I knew I was going before I got them. People have to understand that most dogs in Singapore are mostly from Australia and Taiwan. BYBs, most probably. Stray/shelter dogs here are usually large mixed-breeds. Pure-breeds from local puppy farms (yes puppy farms with lots of breeds to choose from - not many ethical, registered breeders here) are at least 5k and up due to import fees. Local-born dogs look nothing like the breed standard. Sometimes it's just easier to buy from pet shops rather than from reputable breeders or adopting from shelters. No jumping through hoops, no buttering anyone up, no needing to be assessed. I didn't know anything about dogs before I got my first dog in Australia. I bought the cheapest food, didn't know they needed toys or socialisation or training etc. The learning curve was steep, and I wouldn't have passed any breeder's suitability rankings then, but it doesn't mean I would forever be a bad owner. edited for clarity
  15. not an expert at all, but i'd say sable and foxy.
  16. I have done the puppy shots, 2 if possible instead of 3 (esp for cats), and then titre tested from 1year from last vax. I had to have them vaccinated as we went overseas so that was around 1.5years. No more vaccinations for them from now on.
  17. I wouldn't take her back for the other c5 shot. The first one should provide adequate immunity for at least a year (i use this loosely) since she is not a puppy.
  18. I am aware thanks of prey model raw diet. I asked what foods primarily made up the diet you fed but you never bothered to answer. And part of my post previous was in rely to a post by Espinay2 but the reply got all lumped together. And yes Wolves DO eat vegetable matter, grasses, berries and the like to supplement their diet. They always have done. Didnt you know that? So if you know about a prey model diet then you should know the diet consists of nothing more than meat, bones and organs. What is there to ask? Nope, please support your claims with evidence.
  19. Pretty sure there is just one prey model diet. Doesn't matter what breeds they are, all dogs are the same species and have the same alimentary system. Perhaps you can explain why you disagree? Not trying to pick anything, just interested in hearing what people have to say :) Agree with this. Interesting to note that you say dogs are carnivores and as such should be fed meat, yet you also state that your dogs diets do consist of vegetables, eggs, yoghurt etc. If they were carnivores, meat should make up 100% of their diet. But we all know that even in the wild, wolves and undomesticated dogs also eat vegetable matter. But our dogs are not in the wild. While I do not agree with alot of the additives that pet food companies put in the dog food, it is still a million dollar plus a year business and up to each indiviual person what they should feed. Myself, I prefer to add vegetables, fish and yoghurt etc to their dry food diet. I don't think you understand what prey model raw is. perhaps some googling will do you good? i used to feed homemade barf, but have switched to PMR. or you have gotten espinay2 and i mixed up. where did you get the info that wolves and wild dogs also eat vegetable matter? they are opportunistic hunters, and will eat poo, flowers etc. it is not a significant part of their diet. wolves shake out the stomach content before eating the stomach lining.
  20. Pretty sure there is just one prey model diet. Doesn't matter what breeds they are, all dogs are the same species and have the same alimentary system. Perhaps you can explain why you disagree? Not trying to pick anything, just interested in hearing what people have to say :) Agree with this.
  21. I wouldn't be taking feeding advice from a vet. I feed prey model so bones only make up 10% of the diet. I do not feed dry or commercial foods. BARF and kibble to me has way too much veggies and bones.
  22. Congratulations! Skeeter looks amazing :)
