Please Send Good Thoughts For Mindy
melinda10786 replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Fingers crossed and healing thoughts for Mindy. I hope you're OK Aussielover.. -
My two do it, the youngest more than others.. Its just their way of burning energy.. I tend to encourage that zoomies happen in the yard versus in the house though.
-
Awww.. Barkly He looks like he was having fun somewhere judging by his legs :p

My parents use the vet at Ferny Hills near the shops on Ferny Way, and they are very good.

He's so handsome!! And I love the tongue! My boy (also a cocker) has a thing with his tongue too..

I think its sad when a dog howls because its lonely.. My two only howl when the neighbours' dogs next door ark up when they hear a siren... Four dogs howling at once is a bit full on!!

With regards to weight, it can depend on the dog. My parents' current bullmastiff is 60kgs (his mum was 50kg odd, dad was 75kg), the other male before that was just over 50kgs (not sure on his parents). You do need to watch their weight to ensure they don't get overweight. The puppy teeth will fall out, our vet told us they would remove any residual puppy teeth when our cockers were desexed. But being a large breed the desexing will be later to help with growth, so ask your vet. Otherwise, he's a beautiful boy!! :D I'd never had anything other than a bullmastiff growing up and I am very fond of them. Cockers are my new love, but I will one day have another bullmastiff.

Mine were both chipped by the breeder.. With one we had to transfer the details from the breeder, the other one we were given the original documents. I have had them both scanned at the vet clinic to ensure that they actually had chips, the numbers matched what I had and there was information on them with our details. You can never be too paranoid!!

My two cockers growl/talk at each other when playing, Ivy more so than Monte. Its just her way of encouraging him to play with her and they talk to each other. If we think they're getting a bit full on, we separate them but for the majority of the time, they are just playing and its how they communicate whilst playing. (PS - I would love to see photos :p)

Naww!!! :D So cute!!

What Did You Take Your Pup Home In?
melinda10786 replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion
Monte came home in our laps (half an hour drive), Ivy came home in the crate (3 and a bit hours was a bit much to have her sit in a lap, plus she got to start using the crate straight away!).. An alternative we use when we take her to the vet, is putting her in the laundry basket with a blanket drapped over the top. -
They are so devine!! And the other photos are just brilliant! :D

Circumstances change, you may have the best intentions to start with, but things do happen. My OH and I budgeted everything before we bought our first house, first dog, but we know that if something happens, well it happens and we will work around that. We know the cost of keeping two dogs, but there are things that sometimes are just beyond your control, and you just have to make a decision on what works for you. I would sacrifice if it meant I could keep my dogs.

I had the pleasure of meeting a Pharaoh Hound at our training a couple of weeks ago, just beautiful dog. I had never seen one in real life outside of photos, so it was pretty exciting! I also met the most personable Doberman :D Also I ran into three Leonbergers down at the markets a couple of months ago, my OH has fallen in love with them.. Added onto the list of dogs we may one day own.

Just popping in to see everyone's cute puppies :D Atanquin, Zorro is adorable!! I have two cockers of my own, and you will love having one!!!

We got our first delivery yesterday from Julana Really impressed with the service, and the pups seem to be doing really well on the food. Our food is stored in a big storage bin with a snap lid, it holds roughly 15kgs.
-
I'm on the northern suburbs of Brisbane, and I emailed julana.. Her email address is on the website. Not sure exactly where she is, but I was told the delivery charge is $5 per order.
-
Well I'm impressed. After emailing the supplier near us, she said she would post in the next day.. I was a bit worried when nothing showed up for five days, but I got a very apologetic email saying her son had been quite sick and she had been unable to leave the house to mail the samples. The samples were huge!!! I was really shocked not expecting anything of that size, but excellent customer service from the rep My fussy older puppy seems to have really taken to it, he is a really fussy eater normally with dry food, but seemed to enjoy the black hawk even eating it straight from my hand without having anything on it. The younger puppy will eat anything, but she seems to have really taken to it as well! So might place an order for a smaller bag to start with and if they love it and do well off it, I'll order the bigger bag going forward.

Monte runs away from the vaccum and thinks I'm chasing him with it because he always goes to a room that is next to be done The dry food issue is the same in our house, when I go to brush up all the bits that have made it out of the bowl he will try and steal the food out of the dust pan..
-
Sorry I should have added Monte wasn't walked until two weeks after his final needle so his immunity built up.. But instead I just played fetch with him or just played with his other toys so he was tired for those initial weeks, and also started basic training and getting him used to walking in a collar and lead. One thing that you may find your puppy will love is a treat ball with some dry kibble in it, our dogs love chasing it across the yard, I think more so because it makes noise then it delivers food! Toilet rolls are a love in our house, empty or with paper still attached! Empty water bottles (the mount franklin ones or similar) are also a hit. We've been filling kong treat bones with greek yoghurt and they love it. The three weeks will go so quickly!!

Hi Atanquin, I have two cocker spaniels. We got Monte nine months ago, Ivy is a new addition. When we got Monte I spent a few days at home with him, and over those days whilst it was about settling him in and bonding, I also went out a few times for short periods, so he knew what it was like being on his own. They tend to sleep most of the day anyways, Monte spent his time either in the garage passed out on his bed, or playing with his toys in the garage or yard. We also hid treats in the yard for him to go find throughout the day. The other thing we did with Monte was take him for a walk in the morning, as he didn't seem as concerned when I left to go to work as he was more than exhausted. We've kept that going with having two, because whilst they are company, the exercise is good for everyone and they get to get out of the yard and explore different things. You'll find your new puppy will be fine, its just an adjustment. Cockers love company, so just make sure when you are home that the puppy can be with you. Monte and Ivy just stalk us around the house and yard when we're home, not so much to play but just for the human company. We try not to fuss too much over them when we first get home, so it doesn't overexcite them each time we return. I would love to see photos

melinda10786 replied to Tapua's topic in General Dog Discussion
Darcy, Danny, Dante, Dash, Dijon.. Sorry all I can think of, off the top of my head!! -
My OH and I recently stayed at Jacaranda Cottages at Maleny (10 minutes out of town). http://www.jacarandacottages.com.au/Jacara...es/Welcome.html We stayed at one of the smaller cottages with Monte (cocker spaniel) and he was allowed indoors with us. It is fenced all around, but if he really wanted to he could have gotten underneath the barbed wire, so he was under strict supervision the whole time whilst outside. Lots of room for the dogs to run around, and you can go walking around the area without too many hassles. All the cabins are self contained, just need to bring your own food and toiletries, linen is provided. Highly recommended for someone looking for a lazy weekend somewhere quiet.
