    Woohoo

Gotta love a belligerent pup that looks defiantly at you while whilst pissing all over daddy's pillow Damn sight better than mine! And who's the daddy's boy now, I wonder!
  2. 100% pure aloe vera juice. Do a search here, particularly on Steve's posts for amounts ;)
  3. Were there any other lumps on her body? If so, it makes sense that her face was affected as she'd immediately go to lick/chew on the site that was affected. Last Nov Keg had a reaction in the middle of the night - he had a small red spot on his tummy, and within half an hour he got 20c piece-sized welts all over his body, and his face swelled up. He was very distressed, and a 3am Sunday morning cortizone injection relieved the symptoms. I would have hated for him to have been outside and us not know that this happened, and how it could have developed further without treatment. We never did find out what it was, but the vet suspected a wasp in bed. Could have got any of the 4 of us - 2 humans, 2 doggies. I would have much rather had it than Keg.
  4. Easy...look at the waist next! I gotta say though, I don't quite get the "can't say no" thing when it is just not in the pooch's interest for you to give in. YOU are the one to decide how much they eat - they are no indicator of their hunger at all! Pets in Stone - DON'T give in to those pleading eyes! It is too sad to see a beagle, or any dog for that matter, overweight and unfit. Go to a good puppy preschool and get some good training advice. Depending on how long the poor little guy was in the pet shop, he may not have had enough interaction with his littermates to know what is and isn't acceptable with biting. To a large extent, it is part of play, but he has to know how much is too much - and YOU have to tell him that. Be firm and consistent. More pics please!
  5. Run free Stewie, what a great mate you've been.
  6. Aw crap, BL. They wouldn't have done it if they felt they could have done more. Sometimes you can only do so much. Keep the good memories of him close, he's probably taught your parents heaps. Hopefully another good mate can be by their side soon. Thinking of you and your folks.
  7. We've always fed our boys before we feed ourselves just out of convenience. What we do ensure is that when they are given their food they have to wait a period of time before given the "code word". I think this helps in establishing who their pack leaders are. Given that the school of thought when disciplining a dog must be immediately upon seeing any infringement, and not 2 minutes later, surely a dog isn't going to link the fact it was fed half an hour before you to being dominant over you, let alone any longer time than that? Oh, and it's heaps better if you suck kahlua or baileys through your timtam
  8. Great stuff Angelo, these things can take a little time, but when you've got a new best friend it's all worth it. Can we have some pics please???? Stick around, there's lots of stuff to learn, and I for one would love to hear her progress with you in all your activities.
  9. Create a new thread and I'll give you an enlightened response
  10. Hello kettle, this is the pot - you're black! ;) How to hijack a thread in two easy steps Make a new one LM if you're that concerned - you'll get a little more "exposure" that way . Welcome Angelo, how is your girl going now?
  11. Bets are on as to whether there are some big white dogs out there that are either bored, or boring. The beaglies like cheese, but only if we have colds
  12. I just get mine at the usual supermarket in 2L bottles. Get the unfiltered stuff. Health food stores like Healthy Life usually have it too. Gemibabe, I don't measure it, but maybe a qtr of a cup, half a cup probably would do it for 4L? A good slurp, to use a technical term Taste it, and it shouldn't be too strong otherwise the pups won't drink it readily. If that's their only choice they will though They do get used to it.
  13. Oh geez, I do hope the vet can get to the bottom of this. Sending the best of Darwinian vibes to you, Pampa.
  14. Holy hell pampa, that's scary. You think you're out of the danger zone and then this... The main thing is though she doesn't seem in pain, so that's great.
  15. At the vet I go to, it was $15 for that whilst Indy was under getting desexed. The claw wasn't attached though, so no doubt was easier.
  16. Hmmmm....so the jury's still out on just how dangerous it is. Clearly it is better to err on the side of caution nonetheless. Thanks for the info Pampa and IBite :D Pampa, here's hoping your girl is through the worst of it all.
  17. Don't I know it  And we've got a jungle out the back so I don't know how on earth we'd be able to monitor them during the day, short of keeping them inside.
  18. A question - are the ingredients of rat bait essentially the same worldwide? Is the stuff you're using over there Pampa the same as what's available here? Or are these symptoms the same regardless of the type of bait used? Someone is baiting around our place ATM - we have killed 3 rats ourselves just this week (no bait), but we actually had a rat come into the lounge room 2 days ago convulsing, and we found another dead one on the back lawn. Fortunately the boys just pawed at it (trying to get it to play) and there were no open wounds, but that rat did certainly have visible bruising.
  19. Keg used to do this - and the rocks did slow him down, but only a bit. Over time, he's got much better - he now knows that his food isn't going to get taken away from him or stolen by a faster eater. More than anything, I think it's just a time factor
  20. Oh shit Greytmate, I'm so sorry It's so damn not fair that the kindest thing to do is the hardest thing a person ever has to do. I'm sure you know you've done the right thing for him, but that doesn't make it any easier. I do hope your other pooches can help take the pain away. Thinking of you.
  21. Goldy, I never really measured it, just whacked a splash in with the meals. Steve suggested 100ml a day, but it was all I could do to get them to drink that much. TB: yep, you sure can use the plant - it's what all the products are derived from! I'm not sure how the juice is processed tho, but for the gel, you split one of the fleshy leaves and get the gel that way. If it's being used over a few days or more on the skin, it will turn white fur a bit brownish, but it's not permanent.
  22. DM: make sure it's the 100% stuff (or 99.97%) you can get it from Healthy life and good health stores. The biggest problem you may have is getting pup to drink it - mix it with chicken juice or that dog water stuff and that helps. It won't matter if the gel gets licked off either - just add more. ETA: warning, the stuff isn't cheap, but when your dog is in pain you don't care.
  23. Also try 100% aloe vera gel applied on the sore spots, say 3 times a day. Steve has said skin allergies are linked to the immune system, so that has to be tackled too or the symptoms won't disappear. So...100% aloe vera juice in the diet, twice a day - a good splash. And remove chemicals from the diet - feed just chicken wings for the duration in case it's a food allergy. Do a search on aloe vera juice, there's heaps of info. I swear by it after Keg's tummy allergy went away within about a week of using the aloe juice. Good luck!
  24. Poor Hobbes! Hope the vet took off his watch first
