  1. :D :D Thanks for the iced coffee nasal enema! PF - you are SO MEAN calling Poodle Wrangler Pee Dubbya! She can't help her initials!
  2. Keg got an itchy red tummy rash that we're pretty sure was from the vacc. Most likely due to a reduced immune system post-injection, so we beefed it back up with aloe vera juice, and aloe jel on his tummy. Good excuse to put his picture up with his little singlet on :D I'm sure this helped too, sort of like a light pressure bandage, and it stopped him licking off the jel.
  3. There was a thread done very recently in this forum, do a quick search, bu the general consensus was Aloveen and Squirt from memory.
  4. Well, unless you put the reasons up front in your first posts, don't expect people to assume you know what you're doing. There's definitely a common interest in ensuring the health of the dogs and the prevention of unwanted litters. As I said, unless you're a registered breeder or a showie, or have a specific health related reason NOT to desex, the advice 9 times out of 10 will be to desex. And same goes for "choosing to breed" - if anyone is appearing like they're just going to whack their dogs together because they feel it is their "right" to breed, they're going to get some posts to dissuade them of that path that will range from the softly softly to the slap around the head approaches. :D
  5. As I said, if, by the posts, you can't necessarily know how experienced the owners are, it's best to be conservative and assume they don't know the risks, or have knowledge based on myths and misinformation, just in case someone else might benefit from the information. And of course it's owner's choice, let's hope it's an INFORMED choice
  6. Huh? Another lecture? You've got 4 posts! Did you forget which ID you were using? Another possible solution: belly bands. If you are a genuine newbie, I apologise for my forthright post. Unless people have a genuine reason not to desex, can demonstrate this soundly through their research and are extra vigilant in ensuring their dogs don't get up to mischief and create unwanted litters, then they can get pretty short shrift around here. I can only respond according to what's posted - can't tell from your posts whether you are a seasoned dog owner or a brand spankin newbie. :D
  7. Does that mean you're not planning to desex, or are they show or stud dogs? Otherwise there's no reason not to desex, and plenty of other good reasons to, avoidance of testicular cancer being one. They won't change their personalities either. EFS
  8. Oh I'll have to get some tips from you then, Dogfish! Start with one, see how he goes, then another couple in the next few days and so on. Shouldn't have too many dramas though. Sardines, mackerel, pillies (probably the cheapest way to go!), salmon, tuna - all good. Like everything - moderation is the key. And lots of it
  9. Sorry, just having a snigger that someone called Dogfish needs to ask My guys have a whole tin to themselves once or twice a week as a meal. They love it Or sometimes they get half a tin, plus an egg. I've also made their BARF patties with a couple of tins mixed in too. Minus the tins themselves ;)
  10. ;) I just snorted my drink! Randy looks like a dude - he must be as another Randy was Keg's dad Just one thing - are you ONLY feeding Euk to him? Have a read up on BARF as well (bones and raw foods) - beagles (well, all dogs) LOVE a good bone to chew as well, throw in some chicken wings, eggs, sardines, veggies for variety as well. Cheaper and better
  11. Yep. Could have started any time from the 12 week needles! Make sure you introduce him to other dogs for socialisation too. He shouldn't have any dramas starting with half an hour a day and gradually building up. Got any pics?
  12. I've got three in the freezer now waiting for Thursday's bin day ;) All big ones. Dettol is supposed to work pretty well, but the only way I'm putting 'roid cream on a toad's back is with a 9 iron. The suggestion to use 'roid cream was made by the EX NT RSPCA CEO :p
  13. Ha! The vet's seeing you coming! The vet wants you to use dry food that you buy from them. Stick with what the breeder has suggested and add lots of meaty bones of all descriptions, eggs, sardines, tuna etc. Grains and rice are just filler. Fresh food does not need to be more expensive than dry. Have a read about BARF (bones and raw foods). Can't convince me that the chemicals, grains and meat products that often are not even the first ingredient on the list in dry food is better than fresh, let alone the "perfect diet". Do your research and choose what YOU think is best for your dog. Many threads here :D
  14. We found one of the best ways to settle our guys was to turn the air con up high - they got a bit chilled so they'd curl up to retain body heat and go to sleep. If they're hot they're more likely to move around. Does Judd know the lie down command? Give lots of pats and/or treats to encourage this in the car and a stern "no" to the behaviour you don't want. He'll catch on if you're consistent.
  15. Be aware though that even with recall training, you just can't trust a beagle off lead. EVER. RiverStar:  Just how often does he get out?! You're taking a hell of a lot more of a risk than I ever would.
  16. Stones in the bowl she has to eat around, spread the food around, make it a treasure hunt, use a Kong, meaty bones she had to work at
  17. Try putting the waterbowl a bit higher, so it's sort of at head height
  18. Chicken wings, lamb offcuts - any meat with the bone :p Do a search on BARF (bones and raw foods) in the health section - meaty bones should ideally be the major part of the diet.
  19. A towel dry, and then ensure all the bedroom doors are closed to avoid a wet patch on the pillow :p Post bath zoomies are hilarious! Next time, pick a short haired minimal grooming dog
  20. Yep, I agree, TB. There's no pushing the issue of who's boss in bed - they are  And you'd think a king size would be big enough  Seriously though, Erin, you'll probably have to be extra vigilant with your girls to enforce discipline (not physically, but the who's boss issue). Being beagles they're less likely to really get stuck into each other, but not having two girls, especially of the same age and littermates, I can't say for sure. Good luck! Now, more photos ;)
  21. ;) Your vet would think we're mad then - both our boys sleep with us - hasn't been a peeing incident on the bed since they were teeny pups, and they were forgiven becuase they were teeny pups and it's obviously OUR fault for not taking them out sooner! Although Keg was a defiant wee-er for a bit there I've never had either of our guys pee on their beds (the outside ones or the ones in the car), or chew them. But now that Keg is coming on to being a 2 year old he's decided to pee in Indy's bowl every so often. Blimey, he's accurate! Solution? Take the bowl away
  22. Hi jillandbray, welcome Yep, at 6 weeks your pup should still be with his mum and other littermates - they learn so much in those two weeks to allow them to be good adults. You want your little guy to sleep where you want him to sleep from day 1. If you don't want him in the bedroom when he's older, then don't have him there from the start - it's not fair to get him comfy and then change the goalposts (or the bed, as the case may be). If he is inside with you, you will need to take him outside to the toilet: when he's woken up when he's had a feed when he's had a play when he hasn't had one for a bit. Try to anticipate his signals - nose on the ground, circling. Feed him in your kitchen or outside, no real need to feed him in a box Ask his breeder if they are prepared to keep him until he is at least 8 weeks old, if you are dead set committed to having this little guy. If you are still prepared to look around for a reputable breeder, now is the time EFS
  23. Damn, I was so wanting Pirate Pete to be the turnaround for Paige Even a little miracle dog can't do everything unfortunately. I hope Paige's family know of the support they've been getting here, that we're all touched by the story of Paige and her Pirate Pete aka Jet. RIP liitle one :rainbow:
  24. Yep, George suits him. Curious George even better
  25. Oh bugger. Pirate Pete/Jet will be so good for them all at this time. I only hope she is comfortable. That poor family.
