  1. Could be a grass allergy, Beagle07. Have you got any of that Wandering Jew plant? That's known to be an allergen for some dogs. Try putting some aloe vera jel on his tummy - won't matter if he licks it off.
  2. More socialisation - for both dogs. Perhaps they were both stressed if there was a lot of activity that was threatening to them at this show.
  3. Try Aloveen shampoo, and certified aloe vera juice in his diet - just a splash in his water or in his food daily. Also aloe vera gel on the itchy spots. When Keg had this as a little tacker we also put a little singlet on him to stop him licking off the gel (not that that was a problem), but it also sort of acted like a pressure bandage and he seemed more comfortable. A new vet saw him at the time (one who we since have not seen since) advised changing his diet to the Science Diet ZD - if you compare its ingredients to the normal SD stuff there's bugger all difference. :D I fail to see how MORE chemicals/artificial stuff can help pinpoint an issue.
  4. Not my two But if the neighbour's cat uses our place as its toilet they don't mind :D Cat trap = not cat = no cat poo
  5. I have used it tonight for the first time. It's Cracker Night tonight - when anyone and everyone lets off fireworks. It's supposed to be from 6pm to 11pm tonight only. Last night it had already started. Indy was a shivering sook who HAD to sit on my lap, Keg basically ignored it and Llewie (corgi we're minding temporarily) stands and barks at each bang. I knew tonight was going to be HEAPS worse, so I got some RR at the chemist. Gave each dog one drop each about 4.30pm, and then another at about 7. Indy's had the shivers for a bit, but mostly the boys have been inside sleeping. Every now and then at a particularly big bang they might twitch their ears or lift a head up. I'm sold on the stuff now - I don't think the change particularly in Indy's behaviour is a coincidence at all.
  6. So sorry to hear this, I've missed your posts, TKS. That photo in his little pirate suit - what a great way to remember him You will be missed by many, Gilbert
  7. Aloe vera juice and apple cider vinegar
  8. We taught Indy to speak really easily - we got him to sit, expect a treat, but withheld it, until he gave a little noise in frustration, then treated that. We also goaded him into barking - when he barked back - treat. He got it pretty quickly. The idea for us was that if we could teach him to speak, we could teach him NOT to Yeah right But he's not too bad anyway. We tried the same thing with Keg, and there was just NO WAY he'd do it! He'd just look away in disgust - as if he would lower himself
  9. Oh no. So sorry to hear this, Pappy. Run free, big guy.
  10. I'm with ya, Isa! Freeze treatment for them, then straight in the bin on collection day. Damn I hate it when I've forgotten to clear the freezer out though - there's more toad than food
  11. I've bought it on occasion (and me, a BARF feeder! :D ) if I've run out of the good stuff and can't be arsed mixing up BARF. The boys love it, which makes it tempting to use more frequently :D . We'll use it when we can when we go on our big trip, but htere's only so much we'll be able to carry. Smells ok to me
  12. We've found (and in my previous life living in QLD) that the bigger the toad is the more sedentry it is. They're also fairly docile critters, so can be pretty easy to pick up (not that i like it, but I do it for the dogs' sakes). Maybe we've got dumb ones up here Isa, or they're worn out from the journey from down south!
  13. We have used the "leave it" command for food originally - they have to sit and wait for their code word before they are allowed their food, and if they make a move before that the "leave it" command is used. This also works when out walking and they go to check out something, like rubbish. Cane toads have only come into our yard about 6 weeks ago, so we have used the leave it command with the green tree frogs, with great success. They will still go up to them for a sniff, but they don't attempt to play or mouth them. There's obviously a different smell to GTFs than toads - they're still a bit of a novelty for them, but so far, they have only expressed mild interest in them. Until they exhibit the same behaviour towards toads as they do to GTFs we will be watching them very closely, and disposing of all toads in our sight.
  14. My guys are about 6 months apart in age. We went with our breeder's recommendation that six months between beagles is a good difference. We've honestly found two to be easier than one, as they are either asleep, zooming about entertaining themselves, or mucking around with us.
  15. When Keg had his rash the vet (a younger one at the practice I only saw once) suggested Hills Z/D for allergies. Looking that the ingredients list, I can barely remember a difference in the normal stuff, except for one or two ingredients with names I couldn't pronounce. I find it hard to believe something with artificial stuff in it would make some sort of allergy or immune system issue be more likely to be resolved, than natural products.
  16. I used it when we went on holidays for ease of feeding. Indy will eat anything - Keg was pretty indifferent to it. Yep, a slightly fussy beagle!
  17. A lot of people feel the annual heartworm injection plays havoc with the dog's immune system, as it's a big hit of drug in one go, rather than being spaced out monthly. Many dogs don't seem to suffer any ill-effects, but I'd rather not take the chance. Do a search here, there's been threads about it in the past.
  18. Sentinel Spectrum for me too, no heartworm injection either. NEED at least 2 toys a month at the current rate of destruction
  19. Trust me, emmala, there have been others
  20. We now have a choice of two terms - I'm undecided as to which I prefer. Maybe I'll have to go for willy doodle cheesy goo :D So is the cleaning product for it "Smeg Off"? :D
  21. My old boss used to have a green Mitsubishi Magna. Guess what it was called? :D - Did you spell that right, PF? :D
