  1. Try white vinegar. Sprinkle around, leave on for 5 or 10 minutes then hose. It is too big to hang on the line. I have tried to clean it using bleach and water, smell came back within a couple of days. Will try the vinegar next time.
  2. More reasons for people to stay away from pet shops. http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/nasty-illness-striking-down-pet-shop-puppies-20120716-226j4.html A PUPPY virus outbreak has claimed the lives of at least four pups at Melbourne pet stores. At least one pup has been confirmed dead at pet shop franchisor Pets Paradise while another three puppies from pet chain Passion For Pets are dead from the highly contagious canine parvovirus that causes bloody dysentery. Panic about the virus that attacks the intestinal lining, causing ulcers in puppies has spread over Facebook and animal-lover internet sites. Maroondah City Council confirmed it had put a three-week ban on Pets Paradise in Eastland shopping centre in Ringwood selling puppies and put sick animals in quarantine. There are also reports of sick puppies at Pets Paradise in Fountain Gate, Narre Warren, and Southland, Cheltenham. Passion for Pets at Carrum Downs confirmed it had six puppies of different breeds infected this month, three of which died, and a further two that were sent back to the breeder. Animal advocates have used the outbreak to call on the governmnet to ban the sale of animals through pet shops, which they say are the retail front to inhumane puppy factories. Managing director of Passion for Pets Chris Blackwood said the virus came from a puppy wholesaler. "We were very quick to get on top of it," he said. "It's very rare to see parvo out in society but we vaccinate everything that comes in." Several councils are investigating the cases, some of which link back to a Gippsland breeder that supplies the shops and which animal campaigners have labelled a "filthy puppy factory". Pets Paradise yesterday confirmed a puppy sold at it Southland store last month had died and said the customer had been given a refund. Animal advocates Oscars Law produced medical records that showed nine-week-old cavoodle puppy Harvey died at a Malvern East emergency centre of the virus and that another puppy from the same pet shop pen was also diagnosed. Group founder Debra Tranter showed The Age an email exchange with Pets Paradise business manager Kristy Humphreys in which the company acknowledged other puppies were treated by the South Eastern Animal Hospital. "All the other puppies made a full recovery and are now home enjoying their new families," Ms Humphreys wrote. She wrote that she would visit the Gippsland breeder as a matter of "high importance". City of Casey confirmed it was investigating the Fountain Gate case, "in full co-operation with Pets Paradise". Frankston City mayor Brian Cunial has asked officers to investigate the Southland report. Pets Paradise would not comment on the Fountain Gate or Southland cases. "It is of some concern that such serious allegations are being made without any particulars," lawyer Omar El-Hissi said. "We reserve our right to respond to any specific allegations made once you are in a position to provide details." Senior veterinarian at the Melton Veterinary Clinic David Chang said young puppies and dogs that had not been vaccinated were susceptible. It can live for a year in the environment, including on concrete, making it highly contagious. "In confinement, hygienic conditions aren't ideal with all the defecation and urination and also the stress," he said. He said it cost at least $1500 for Parvovirus treatment. Vaccination costs about $90 a visit. "These dogs have profuse bloody diarrhoea and what kills them is the shock and dehydration." 3. Does the lime get rid of the smell of poop? my yard is concrete as far as the eye can see and there is a big patch of fake grass that joey goes to the toilet on. During summer it gets really stinky even though I pick up the poop every day. Just looking for a solution to the smell.
  4. I found this site http://www.healthyrecipesforpets.com/dog_treat_recipes.html Has tons of recipes on there, haven't tried making any yet. And happy bday to your doggy :)
  5. Sounds like she still hasn't gotten over not getting that last sausage! While I agree with a couple of things in the article (like driving with the dog on your lap and the picking up of poop), this woman needs to shut it and stop complaining! The article doesn't qualify as news in my eyes.
  6. Was going to reply saying that sarge wasn't alone in the back yard, but you beat me to it. $550 dollar fine that's disgusting. And they smuggled the dog off to where no one can find it to boot. They should have gotten a lot worse than that and the dog should be pts, not only has a much loved pet met a horrible end but people have been traumatized and scarred. These people need to be held accountable for what their dog did, instead they get a slap on the wrist.
  7. Red dog and Hachiko should have been included in the list. Haha just found out the name of the movie that scared me as a kid, The Sandlot. All I can remember from it was the dog, scared the crap out of me. edited because i can't spell
  8. That picture, HOLY CRAP! @dandybrush the condom wasn't in the park, it was on the nature strip on the way home!
  9. the poor thing, that would have hurt like hell. I agree with everyone else, wish people would pick up their rubbish. Joey has sometimes found chicken bones when we walk past the picnic tables at the park, don't walk past them anymore. The worst thing he has picked up on walks was a used condom
  10. Try eBay pretty sure I've seen coats up to 70cm on there
  11. Joey has full run of the house when no one is at home, simply because he carries on (howling/crying) if he gets locked outside. He is somewhat behaved (counter surfs ) but normally doesn't break anything. If you don't trust your dog not to destroy anything you could buy baby gates and section off a part of the house that has nothing to be destroyed. Or just put him/her in the laundry/bathroom/room of your choice.
  12. Yep same here, didn't realize Joey had followed me into the garage. I ended up closing him in there. 20 min later I was wondering where he was as he normally sniffs around the kitchen when I'm cooking. Started looking for him and he was no where to be found. Opened the door to the garage and there he was waiting to be let back in.
  13. poor dogs, thank you for the warning, my uncle lives in newport, will pass on the message
  14. I go there too, been going for a while and I think its a pretty good club :D
  15. :) I found out that the eye specialist from All Animal Eye Services in Mt Waverley come to Melbourne Uni vet clinic every Thursday so I got Joey booked in for tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully they can figure out why he keeps getting it!
  16. I only assumed that its Conjunctivitis because its exactly the same as it was before. Eye vet is sounding like a good idea, are there any in west Melbourne?
  17. Thanks for the reply's, haven't taken him to the vet this time because i still have some eye cream/ointment left from last time, so i am just using that. Joey is a whippet (got him from a rescue, so there's no breeder that i can ask about this). Next time I take him to the vet I'll speak to her about it, but she has said in the past that she doesn't know what causes it. If it is an allergy are there any tests that can be done to determine what it is that hes allergic to? Other than his eye begin red and sore he is acting like normal, bringing me his squeaky ball and then running away when i try to take it.
  18. Hi everyone. My dog has Conjunctivitis yet again, think its the third or fourth time he has gotten it (first time was approx 8 months ago), and always in his right eye. Just wanted to know if there are any underlying health issues that could cause Conjunctivitis?
  19. You mention macadamia nuts are a no no, what about other types of nuts, more specifically almonds and walnuts, joey sometimes gets a couple here and there lol
  20. yeah my dogs name has disappeared off the list, perhaps there is a text limit for posts that we have now reached?
  21. Sera, ChixPom died at the age of 13 years 9 months from mitral valve disease, was suppose to take her to the vet that morning because the medication wasn't working anymore but she had died, still miss her and wish i had gotten out of bed earlier so i could have been with her.
  22. Have you ever tried to shop with a 2-3 yr old?? Its the worst thing ever and if I have to give my son something to eat to shut him up in the supermarket ,I will. I am after all paying for it!! Seriously some people ought to mind there own business. I'm sure all the child haters would prefer my toddler to be happily munching on something than screaming the place down. Sheeze, you just can't win. AND don't ask me to bring food from home as the supermarket workers think you may have stolen it . AND don't ask me to feed my child before or after I shop, they are not machines that are programed to eat when you want them too, as much as I would love that!. I would of course prefer not to have a hungry kid with me at all when I shop ( just to keep you happy) but thats impossible. SORRY !!! Coles has an excellent shopping delivery service, order on their website and they deliver to your door for about $10 extra. I hear Woolworths' one is good these days too. I for one plan to do the vaaaaast majority of my shopping this way once I have a kid! I hope for your sake they improve their service by the time you start your family, I have tried both, plus one ( I can't remember their name ) Green Groceries are us? I tried them for about 10 mths. Every 2nd order had several items 'out of stock' or miserable fruit veg. Found I was having to go out to shop anyway to replace them. Though I may have to start to use them again if I'm now being judged for opening a packet of bickies before I pay for them. All to keep the peace in the supermarket! Could always just leave them with the grandparents/aunty/baby sitter on the day you do the shopping, don't have to bring them with you
