Looking For Mello (willow) - Now Found !
Leelaa17 replied to sheree_e4's topic in General Dog Discussion
Im sure you've tried this but ill say it anyway - have u tried contacting vets/pounds in and around sydney? It would be a long process but it might turn up something? even though she is microchipped maybe (for WHATEVER reason) they havent checked her microchip yet? She is absolutely beautiful -
good questions. has the maltese been socialised? Asking only purely because of my experience with maltese they can be funny with other dogs (especially big ones) if they have been properly socialised with big dogs. and x2 on the fact that the little dog needs to be completely confident. If you were to get a bigger dog, don't immediately leave it with the maltese... you would need to train the bigger dog how to act around the little dog and vis versa... again, maltese can be quite stubborn (or at least my boyfriends mum's one is!!!), and if they don't like other dogs, it's very hard to GET THEM to like other dogs. I have tried socialising mia (maltese) SOOOOOO many times, and she has NEVER let up. she just doesn't like other dogs.

They're human tablets for people who get gas. For Danes showing signs of bloat we'd give them 10 down the throat and get to the Vet. wow! thats a lot! they're not poison?

OMG you called them farmers friends. I always called them that but everyone up here calls them cobblers pegs and have never heard of farmers friends. I call them farmers friends too

great news for the husky! not so great news for the vet bill... and in experience, unfortunatey... i doubt you will ever see the staffy owners again. when max got attacked about 6-9months ago, I havent seen the owners of those two dogs since. so hopefully they'll go back to the dog park, but honestly? I doubt it Its a shame about the vet bill. But honestly isn't that the point of this thread- that dog shouldn't be in the dog park so it is a good thing if it doesn't come back??? Yes it may be them avoiding being caught, but it may be them realising their dog in not suitable for the environment and being responsible owners. Oh absolutely completely agree - who knows why they don't come back - just in my experience, a lot of the time, they don't (for whatever reason). I know if max or jen ever hurt another dog I would just give the owners my wallet and apologise over and over again! lol Im the kind of person who, if found $50,000 on the side of the road, I would take it to the police... lol I couldnt keep it because of the guilty... stupid conscience!!!! -

what an incredible person to help you with such love. No matter the debates and arguements everyone gets to on here I think this is such a great community (you wonder why I am on here religiously every day!!!) and everyone really actually CARES, which is hard to come by! I have a 16yo dog that has dementia and he constantly barks at nothing. He is such a beautiful dog but is definitely showing his age. I also might inquire into this herb. Thank you for this thread!

GREAT NEWS GUYS!!! (who would've thought I'd be so excited about poo??? ) I just called dad to see if he had seen any of Jenna's poos this morning and he said he had this is probably the time I shgould tell you guys that my dad is retired and is home all day with the dogs while I work a typical 9 - 5 job... just so you know anyway, he's seen her poos - 1) she DIDNT poo inside last night, yay for Jen! 2) dad said he saw one of her poos this morning and it was MUCH smaller and look like a normal poo, not sloppy!!!! YAYYYY last night she did a poo that was sloppy but this morning she's done two and they are looking MUCH better! I fed her SIGNIFICANTLY less last night and put a little bit of royal canin in (I will do this for about a week until I transfer her solely over to royal canin... or I might just keep mixing them - she seems to enjoy eating the mixed supercoat and royal - plus I have about 15kg left of the puppy supercoat! lol). I am so happy her poos are getting better! clearly it is what we were feeding her, I don't think her stomach liked it very much. And she is now (says dad) currently eating a nice lamb bone! I want to thank you all so very very much for helping me and giving me advice. If I didn't have you guys I don't know what I would've done, I would've either ignored the issue (from sheer ignorance) or taken her to the vet and spent a lot of money getting tests when clearly she just needed a diet change. Thank you all so much.; You don't know how much I appreciate your help. Thank you!!!

yes I think a vet check is looking more and more likely. thanks guys.

haven't read the other responses but I will give you a little bit of insight. I used to work for Insurance Australia Group, which covers NRMA, CGU, buzz insurance, used to be in conjuction with mbf etc etc etc and i will GUARENTEE you... NO insurance group policies are EVER the same... people constantly used to call up and say 'why is yours $100 more expensive when the policies are like for like?' - I used to say 'they aren't like for like' and then the customer would argue with me saying they WERE exactly the same... because they always assumed they knew more about the policies than I did    I know it is gruelling, but read the PDS - its what they are there for - trust me, I know they are boring as all bat shit... but they are very important and explain EVERYTHING you are covered for - there IS a reason aus pet insurance is 9$ more expensive - it just might not be obvious. hope this helps.

And Spitz are fairly clean dogs, their coats drop out most of the dirt that they pick up (Akira can roll in the mud and a few hours later be nice and clean again) and they don't have a doggy smell unless they've rolled in something feral. Should also note so are GSD. I never wash my dogs - unless they have literally been rolling around in mud. The dirt just falls off them and they are once again clean - I think it is quite spectacular... they are like self cleaning... if only everything else in the world was self cleaning, a lot more people would be happy! lol but it does come in handy.

German Shepherd. Simple. lol but again, I am also biased. They LOVE chasing (both my dogs have caught NUMEROUS birds - all minors - and my older boy killed my rabbit..........) - also, I have a furminator brush and brush them about once a week just to get the stray hairs out - they do malt (is that how you spell it) A LOT but a quick vacuum does the job. The are extremely intelligent and VERY VERY loyal.

hahahahahahahaha i love it!!! how cute!!!! -
you know what? If they were my friends I wouldn't even hesitate to make s**t up!!! lol they need to NOT have an animal. for goodness sake. This actually really worries me that they might end up owning a dog. I feel sorry for the bloody dog! It deserves a better home than that!!

On this note - you can tell your friends that if the 3yo isn't gentle enough etc then the dog COULD become fear aggressive, and end up hurting one of the children? I know its a stretch and its not a nice thing to say but surely the people would care whether or not a very large dog could hurt their kids if the kids aren't sensible around it? And I should note I didn't say this based on breed - any breed can become fear aggressive because of kids... MIL's maltese has and she went for my nephews face because she was terrorised by kids when she was younger. Imagine a large dog doing that?

completely agree with the dominant part. and in having a two shepherds - one is extremely independent, the other is the complete opposite... and BOTH of them trust later, if that makes sense. They use caution first, THEN learn to trust someone... neither of them have EVER immediately trusted someone... this could cause problems if your friends have a lot of friends coming and going. shepherds are the same. max has killed COUNTLESS (and I mean so many I cant count) birds, he also killed one of my rabbits. he LOVES the chase and he has gone after a horse before (in which he almost got killed). He is very much a herder, such as all, or at least a lot, of shepherds. also, they are VERY good climbers, jumpers, diggers, destroyers ;) when bored... if they can't give it a lot of attention and/or entertainment then they can assume it is going to rip clothes off the line, dig etc absolutely. I am sorry to say that I am CONSTANTLY teaching max and jenna that I AM BOSS. not them! lol I have gone to trainers and behaviourists etc to learn how to do this and I am getting better but it takes WORK. if they are not willing to WORK with the dog to make it a sensible and happy dog then they SHOUDL NOT HAVE IT. shepherds take WORK... agreed again. please, try everything you can to steer them clear of this kind of dog... I am in serious worry for the poor animal as you said the 3yo is feral... good luck!! I should also say that if they are struggling with money then stay awayyyy from dogs!!!! TBH I got max and jenna without thinking of the financial implications, and even though I always have money readily available just in case, I am not the richest person in the world and have serious money issues! ;) Max has cost me over $1000 in vet bills in his almost 2 years of life... Jenna has cost me almost nothing, atm ;) To give them proper food (as we are talking about in 'jenna's poos' thread lol) MAY cost a s**tload. The dog need toys, leads and collars (which arent necessarily cheap), a bed/kennel, fleaing/worming costs, desexing if they are doing that, yearly shots... plus the unexpected vet bills if the dog gets sick, the anitbiotics that they might need more than 1 dose... there are SO many costs and people like your friends, I assume, have absolutely NO idea how much dogs ACTUALLY cost. ETA: edited to say 'stay away from dogs' not 'stay away from these types of dogs'... all dogs can be expensive

Does that include expecting a completely uneventful trip to the park? Not if that's what you're expecting. I seriously think everyone is a little off the handle today... lol is it a full moon? all the crazies are coming out. I am going to take a bex and have a good lay down LMAO. I am pretty sure it was a full moon last night or the night before. But usually the effects start a few days before and last a few days after hehe. ETA - Just checked Tuesday was Full Moon! well there you go!!! told you!!! lol omg. hahaha so funny. -
Do you mind if I ask what council area you are in tigerjack? For some reason, when I was little, I always thought that we were only allowed to have three dogs... dad and I had two dogs and then when his girlfriend moved in she brought her two dogs with her - so we had four dogs... and for SOOO long I thought we'd get in trouble because I always thought we could have a maximum of three... little random piece of memory for you all. lol
-
Do you let her out after dinner to go to the toilet? From what I can recall, most animals have something called the peristaltic reflex which is why they often defecate very soon after eating. We let our guys toilet immediately after eating and we've never had problems with indoor toileting. Could be worth trying. thank you so much for your advice but we keep the back door open for at least an hour after they're done so they always are able to go outside lol but thank you!
