She is just beautiful!! If you hadn't mentioned she was blind I never would've known. My girl gsd would be hesitant just like Stevie, and she isn't blind! She does a very similar thing to Stevie. She loves chasing the water coming out of the hose! Again, absolutely beautiful!!!

Oh good! I definitely know boys hump boys as max seems to like the boys ;) lol and i know max definitely doesn't like it when he tries to get humped so that's why i keep him away from other dogs if it looks like he's going to hump. i've seen a dog attack another because of humping before and I don't want max to be the cause (or involved) of a fight. thank you everyone for you're replies.

when max tries to hump dogs at the dog park I always mke sure he gets off because I know a lot of owners don't like their dogs being humped. I find it funny because jenna is significantly smaller than max, and she's a girl. she does try to show him he's boss even though everyone knows max is boss.

Ok so I am sitting outside right now and I look up to see my 1yo female german shepherd humping my 2yo male german shepherd (who is mch bigger than her) - i don't know what to think about this? Is it normal? And if it is, can someone explain to me why she is doing this? I think its quite hilarious but im unsure as to what shes trying to do. (they are both desexed)

Affordable Anti-bark Collars Under $100
Leelaa17 replied to dilemmax's topic in General Dog Discussion
It does make perfect sense! I hope I am being realistic about his barking! haha. Look, honestly, he really doesn't bark that much when we're at home, but I don't know how much he barks when we aren't at home. We ask our (other) neighbours if the dogs are bothering them and they always say they barely ever hear them. I do understand that to not-dog lovers the dog barking can be more irritating and I accept that, however we have talked to these people (who we have had several problems with before this, over many different things - not the barking) and they have implied they don't want to hear the dogs at all. They are in bed (most nights, but not on weekends) from about 9.30pm to 8am in the morning as to not disrupt any of our neighbours. when we are at home we are extremely aware of when max barks (jenna barely barks at all) as to not annoy the nieghbours further because I am paranoid they will do something. The minute max barks I am out there telling him to shhh and getting him inside for a 'time out' where he can relax and then go outside after some time. I know it's difficult to control barking when at home but I am quite lucky as i live with my dad and majority of every day, they aren't alone, so they can be controlled. thanks very much for the advice and I will let you know how the shaker can goes! Jenna hates any loud noise so it would work great on her but I'm not sure about max so we will just have to try it out! -
Threatening Behaviour Outsise Dog Park
Leelaa17 replied to Double Lab Love's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think this is a really good idea as well as the flyers. There are 21 people who like the page, that's 21 people who will possibly tell at least one other person, that's 42 people. And then more and more. Good idea. -
Affordable Anti-bark Collars Under $100
Leelaa17 replied to dilemmax's topic in General Dog Discussion
Citronella collars give off a spray of Citronella, which is an oil which is (depending on the research you read) suspected to calm a barking dog or the spray is considered an unpleasant odour and the dog puts two and two together and stops barking (no bark = no spray). A shock collar can be one of two types. One type is controlled by the dog and barking in return gives a shock (sometimes graded) or you can get remote ones that work by the human pressing a button and giving a shock (this one is used not only for barking but other issues) Thanks very much shmoo. I was just talking to my dad about the shaking of a can with some screws and nails etc in it and we are going to give that a try. Sounds like something that we can easily do and we can start straight away. -
Affordable Anti-bark Collars Under $100
Leelaa17 replied to dilemmax's topic in General Dog Discussion
can I just ask, one of my dogs is, what my evil neighbours think, is a 'problem barker', mind you, he barks maybe once a day and maybe two times before 9pm (and I mean like woof woof woof, and then thats it), and then after that he's inside so he doesn't bark at all (my two dogs sleep inside as well)... but what are these bark collars? i thought they gave a little electric shock and I don't know whether I'm comfortable with that? -
How Much Time Does Your Dog/s Spend On Thier Own?
Leelaa17 replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am living with my dad at the moment and he is retired so my dogs are quite lucky and are barely ever alone, however when they are they are quite content. I work a normal 9 to 5 job and when I am home they are always around me, following me, and i'm giving them cuddles, training them to do things (max learnt how to shake in one night and I am very proud of him, while jenna has absolutely no idea how to shake but has learnt 'leave it') and letting them relax and lie near me. on the weekends i spend a lot of time getting them out of the house, taking them to the dog park etc. they are inside/outside dogs and our back door is always open so they can come in and out as they please, and dad is mostly always here so they always have company. As i was saying before, when the dogs are along, they are fine. They have a lot of fun together playing, lounging around, and chasing lizards, minors, and other critters around the backyard (they haven't caught anything thank goodness - there are many good hiding places for critters in the backyard). we also have a wire fence at the back with a horse there so they hang around the back fence on (what we call) 'patrol duty', which is basically waiting for the horse to come around which they thoroughly enjoy. -

How Can Anyone Think Its Right To Hit A Dog!
Leelaa17 replied to whitka's topic in General Dog Discussion
x2 I had an incident recently when a man tried to hit my dog while my dog was trying to play with his, he accused max of 'attacking' his dog. It is never acceptable to hit another persons dog, one of the main reasons being because you don't know how it will react to (a possible stranger) hitting them. -
can i just say whoever has 'rumour' the german shepherd - I absolutely love that name!! What an unusual different name! Very nice!!!

I used to leave my choker chains on my dogs when they were home - I then went to a trainer for my younger dog and he was telling me how the dogs can strangle themselves - I had never heard of it or even imagined something like that could happen... they haven't worn a collar at home since. They wear collars with tags when at dog parks and getting walks, but when at home they don't wear anything... and I sleep better at night knowing I'm not going to come home and see one of my beloved dogs hanging from a fence. That is just a horrifying thought. You say you can't imagine how it could happen - think of choker chains, think of the little circle at each end of the chainn, think of that circle getting caught on a large nail in a fence, or on the top of a wire fence, then think of the dog falling back down and the choker chain tightening. That is how a dog can strangle itself. and if someone looked at my dogs without a collar and assumed they were strays and just kept them... I would be mighty annoyed.

Info About Pet Shops And Puppy Farms?
Leelaa17 replied to mr.mister's topic in General Dog Discussion
hiya mr mister! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppy_mill I typed in 'puppy farms' into google and went to the wikipedia site which is 'puppy mill' - if you scroll down to the bottom you will be hit with a lot of references that the people on wiki have used to cite the site (lol). now I think there are a lot of American references but you may still be able to use some. hope this helps -
soooooooooooooo cute!!!!!!

Fair enough. I wouldn't worry too much about it. And even if you do get a council visit, they may send someone at random times to listen to any noises and if your dogs are in at night and if they are crated when u aren't home then you will be absolutely fine - especially if you shush them when they start barking. If they really aren't problem barkers then you have absolutely nothing to worry about, and from you've said... they aren't problem barkers! something that you could do is contact council and ask a question (don't say someone has made a complaint) just tell them you were simply curious as to what could happen if someone made a complaint... tell them exactly what you told us and im sure council will say you have nothing to worry about.
-
+1 it can be a RE issue if in the rental agreement you have signed to having dogs at the property, and normally on a RA you will have to sign that you will minimise their noise, flea bomb the place when you leave, pick up their droppings etc. did you sign something like that? because if you did then sometimes it can be a RE issue... Although, whoever contacted the RE were contacting the wrong people, they would need to contact council... all the RE can do is come and make you aware of the complaint etc etc.

What Would Be The "right" Thing To Do?
Leelaa17 replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
You say that a lot. All I can say is wait 10 minutes before posting and reread before you do. As a journalist, you know better than anyone how powerful (and misleading) words can be. Your response to someone pointing out that the use of capitals being "yelling" was "bulls**t". You then switched to italics for a healthy dose of sarcasm. That's attitude coming from someone who now admits she didn't know one way or the other about that. Stop taking every post that disagrees with you personally and you'll find it a far less antagonistic place to be. So will I. I will try my best PF. (not sarcasm) -
What Would Be The "right" Thing To Do?
Leelaa17 replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
Have a good look in the mirror before making further statements of that nature please Leela. A lot of folk have given you a lot of good advice since you joined here and what you seem to have given back lately that I've observed is unwarranted attitude. It's becoming rather tiresome. If responses to your frequent requests for information and advice start to dry up in the coming weeks, you won't have to look far to find out why. I've typed and deleted a number of responses to your posts in recent days. Very soon, I think I won't bother to do even that. Your last response is a classic example of what I'm talking about. Even crumbly baby boomer computer users like me know that capitalising words is yelling in forum speak. Google it for yourself. I have never in my life been on a forum so I didnt know that capitals are yelling. read my most recent post. Also, I am extremelt appreciative of everyones advice and the advice that they give me - if you read the recent threads I have created you will see that you will see that I constantly thank the people for their advice. I rarely have an attitude on here, and when I do it is because I am defending myself in the best way I can. And I didn't mean that I was saying everyone on here is rude, I prbably used the wrong words.
