  1. I know it was a lovely weekend! I wish they could go everywhere with me! Even to work! Good advice about keeping their routine the same - i didnt think of doing that. Next time i definitely will.
  2. Lol i know because their dog was going off too! Lol poor bastards. I webt out about 10 times to try to shut them up and we only had two of those muzzle thibgs as well.
  3. Took max and jen to coonabarabran for the long weekend and we all had a great time. There were four dogs there, so six in total - three gsd (including my two), two labs, and a cattle cross. The first night they barked all night, and i mean ALL night. I was up every hour to shut them up. It was crazy. Then the rest of the nights they all barked but not as much. jenna was reasonably good this weekend. she was a bit psycho at first but she got used to it and i had control over her. it was interesting to have six big dogs in your backyard. very much hard work lol. what did you guys do this weekend?
  4. I think thats a lovely story! Sad that hes been getting crap for it though. I would hope that someone would do that for my bubs.
  5. Fantastic news! Please keep us updated and its great to hear the family is caring! Good on them and good on you jay too! Great work!
  6. You know whats funny... when jenna went to get desexed it was like max didnt even notice. Lol i thought he would be really down but he was fine - acted the same as always - but when jen got back, he squeezed himself thru the doggy door - which is for the little dogs - and ran up to her. Apparently he missed her after all. He just didnt show it. Lol And then when my old dogs brother died after 15 long years it was like rashka didnt even notice. But ...... he has dementia so that might have somethibg to do with it.
  7. Hessian bags are great. We have actually put holes in them to make them part of those metal frame dog beds - you know the ones im talking about? They bow really quickly but they are really durable - much more so than that meshy trampoline material and significantly cheaper - i get the massive ones from pet barn for 4$ and they have lasted longer than any other material. You could get one of the mesh bags and stuff an old blanket in it for comfort?
  8. I didnt think we needed to register - just show up and pay the 20$ or whatever it was? Please let me know cause ill need to register! Lol looking forward to seeing you all!
  9. Thanks manda and welcome! What do you guys think? Does anyone want to organise at a different park? Any ideas on other parks that would be convenient to get to for everyone? I dont mind travelling :D
  10. In our council i think they say you should have a warning on your fence if you have a dog with any breed? that way if a person comes in its there own fault because they ignored the sign? Im pretty sure that wouldn't be the case. Police etc must be able to access you in your property.. Well the person i heard that from must be wrong Ive actually heard the same thing dogsrawesome. Lol there must be many wrong people out there lol
  11. Well, you're going to think that I'm taking too much interest in your posts seeing as how this is the second thread of yours I've responded in. Having said that, its not too many threads I do get over animated in or over interested in for that matter, but I do want to put forward my point of view on this because its just not "funny" in some cases. Not in a MILLION years would I put up a sign like the one you mentioned above. Every day of my life, owning the breed that I do, I fight to ensure that any bad perception ANYONE might have of my breed, no matter how small or pissy in anyone elses mind is downplayed. I won't put leather collars with studs or dress them up to look tough like many who own bull breeds like to do (mine has a pink nylon collar and lead) and I won't do anything, ANYTHING at all that would give anyone a negative impression of the breed. Having said that, I see the funny side for other breeds (those that are far removed from the possible ramifications of a BSL) - such as a Chihuahua. And oh, yes, I have a Chihuahua too. Signed, No signs on my fence Im not taking it as you taking a special interest. You can comment on anything you want and that isnt sarcasm And i perfectly agree with the fact that the sign i mentioned above would be completely unacceptable. I never even considered getting that sign because i didnt want me neighbours or anyone else to get the completely wrong impression. In saying this. I think the sign i got is in good fun. I dont think ut gives a bad names to gsd... and if i knew my house you'd know that no one would see the sign unless they were standing 3 feet away from it. Someone would have to walk up my side passage a little before seeing the sign. But this thread was just to see what kind of funny signs people had. I do agree with you about the sign about life after death. I would never in a million years put that on my fence. But it doesnt mean i dont think its funny.
  12. I agree. Max was never ever neglected. Sometimes i felt i paid too much attention to max than jenna! Lol but i always tried to pay them equal attention. I was really worried about that as well. I was so scared max would think he wasnt mt best friend anymore and i was scared my focus would be too much on jen. But it became very quickly apparent that max enjoyed the company of jenna and enjoyed sharing his playtime and training. He clearly never felt left out. You would make sure boonie was never left out - dont worry about that!
  13. I have the same situation. Max was about 15mnths when we got jenna. She used to go to the toilet wherever she wanted but as soon as she started spending more time with max (we kept them separated until jen was about 4 months old) and the DAY she was put outside, she never went to the toilet inside again - ever. And i truly believe that was cuz of max. He held on until he was put outside and she always witnessed this. There was one incident when she did a 2minute long wee in the back of my car - she had been desexed the day before and the entire 36hrs she was there she held on. Lol lucky me She has also learnt some bad habits off max - like being a grazer... but i am proud to say neither of them graze anymore thanks to me training them properly! Lol I would do it this way again because i would prefer them to be reasonably close in age throughout their lives. Thats just me though. I think there are definite pros and cons to getting a pup now.
  14. So so glad to hear shes doing better! Hope ahe has a quick recovery and doesnt have to rest much longer!
  15. Charming. I swear, half of 'dog park' etiquette is people skills. I spend almost as much time in dog parks reading other owners as I do reading dogs. A lot of problems can be avoided by just watching other people and erring on the side of caution. If someone is holding their dog and won't put them down, d'ya think perhaps they are uncomfortable with your dog's proximity and interest? You can think your dog is doing nothing wrong but still call it away. Particularly seeing as the other owner seems nervous. We call our dogs away if they start following anyone around, even if it's dogs and people we know. I call my dogs away if they are chasing another dog and getting that glassy-eyed, ears-forward look about them. My dogs are very well socialised and generally gentle and polite with other dogs, but intense play can so easily go bad, especially with dogs that aren't very close friends. Dogs that are very aroused in play are IMO less likely to heed signals from the other dog that they want to stop. That's where most of our problems have started. I'm a fan of viewing every interaction with another dog as a potential training opportunity. If my dog is saying politely (looking away, ears/tail down, moving away) "Please stop that", then that's my chance to reinforce the polite, non-aggressive communication by making sure the behaviour my dog doesn't like does stop before he feels the need to say it more firmly. Most of the time all I need to do is move him away from the other dog. Well said. No dog, no matter what size it is, should be allowed to harass another dog but PARTICULARLY when it is a large dog harassing a smaller one. Dog parks are dangerous places FULL STOP. But especially for small dogs. They are also dangerous for people sometimes. There have been a couple of serious assaults around this area, presumably in situations described above. If a GSD was chasing my small dog relentlessly then I would do something. I wouldn't expect a mouthful of abuse from the irresponsible owner, or perhaps I would. Noone these days accepts liability for anything it seems. I was chased by a large German Shepherd whilst walking along the road with my tiny dogs. I put my foot out to stop it getting too close to mine who were panicking. Owners were shouting at me to stop kicking their dog - which I wasn't doing. Did they apologise? No. Apparently it was all my fault for walking 3 tiny dogs on lead. Enough said? That is the mentality of far too many people these days. Dogs die in dog parks all the time - I've heard of several cases in the last few months in this area. Don't take your small dog into places that are high risk, ie dog parks. I dont think its fair at all to call me an irresponsible owner. I gavent been to a dog park in a long time because of my aggressive young gsd. And i have learnt a lot of good things and taken on good advice since being an active member of dolforms. I might have done things differently back when that situation occured and i DEFINITELY wouldve done it differently given my time again - but i tried my best at all times to try to make sure people understood what max was trying to do etc... i would never have called myself irresponsible. Maybe misinformed. But i always took responsibility for my dogs actions and i always will.
  16. I agree with this. There are many deaf dogs living great lives - but it takes a lot of commitment from the owner. The thing I'd worry about most is recall (but it can be trained). Sure the dog can read hand signals, but they need to be looking at you to see them. If they're focusing on the new dog that has just come into the park, that can be hard! I find it odd that some people say it shouldn't be taken into account when looking for a dog?? I meant in the sense that when you are looking for a dog and then someone says 'oh they're deaf' dont just go - oh ok don't want it then. That's what I meant. Not necessarily that it shouldnt be considered but that it shouldn;t be the deciding factor (unless it wont fit into your lifestyle or unless you dont have the means to care for it properly). And also the comment about a deaf dog "not fitting into your lifestyle". Also just a nonsense thing to say. You dont get a dog for lifestyle reasons in my humble opinion. YES, you did nail the comment about not getting a deaf dog if you dont have the means to look after it. They are a lot of work and there are a lot of issues that need to be considered Well in MY 'humble' opinion, you should either get a dog that fits into your lifestyle OR you get a dog and change your lifestyle to fit the dog. And on your previous post, i am speaking from what i have heard and previous experience with very OLD deaf dogs. I have stated that i am not a breeder or expert at all so you can refrain from calling my comments dumb please. I am expressing my very un-profesional OPINION and it would be nice to come onto these posts and LEARN from other peoples comments. All i have learnt from your comments are that you are quick to call peoples comments dumb. So thank you for enlightening me.
  17. Exactly what i was going to say! What a fantastic idea. And i would start at 15 - 20$ then work way up for larger sizes! Good luck and if u start selling them tell us ur details so we can help by buying some!
  18. So sorry. How incredibly sad. Again - like everyone else, i hope you, kids, oh and everyone else involved is ok - or atleast coping. :nahnah:
  19. Rest in peace poochie pie! Hopefully you have met my passed pets rossco, napoleon, bunny and pepper and you are running freely with them. Bunny - the most recent pass away, i miss you every day and a piece of me died when you did. I will love you forever and will see you again one day.
  20. Good luck! Hope everything turns out ok!
  21. I was mad about it too (and she wanted to prove to me she wasn't irresponsible!) I really wanted to take him, the brown eyes and floppy ears made it that much harder. But with a dog fresh from surgery about to be in the car having to stay calm as well as our other dog and a 6 hour drive home I just couldn't have coped with it. Just had to tell myself he's back where he started and hope she keeps him safe. I did think about him all the way home though, wondering if he'd be ok and what would have happened if I took him. At least he got returned home I guess but I do wish I could have taken him. Then I'd be here stressing over finding him a good home! I know. I cant imagine how hard it wouldve been for you. Maybe later on down the track u can go past and see if you can see the pup... or not because if something happened to it u would be wracked with guilt even though none of it was your fault. Its people like her that need to not have dogs. Ps. I hope ur bub is ok!!
  22. That poor little thing! I dont blame u for not taking - i thinku did what u thought was best... but... i wouldnt have left that poor little thing wit that stupid effing woman. Clearly she didnt care what happened to it. Actually makes me really angry (not u - her!)
