  1. about a year ago I met a..... wait for it.......... Great Dane X beagle.... I could not believe my eyes - it was not as big as a great dane but extremely large anyway. It didn't have beagle colours but you could just tell there was something off about him. I asked owners and they said he's crossed with a beagle - beautiful dog but couldn't believe it!!!
  2. That's fine Julzjc - I'll make sure I keep them regular! And it most certainly is off lead and the park is on a big hill. It's reasonably big - not MASSIVE though. I have to say Max is quite good with recall in the dog parks - not all the time in other places though! Like the backyard!!!! We have a horse up the back that stands there on the other side of the fence and stares at the dogs - they go nuts. I go up there and tell them to come with me - they stop barking but ignore me still! lol
  3. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT MAX DOES!!! omg!! thank God I'm not alone1 HOW BIZARRE!!! LOLOL
  4. Lol. so this is normal behaviour then? It's just I have always had male dogs and never seen this? No - not necessarily. I just didn't have any other advice I could give you, sorry. My boy doesn't do these things .... unless he keeps it for more private times when I'm not around lol. Mind you, the end of my boy's 'bit' looks a bit odd to me and so I'm going to be up for asking my own embarrassing question of the Vet in the not too distant future. I hunted around for a picture of a normal dog's penis and I'm embarrassed with some of the sites my computer data base would now have a history of me looking at. Some were completely NOT what I was looking for!! HAHAH I can imagine!! you poor thing!! It is quite hilarious actually - the first time I saw it my OH was sitting with me and because Max was looking directly at me, said some things I would like to NOT imagine! lol and, dare I ask......... but what does it look like?? HAHAH I know that's weird to ask but I am curious now!!! I've seen max's red rocket enough to know what it looks like so maybe we could compare???  :D :D
  5. Welcome!! And the dog would be fine! I am away almost 12 hours a day sometimes!! - HOWEVER, there is always someone home cause my dad is retired! Have you had a dog before?
  6. Thanks very much persephone. He is quite prone to things that need him vet checked! Like corking his leg, getting kennel cough from the dog park, cutting his leg and then it getting infected, getting attacked. I've spent more money on him than I have spent on me in the last year!! Lucky he is all worth it! It doesnt seem to irritate him and it isn't something that happens every day - maybe every four days? But I will still take him to the vet just to be safe! Thanks for the advice.
  7. The first time I saw it I almost had a heart attack. I was sitting on the couch and I heard someone breathing reall heavily - I looked around and ended up looking at Max. He was lying down with his head still up, eyes closed, and breathing really heavily - but not panting. Then I moved my computer to the side and saw his red rocket all the way out. I actually thought something was wrong with him but my dad laughed so I just left it. But it keeps happening! lol
  8. Lol. so this is normal behaviour then? It's just I have always had male dogs and never seen this?
  9. This has been happening for the last week or two. Max will sit and lick and what likes like - bite - his willy. His back leg will shake slowly and then his red rocket pops out and will sit out for a while. And when I say pops out - it comes entirely out. He hasn't been doing anything reasonably exciting. I do have a female but she is desexed and is 8 months old. I've never seen this happen before and was wondering whether this behaviour is normal? He is desexed and is 1y and 9mths old. Please help.
  10. and loves puppies!! hes really gentle!
  11. thats fine. Ill only be bringing one of my gsd because the other one isnt good with other dogs for some bizarre reason - i am taking her to steve from k9 pro tomorrow so am looking forward to getting her over her aggression. so itll just be max and he is extremely friendly!
  12. of course not!!!!! that would be great!!!
  13. It is not my intention to put values on other people at all. Most of my conversations on here are disagreements because my values are apparently very different to those on here - which is fine. i happily and respectfully disagree with a lot of comments on here but i am certainly not trying to put my values on other people. I also am, respectfully, not a smart a** about it either! I normally just stop replying in these threads because i have tried to get my opinion across and that is all i can do. In my opinion, a dog should not be left in a car with all the windows up at any time of the year. And i respect that others have a very different view from me.
  14. me. there have been cases that animals have died and even children have died by being left in a car with the windows up. it doesnt matter if a dog is in distress or not - appropriate action needs to be taken to make sure the dogs dont get into a situation where they are distressed.
  15. not at all. but it doesnt matter. its irresponsible and shouldnt be done.
  16. that's exactly right. I mean it wasn't that hot - but even when its freezing i leave all the windows down. I just couldnt live with myself if something happened. I'm the kind of person who would smash a window to get a dog (or baby) out of the car if they seemed to be at ALL i distress.
  17. Is he an outside dog? Could you keep him inside for the day and night and get stuff tomorrow? Keeping him inside will HOPEFULLY at least keep the grass fleas away from him. On the sore spots you can use vaseline, bepanthen, sorbalene to sooth the spots. Good luck!
  18. This is what puts me off coming - dogs who should not be there. Surely if you know she does not like strange dogs then its better for her not to be put into the situation which will cause her anxiety/ stress? I understand completely and she wont be coming unless Steve from k9 pro says she can. I am seeing him on Wed about Jenna and her behaviour and hopefully she will be ok to go to Million Paws Walk - she will NOT be going unless I have approval from k9. I have a Sydney meet happening this weekend and she wont be coming to that - only Max.
  19. Awesome - that's the one I normally go to See you guys next Saturday around lunch time??
  20. OH and I were driving back from Coonabarabran to Sydney today with the dogs and stopped by in Dunedoo - now it was reasonably warm there - not too hot - there was a nice breeze. I was walking into a cafe and saw a woman sitting in here car with a swf in the back. Thought nothing of it at the time. When I came back out I saw the dog was in the back seat, with all the windows up - alone in the car. Sorry, one window was down LITERALLY about a cm or two. I was so furious and stood there and looked around for the woman I saw - couldn't see her anywhere. In saying this - max and jenna were sitting in the back of my car with ALL windows down about a third of the way, JUST enough for their heads to pop out but no more. I checked on them about five times while we waited for our food because I was paranoid it was too warm, I was also paranoid they'd get fed by some of the kids hanging around etc etc. I THOUGHT the woman who owned the car and dog was in the cafe with us and was waiting for her food as well - I wrote a note to stick on the car saying she was being irresponsible and even though it didnt SEEM hot to us (humans) - dogs could die in the heat of a car. I then went out to put it on the car and it was gone. I was SOOOO p***ed off she left because I was ready to go off. :mad  :D
  21. I know this? As I have said more than once on this thread - this is a thread about funny signs people have - whether they are up or not? Do you honestly think that people on here think a sign will protect someone? I mean, HOPEFULLY, it might deter someone if they see 'beware of dog' etc etc etc... but seriously. We're not idiots.
  22. Max as a puppy killed one of my rabbits. My rabbit was reasonably young - not a year old yet and very quiet - my other rabbit bunny was a psycho and would bite and scratched anyone or anything that came near him - God bless him (RIP). In bunnys life he had been caught by max twice (once, bunny got out of the cage - the other time max got in - dont ask how - im STILL stumped). Bunny passed away from the unknown causes a few months back - he was a tough rabbit but had to put him down which was the hardest thing ive ever done in my life. One night I came home and went outside to check on the rabbits - pepper was lying on the floor next to the hutch - he wasn't necessarily ripped apart - but lets just say I will never get the horrific image out of my head. I screamed my lungs out and cried for hours - I couldn't look at Max the same way, OH went crazy but I told him not to bother because Max would have no idea what was going on. It only took me a day to forgive max - all along I knew it wasn't his fault - he didnt EAT pepper (the rabbit) he was simply trying to play - and in the process, pepper died and max got bored and left him alone. Don't blame your dog - I know, i KNOW it is hard to look at him right now but you already know (because you said so) that it wasn't his fault. He is EXACTLY the same dog as he was this morning. I am so sorry for your step-daughter. It is an extremely hard thing to go through - as I truly believe that even rabbits and GP's are part of the family (they were to me). I hope everything is ok. And I wouldn't worry about the cats - but I WOULD keep the supervised - dogs and cats and dogs and rabbits etc etc should always be supervised, I think. Hope you and family are ok.
  23. Im sorry - I can't give you any advice but I can give you my best wishes - I hope Ollie is ok!!
