  1. I agree :D being focused on you as the master is a WONDERFUL thing!!! Getting your dog to focus on the trainer is one of the hardest things to do and your dog just loves you All you need to do is to make her understand what you want her to do When she gets it, she'll be great at anything!
  2. This recipe off the internet is something my big dogs absolutely loves. My maltese is not food oriented but she loves eating some too. Homemade Dog Treat Recipe Bacon Bits for Dogs 6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled 4 eggs, well beaten 1/8 cup bacon fat 1 cup water 1/2 cup non-fat dry milk powder 2 cup graham flour 2 cup wheat germ 1/2 cup cornmeal Mix ingredients with a strong spoon; drop heaping tablespoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet. Bake in a 350 oven for 15 minutes. Turn off oven and leave cookies on baking sheet in the oven overnight to dry out. Yield: about 4 dozen dog cookies. Hope your dog appreciates this too :D
  3. Just with any unwanted aggressive behavior, easing slowly into the change is important. It takes time and effort on both parts but when your dog realizes that not everybody is out to get his food/toys, he will be less aggressive. I would suggest clicker training. Give rewards when he is not aggressive. Get a trainer if you have to. Good luck!!!
  4. Great job with this!!! Whistle recall is a good way to teach your dog basic commands as well like sit and stay. But COMING WHEN CALLED is something more difficult especially when dogs love to play and run around. You must have the ability to recall your dog, no matter what the situation or other temptations. Great job!!! :D
  5. Wonderful idea! It is also fun reading what other dog/owners are accomplishing (or not accomplishing) lol My maltese and I are working on several tricks like dancing and taking a bow. I want her to do a mini-performance come Christmas time. Wish us luck!!!
  6. First of all, that is one amazing dog! :D Second, there are a lot of training methods you can use to train your dog successfully. You don't have to attend actual classes as everything may be taught using the internet and through videos. Clicker training method is a simple and effective way to train your dog and puppy. It uses positive reinforcement methods to get good behavior from your dog/s. It's fairly easy and since you already have a dog who is excited about treats, then clicker training is the best training method for you. Let's hope your puppy likes treats as well. If you do find a treat they absolutely adore, use those exclusively for training to keep them excited
  7. Nothing worse then having the new turf burnt. Your lawn is getting burnt because of the excess nitrogen in the urine. A few things that can help out are: 1. Add some more vegetables into your dogs meal. 2. Try using better quality dog food. If you're using cheaper dog food, it contains cheaper sources of protein in it, which can increase the amount of nitrogen because the food is bypassed within your dog.
  8. Here is a few things you could try: 1. You could get your dog neutered. I read somewhere that neutering can stop marking by as much as 90%. 2. Try to distract your dog when he is about to mark. You can use a shaker to do this. 3. Clean the area he is marking. Don't use ingredients that have ammonia or vinegar in them as the smell of these can be similar to the urine, and may encourage it. Hope that helps
  9. The best age to spay a puppy is before their first heat cycle. This is around 5th to 6th month. Spaying before the first heat cycle will also help you avoid the bleeding that accompanies a female's heat cycle. Price would depend on where you bring your puppy for the procedure - anywhere from $200-$400 is a good estimation. Good luck!
  10. Regular bathing helps a lot. Using Nizoral shampoo dissolved in a small amount of water at least once a week helped when my dog had dandruff. She used to scratch a lot but after treating her with that shampoo, she's fine now. Hope this helps!
  11. Karo syrup works the best. Rub the syrup on the gums and under the tongue if your pet is unconscious. If your pet is conscious and can swallow you can give the sugar with a needleless syringe. If your puppy is wobbly, try giving food or treats he loves.
  12. My maltese is definitely afraid of thunder and any loud noises (like fireworks, etc.). During the rainy season, especially at night, we keep the television open on a loud volume to somewhat muffle the sound. Oh and she's scared of the sudden light that shows up in a dark room too so we keep one light open for her. Seems to work, she sleeps after a while.
  13. Have you heard about: Dog Twister dog puzzle game? It's available online and I think it would be perfect for your dog who is food motivated. It's a thinking game where dogs need to figure out how to open compartments that have treats inside them. It will keep your dog busy, thinking, and full. :D
  14. If your dog has already mastered certain commands do interval praises
  15. why do you think she cries? - I would suggest turning on the radio
  16. If you decide you don't like this behavior to remain with your dog forever, you must commit to stop it. Be stern and consistent. Every time she does it, shake a can w/coins/rocks or sprit-spray her with water - say "no" -- but you have to do it every time. Good luck!
  17. Yes teaching commands one at a time is the key. When your dog has mastered one, move to the next :D Good luck!!!
  18. puppy pads are good worked for me when my dog was a puppy :D good luck!
  19. - Only use her favorite treats for training. If she's not into treats, use her favorite toy/s for training ONLY. If she's not into play and toys. Find what she loves and use that for training only. - Do training before meals so she's hungry (for treat rewards) - incorporate play into training. Good luck!
  20. awww... it's probably allergies. Your dog is itching, poor thing. You need to find out where your dog is allergic to and get it away from him ASAP.
  21. my dog is turning 11years and still hates to bathe. She was worse when she was younger though. Some dogs just hate water... but it gets better over time I give mine a treat after the bath and praise her unendingly after. :D
  22. Aside from fixing the lawn, you have to keep your dog from digging again. He has found something he loves to do... he needs to understand that it is wrong http://www.goldenretrievertrainingonline.c...-dog-is-digging
