  1. Awww, very cute- was he trying to tell you something?
  2. Awww, my last puppy was a big thing too- they are no less cute! This time around I'm getting a little wee slug though Is that a Malinois? Very beautiful colouring, will he/ she stay that dark?
  3. My sister sends her dog to a place in Austral Park, and he is well loved there. She never had a problem with leaving him there, I can't think of their name but they are associated with Renbury Animal Shelter from memory
  4. You remind me of my friends old German shorthaired pointer. Her tail used to clear the coffee table and leave brusies on your calves!! Admittenly she was poorly trained and a hazard indoors until age slowed her down. I was pleasantly suprised that my boy does not wack/ sweep with his tail, but he seems to hold it very high so it is not so whippy, more like being hit with half a hoola hoop
  5. Some folks think that SA='olden days' Make that the NT too!
  6. Well you can get blue rinses for white animals which make them have a sheen, but I think you're not really looking for a cosmetic solution. As he is an older dog, the quality of his coat is maybe not going to be as good as a younger one. I don't wash my Dobe much because I find the oils in his coat make him more shiny than when he is clean, I just rub him with a polishing mit unless he is really smelly!
  7. IMO Vets don't learn much about nutrition apart from what dog food reps give them at Uni. If you think he is healthy enough otherwise don't worry about it ! Being lean is a good thing, especially at that age large breeds should not be rolling fat anyway. He might just be in the lanky phase and he'll become more solid when he gets older. My Dobe is 18 months and is just starting to put on muscle mass now that he is not getting any taller. I have to say the diet does sound like it could be improved upon, I reakon cut out the pet loaf and milk and spend that money on raw meaty bones instead, it will keep his teeth clean and his brain occupied (and out of trouble) for a while. How is spuds poos? Does he ever have runny ones?
  8. I have sort of resorted to this method of dealing with my brother in law who bred his dogs for no other reason than to see if they could. I haven't really spoken to him in months because I knew I wouldn't be able to keep my opinions to myself if he brought up the subject of his dogs and the puppies so rather than get into a fight with him about it I've just stayed silent on the issue- if he is more intelligent than I give him credit for he might realise that when we stopped seeing him was at the same time he told us his dogs were having puppies, but if not I'm not going to bring it up, especially when its family and you have to keep the peace.
  9. What a pretty baby! What does your boy think of her?
  10. There are heaps of Dobe breeders sending to NZ to whelp, just have a look at the puppy pages on dol. I have no idea what you have to pay for these puppies, but it annoys me that you have to compete against these dogs and as far as I know the standard hasn't been amended to include the standards for an undocked tail. They don't allow dobes with cropped ears to compete in the ring so I don't get why the imported dogs with docked tails are allowed to. Yes I have major sour grapes with this
  11. I'm in the same situation as you (waiting on a puppy) and I'm planning on dividing the yard in two so they can see each other but not play together unless someones watching.
  12. That makes me feel better, I thought it was expensive in Alice Springs @ $60 or there abouts.
  13. We took rogue the other day and he loved it, once he got used to the waves coming in lol he was funny :-) we had him on a long leash and he loved the freedom :-) lol Dobesrock Did Simi and Rogue do the air swimming when you pick them up out of the water? I remember having a good old laugh when my JR would do that. My poor puppy Sniper went to the beach in January (we live in central Australia) and he just headed out to sea! Lucky I had him on a long rope and could reel him back in
  14. Here are my two little slugs, at 2 weeks Out of the two brown puppies, the girl is the one her back chucking a spread incase you couldn't see, she is a giant  The little black girl is only a week old in her photo
  15. Aww Bones, you are so cute, IggyLover- I will be waiting to see photos! I bet you are at level 10 excitement, I know I will be in about 6 weeks time :D
  16. How exciting for you! Put a picture up on the getting a puppy thread pleeeease! I'm not in Perth, but I hear TrackWest is a great club, one of my dogs siblings is over your way and they go tracking with that club. Tracking is heaps of fun and its never too early to start a puppy- I used to make my puppy do small tracks for his dinner a couple of times a week and he loved it. I would say I found it very hard to learn how to read a dogs tracking behaviour from a book (I am in remote NT and no one else tracked here when I started), its much easier when someone experienced can tell you if your dogs faffing around or really tracking, but the theory certainly helps you work out what you need to start off with.
  17. The girls are the pink (Brown) red (Brown) and purple (Black) tags
  18. BABIES HAVE ARRIVED 3 girls in the litter!!!!!!! Now I know I can get very very excited! Photos to come Its a repeat mating, this will be the third litter and the puppies in the last two litters were predominately brown boys and there have only been 3 girls in total; 2 in the first litter and 1 in the second. Hopefully its not zero in the third, I'm trying not to think about names or otherwise get excited
  19. Trinity- Dobermann, died from snake bite 6 years old Brutus- Rottie, PTS at 9 years because of cancer Rusty- Pet shop puppy JR x , died in his sleep at 15 1/2 years
  20. Aww bliss! Iggy lover and unuscornu I am so jealous- I want a little puppy! 8 days until I find out if there were any girls in the litter I am waiting for.............. BTW Love the hair unuscornu , how much work is that? Iggy and Mini BT are two breeds that I have never seen as a puppy and all I can say is
  21. Groendal, Malinois, Weimeranners, Shiba Inu, a pug for my son but I love my Dobe :D
  22. I think that's one hell of a generalisation. Well I'm geting pretty pesimistic about the whole thing now after living with them for 2 years. I try not to generalise but you have to look pretty hard for someone who bucks the trend.
  23. ...and why don't the council or RSPCA do the right thing and use a firearm to end that suffering right now? Allowing this suffering to go on, once it is known, THAT is cruel, in my book. I'm wondering why they are very quiet about cruelty in aboriginal communities, perhaps trying to be PC? I'm sure they don't have many resources here, but when I see what makes it to the RSPCA show on television... I just think what happens in the NT goes way above and beyond
  24. Yes I tend to agree - why let this poor animals suffer? The men in the community are going through "mens business" and don't want to get their hands dirty basically, because dogs are a spiritual animal. Far better for their conscience . Remarkably the dog is appearing to be healing, although its not pretty, but its on the list of dogs to be destroyed along with six other dogs someone decided to leave behind when they moved camps.
