  2. I have no idea what any of you are talking about but it sounds interesting? anyone want to explain? Sam
  3. myszka - I think we have a deal! -I have a very "soft" dog, so getting the training just right is sometimes difficult. Sam
  4. K9 Force - too bad you are not in Germany! I think I would really benefit from attending one of your seminars. Sam
  5. very helpful information. I notice my dog is starting to really slow down the commands he knows. I give the command..he will look at me for a minute .. then very slowly sit... Sam
  6. ninaandted - you are doing a great job I have a pretty nervous dog and have to work really hard all the time with him! One week he is fine with the vacuum, the next he thinks it is going to kill him... two steps forward, one step back. -My husband is having trouble following the "rules" too.. Instead of ignoring Patches when he gets nervous he will try to "comfort" him.. (pats, and stuff)... Ugh! I have to keep reminding him that he's actually rewarding the dogs nervous behavior.. We are getting there though.. Hang on for a bumpy ride! Sam
  7. Lou Castle, The reasons you describe as to why people don't like the collars are so true! But I think those reasons could be described to so many more scenarios. BSL for one. Sam

  9. To graduate from puppy kindergarten I have to teach Patches a trick. I think I will try this one. Thanks! Samantha
  10. This is what my trainer taught me.. when my dog barks I say Speak! , then I tell him good speak! -When he barks and I want him to be quiet, I say quiet twice if he doesn't stop I spray Binaca into his mouth. --it is not harmful and something people use in their mouth for bad breath anyway. !! I have done this three times and Patches is already getting that Speak means he can bark and Quiet means no bark.
  11. hard to explain: I have heard people say, My dog is being stubborn. Or my dog is being spiteful because he peed on the floor. chewed up his toy etc. -In my opinion a dog cannot be "spiteful" he is simply a dog. If he's doing something wrong it is because you have not trained him to do it right.. not because he is evil, or spiteful. -maybe others think differently. but I think sometimes people need to think like a dog, not assume their dogs are "thinking" like a human. *not sure if any of this makes sense.
