Well I'm thinking of widening my search for a trainer. I think what you are saying makes sense to me Hankdog. I need someone who is very experienced but also a bit unfazed or unflappable as well. Like there are lots of normal trainers that do great work with non-reactive dogs but truly would be very out of their depth with Stella I feel. So I'm going to keep searching. -

Snook, I have always found it so surprising just how dogs rebound off a bad experience at times. They tend not to hold onto bad things like we do. Amazing really. Dogs are though aren't they :) -

What a great time Justice & pax had Snook So pleased for you. They had such a blast together. I love watching the clips of them playing. Just lovely. This may very well be exactly what Justice needs. Such a huge confidence builder for a reactive dog IMHO. Made my day, such success :D Interested to know your thoughts on that DVD as well. -

I'm loving this thread. Really enjoying it :) Redfox, That pic of your 2 is a classic. What funny buggers they must be. You need to frame that IMHO My guys are exact opposites though I equally just adore them both so very much. It is so hard to pick just one reason why. Well.... Sonny because he is such a beautiful temperament. Natures gentlemen my boy Stella is very speshul as most would know & I love her zest for life. Stella does struggle with life most days but she gives each day 150% of happiness & enthusiasm. Yes, it's her character I adore Stel is such a happy girl, every time she sees you. You have only got to re enter a room & you get the same greeting. she is nearly bursting with excitment. Her tails is always wagging & she nearly turns herself inside out with the momentum of it, talking her head off all the while with her beloved 'Pete' her fluffy toy pelican stuffed in her mouth. She is an absolute classic my girl -
After I look at the ingredients list & I liked the look Sunday Pets from what I could make of it. I am no dietitian. I will give it a try. Most importantly I watch my dogs condition, if they look good shinny coat etc & maintain a healthy energy level. Then that is a winner by me. So far so good :)

Snook, SNT & Hankdog, thanks for your advice on finding a trainer. So glad I asked actually because you all thought of things I wouldn't of like going to watch a class first for one. I'm very motivated to learn but a bit overcome with training actually. We don't have much of a choice in our area as far as trainers go unfortunately & the few we have I wouldn't use or have already tried & with one in particular, I knew more than she did. Gosh I was disappointed. She was a school teacher who liked dogs actually. GREAT.... & she was frightened of Stella. So you understand my wariness when it comes to getting a capable trainer. So this Delta accredited girl is only quite new & she is young. I'm still unsure about it. Might email her & ask what other experience she has had with dogs besides Delta then. Terri, good luck with K9 Pro. I hope your boy settles down for you. I totally understand how very unnerving it can be when your dog begins to show signs of reactivity. I tended to lose confidence as well which doesn't help the situation. -

Raineth, yes more or less. She will still have Kalma when she is struggling with noise. Thunderstorms & crackers bring her undone as any loud noise does really. Even heavy rain & loud music. -

Yes Snook, Prozac didn't work for me either. I think thats another reason why I was hesitant to put Stella on it, as silly as that sounds. And also am terrified she is going to slip backwards again. So hope it works for her. I will tweak the dose accordingly but thought I'd start her very low as you can always move up. I hate it when she is in a medicated daze, as by nature she is extremely bright & bubbly. Loves every inch of life my girl, so trying to avoid that haze at all costs. Good luck with Justice tomorrow will be thinking of you :) Quick question to all. Have been looking for a descent trainer for a while now & happen to find a Delta accredited one which am very interested in hiring. Was wondering what you folks look for when looking for a good trainer? What do you think are things I should ask/look for ??? I'm looking for private lessons for both my guys. Maybe weekly at first as I'm not a motivated training type person so I need someone to help make it happen. I also need to make sure they are experienced with reactivity of course. Any ideas much appreciated :) -

Interesting Hankdog. I forgot Jake was on Prozac actually but am very pleased to read that you have had huge success with it I was hesitant to put Stella on this but new Vet swears by it for very noise phobic/reactive/nervy/anxious dogs to which Stella is all of the above. So we are giving it a go. She has only just started it 5 days ago, takes a couple of months to really get into their system I believe. Interesting about the time of day administration & the difference it can make. Strange isn't it? Anyway we have kicked off with 10 mg in the morning, see how we go with that. I'm hoping that Kalma will only have to be used on the really bad days. Thunder storms, cracker night or if she just isn't coping periodically. Along with her Mutt Muffs, Thunder shirt & DAP spray :D -

Quick update on Miss Stella. Tonight will be her 5th night medication free I have been gradually reducing her meds as I have started her on a very low dose of Prozac as requested by our new Vet. So I will only be giving her a third of the amount of Kalma she is used to. So she is now only taking half a Kalma tablet morning & afternoon. Stella used to half 3/4 of a Kalma tablet before bed but I have cut this gradually out. Now she has no meds & she has slept through for 4 nights in a row without any upsets, reactiveness or anxiety. I'm thrilled as this is the first time in her life she has managed to do this without the help of medication. Not only is she sleeping through but right through till 8am. Considering I was up with her on 3 to 4 times every night with her pacing, crying, running & so anxious it would take me ages to settle her. Only for her to rest for perhaps an hour, then to wake again. Fantasic effort my brave, sweet girl -

The Spencinater... Wow we need to patent that parent. She is amazing A shinning example of responsible dog ownership & she is making every effort to raise another. How beautiful. Wish there were many more like her :D -
My beautiful heart dog passed 8 years ago. I still miss him & dream about him. I sometimes even see when I'm walking my 2 guys along the beach he loved so much but then I blink & he is gone again. Time doesn't heal but you learn to cope a little better. You start to remember all the good times not just the horrible sad part at the end. You reflect on their amazing life, love, devotion & companionship. Be kind to yourself Seren...things will get better Everyone grieves in their own way. Lace has left a huge hole in your heart which will take time to heal & your mind needs time to reflect that is why you dream.
