  1. Yes well, why was he looking through the mat ruffils at you Hazy???? Only our Stan would be able to answer that OR maybe not  He is very speshul & very handsome. He can do whatever he likes except raid the fridge :D
  2. Hankdog... Don't know about a suitable bulldog straight jacket  Have a look at the Ruffwear Webmaster harness. K9 Pro have them. I have one for Stella for when we go hiking. Very well made & strong, plus they have an extra strap under the tummy. A really good handle on top which comes in very handy with a reactive dog I find. If Jake can get out of this harness a straight jacket may very well be your next option  HD, when Stella flip outs it is a mixture of everything you don't want a dog to do Very aggressive growling, lunging, barking, charging, spinning, & all this is done extremely quickly. I am not sure what else to do besides plant my feet & hang on as tight as I can to the leash. It's terrible really. Thankfully though this doesn't happen a lot as I usually do an emergency U turn if I feel there is going to be an issue or practice LAT but on occasion she will crack off unexpectedly & catch me off guard. I'm still in recovery mode after last Saturday's events to be honest I had Stella on leash beside me & we were sitting on the beach. She seemed very relaxed or so I thought when next thing she exits stage left flat out barking , growling & kicking off, whipping my around in a 360 & dragging me on my stomach. After a lovely big face plant in the sand There was another dog that had arrived on the beach about 50 yards away. Stel wasn't a happy camper about this obviously & I wasn't letting go of the lead... After dusting myself off, sucking up the total embarrassment as the beach was quite crowed I realized I could barely walk I had injured my back. Thankfully I have an excellent chiro who is in the process of fixing me up. Pinched sciatic nerve & back very bruised & out in 5 places apparently. Oh the joys of owning a reactive dog  With incidents like these or when she is reactive on lead in general, am I doing the right thing by not reprimanding her verbally? I say nothing atm & she is getting more vocal towards other dogs I believe & I need this behaviour to stop or a least lesson. She is a very sensitive/timid girl so have always thought I'd make her more sensitive if I were to rouse at her BUT I think she is getting a bit big for her britches of late when around other dogs. Maybe there is other avenue's I could explore??? I have always been of the opinion it is more important what I do to counteract/deter her behaviour than what I say but HELL I'm clearly wrong as we aren't making much positive progress as far as her reactivity toward other dogs are concerned.
  3. Stella my 4 year old BC spayed girl became incontinent sometimes after becoming Epilepsy effected. Her accidents usually occurred when she was asleep & would be woken suddenly, she wake up in a puddle or she'd be dripping sometimes. After reading about Corn Silk while google searching one day. For anyone interested apparently the Native American Indians have used Corn Silk for many years for anything to do with urinary tract issues. Anyway I brought some Corn Silk Caps & Stella has 2 broken into her dinner at night. We have had 2 very dry months now Works a treat here so far I'm very pleased to say :D

    Finn

Oh my gosh!!! what a gorgeous little Mr. Fluffy Pants is Finn  Just adorable. What a way to start the day having him wake you up to play. Heavenly :)
  5. AWWW, I'm so loving these photo's. They certainly do have a very speshul bond. Just gorgeous both of them
  6. Thanks for the linky skysblue :) Gorgeous grey. Very well behaved boy. Maybe it was trained by Kelly Sheena
  7. Bummer, I missed it. Sounds like it would have been great viewing.
  8. Oh what a little cutie!!! I hope she finds a loving forever home very soon. Such a pretty girl :)
  9. Really beautiful Teekay Can't help this but everytime I see that pic of your 2 happy dogs on the beach I say to my laptop,' God I love that picture' 'such happy dogs'... :D Impatiens, so pretty, all those flowers :) COOOO WEEEE right back at you Stan
  10. I haven't got a Mason Pearson brush for myself either Hankodie... I have a $20 boar bristle/nylon one from Priceline
  11. Both of mine are on RHV as I have one with early onset arthritis in his hips & his improvement in movement has really blown me away to be honest. He is moving so much more freer now & I have my girl on it as a preventative really. Also there overall condition & coat have improved dramatically as have their energy levels. They are both on a mainly raw diet which includes Roo meat & fresh fish that we catch our selves each day. Plus 25% KiwiPeak dry food. Venison & fish, which they love plus eggs, yoghurt etc 3 times a week :)
  12. I have hairy & big BC's, but not smelly MRB  & mine have always slept inside & in any weather extreme hot, cold or storm they are inside. I don't believe puppies/dogs should suffer any of the elements nor be outside at night IMHO. Also they want to feel part of the family & included in pretty much everything that goes on. JulesP that is an excellent set up you had going on there Maybel, Good to hear that you are exploring indoor sleeping arrangements for your little one. I think thats where he needs to be & bet he will be quiet as a church mouse once he gets into that routine. Puppies love a regular schedule.
  13. My guys love being brushed. I have groomed them both on a daily basis since puppy hood. Stella hated it as a youngster but now enjoys it & waits by Sonny's side as I grooming him for her turn each day. I just persisted in short intervals with them. Treats during the groom always help as puppies. As they are both desexed they have huge, thick coats. Neither of mine are keen on the slicker brush as it does pull their coat. So I use it sparingly on them. The same when I use the Mars Coat King. I use this to thin out their pants probably twice a year but only do one leg in the middle of brushing them all over, then I will do the other leg the next day. Don't want them to suffer any discomfort. They both love the Mason Pearson brush the best as well. I think it promotes healthy regrowth too.
  14. Good luck Don. Hope your behavourist can sort your little B out smartly. She needs putting in her place ASAP. I would keep them separate until it's sorted. Poor Bon is terrified & living in constant fear about being ambushed. Gosh this is all your need after a house move. This would of only added to the tension between your 2. I'm guessing this has been brewing for a while & Lucy has decided to play 'miss nasty pants'. 2 bitches together ERRRRR... no matter what the size can cause an uproar.
  15. Wat a dear little fella...RIP gorgeous Alfie So sorry for your loss. Such a cutie
  16. Lets lock Miss Stupid in the car on a 40 degree day for any length of time, oh as long as one side of the car is in the shade naturally.... all good then... I know you can't fix stupid but you could give I a dam good shake Poor dog I would hate to think what the temp. was inside that car.
  17. Yep... clueless & quite rude actually not to move away from you when asked when he wasn't invited in the first place. Some people make me really angry as they have their agenda. No consideration for others what so ever.
  18. Teekay, the beach is my fav spot too... Absolutely gorgeous shot of 2 very much loved, happy dogs Hazy lovely pic's Stan & Maddie look like they have always bee there. So relaxed. It's a nice spot. Fancy going to the beach & seeing no one. Fantastic ! Now that would NEVER happen in sandal vandal country LOL.
  19. Sorry to hear about your boy getting attacked Canetoad Hope he recovers OK from his traumatic ordeal. It peeves me off no end when owners aren't responsible with their dogs. PUT THE DOG ON A LEAD !!!!! ERRRRR Terri S wonderful news regarding Didi. Well done It's such a great feeling when some of your hard work pays off isn't it? :) Simply thanks for your kind words & understanding regarding owning a reactive dog :D Stella has settled down of late which is wonderful. She is sleeping through the night as well. I have been putting her on a leash as soon as I sight another dog or if one suddenly appears. I just don't trust her not to charge at them. She may or she may not. She sometimes completely ignores them BUT because she is unpredictable I will not give her the opportunity anymore. This is not what I would call a solution but it seems to work best. I ask her to 'leave it' & when she gives me attention & not the other dog, she is rewarded with treats. Sometimes if they come too close to us she will flip totally out, growling etc. So just stand still, not saying anything till she settles & she gets nothing. I don't try & verbally reprimand her while she is that heightened state of arousal as IMHO it is pointless. Interested to hear what others think though. I'm just pleased that she will see another dog in the last few days & run straight to me, without me calling her.Like she's connecting the too. Incomming dog, gotta get my leash on. She is extremely bright so nothing surprises me with her. I'm so proud of her. I find I'm a lot calmer so that would have to help her as well.
  20. Gosh Nekhbet, all those great dogs. That Lab got me too. His gorgeous face. Beautiful Mal as well. They would have all been PTS. Amazing work, thanks for sharing :) As far as these halti's & alike. They are a training AID. They don't train your dog. I have used an Infin-8 with great results. They are my pick of any head halter's. As for needing "power to hold him" it's got nothing to do with power or muscle. IMHO If you train a dog to walk on a leash correctly you should be able to walk him holding the lead with your pinky finger. Unless he has other issues going on eg. reactivity or anxiety. Choker/check chains used correctly work wonderfully well & don't hurt the dog at all. Like any form of equipment, used incorrectly are ineffective & may very well harm the dog.
  21. Excellent post T Snakes & ticks would be your biggest worry plus good dog proof fencing... Just like to add that I'm extremely jealous  My dream would be on a farm by the sea somewhere warm :D I'm not greedy though, just one acre would will do
  22. I have a Roomba 780 & it handles 2 BC's hair without any dramas :)
  23. Yes noticed that VM. Maybe the lovely lady could train one of the younger GRs to pull the gourgeous little red wagon & she could ride 'shotgun' for a while ;)
