Help Please - Anxious Dog With No Off Switch
BC Crazy replied to *kirty*'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Rocky sounds like he is going really well Nekhbet Great news... thanks for the update. Sounds very promising. He may be able to be rehomed after all which would be wonderful after his bloody terrible start in life. I have never had a counter surfer thankfully but I most certainly have a massive bird/mower/scooter pretty much anything that moves besides cars chaser that I have to constantly monitor. Stella puts a whole new meaning to the word fast. She is so quick & alert all the time. She makes it very hard for me to stay one step ahead of her. -
I was going to suggest Oz horse toys as well. There toys look great. I would love to get my boy one of those huge Pilate type balls to play with but have to put it on the wish list till we relocate to a home with a bigger yard. One of those would take up our whole yard at the moment

We have lots of squeaky toys here. My boy luvvves his squeaky toy's. The louder the better. His absolute fav is his hide-a-bee. He runs around with a bumble bee in his mouth, squeaking it's head off. It works for Sonny without fail. Gets everyone's attention. LOL :)

Well done Jake. Sounds like Jakey is going really well HD. Makes me wonder the exact same thing HD. Gene mutation perhaps??? I don't exactly know but it does make me think something in their make up makes them more susceptible to other ailments than most dogs. -
What Yonjuro said :) best thing I ever brought was a force dryer. I have a cool/ heat one. Unless it is cold weather I just use the cool air. Saves the dogs coat & still dries them off. Gets rid of any loose under coat as well. Not a good idea to leave a dog with a wet coat for any length of time as it could lead to all sorts of skin issues. Not to mention Arthritis & alike if left get cold.

My girl is very selective about what balls she chases. It's Ultra Balls or bust... I started a post in the training thread about this actually. You can throw any other ball all you like & get no response from Stella apart from a look of "you have to be kiddin right ???" LOL...

Vent: Why Do People Get A Pup Without Really Thinking It Over
BC Crazy replied to Scottsmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
So often I see over weight dogs. Labs especially There are 2 that live behind us. I swear they can barely walk. On a hot day you hear them before you see them. Huffing & puffing as they struggling to walk It is just so sad & so cruel. One of this pair inparticular, her hind legs are so bowed from trying to support her own sheer body mass... The owners say "oh, they love their food"... -

Poor Jake Hankdog I don't know why our "speshul" dog's seem to be susceptible to so many ailments. Both my guys have a few significant health issues. Then Stella has her quite severe reactivity/noise phobia etc temperament on top...she got the double whammy my baby girl. -
Very interesting post Brookstar. Thank you ☺ Sonny has had a full spine/hip & hind legs XRay to confirm his condition. Glucosamine high dose formula is on its way. I read how important this could be for him. We have his pain levels under control now. He is moving a lot more freer & is back to his very happy self again. He is having Accupuncture/Chiro/massage. One thing I have to do is reclaim my beanbag by the sound of things. Sorry Sonny

Lovely... Beautiful photo of her too. Yes she is where she belongs. Rest easy pretty ness girl.

Kirty, funny alright If I kick a ball around Stella she cringes & gets away from me. Yet I can kick it full on at Sonny & he loves it. They harder the better. He will run around chasing it, playing soccer with me. My 2 are chalk & cheese. Jemappelle, glad I'm not the only one hunting around in the bush for ball left overs

Yes good thinking Mavis. That is something I haven't tried. The rate I go through Chuck it balls I should perhaps get some shares ????
-
Oh if only they could Delta Charlie. We wish... Stella does my head in at times trying to work out what makes her tick. She is very complex... She isn't alone as your Cody is the same. The frustrating part is she sooo wants to play with the new ball but I could throw it till I'm blue in the face & she just stands & watches it go by with the blankist look on her face. Then just nudges it around in disgust. Really weird isn't it. She is really drivey though. It would also help if I was a better thrower too LOL

Interesting TSD...maybe I need to throw a few new balls in their toy box or something to get that new ball smell off. Being rubber they are quite smelly I guess.

Yes well Stella is a very funny girl alright. I have had BC's since childhood & now in my early 50's I have never had such a quirky ,funny & unusual girl. She is also incredibly smart. I just adore her. This retrieve thing is just another quirk to add to the collection. I would love to try your suggestion & rub the old ball against the new one but I usually lose the old ball. I have tried to let my boy retrieve her new ball first then throw it for her but NO... she just watches it go past... or she just goes & smell it. Maybe nuzzle it. Looking like she is bored as. I can't even get her to hold the new ball in her mouth for a second. But then she decides to retrieve it for reasons only known to herself. Then she will play it with such drive. She growls the whole time & returns that ball as fast as ever. Go figure... funny girl ☺

Oh my gosh how beautiful ???????????? Very very adorable...☺

Hi folks, This isn't an earth shattering problem I know but would like to unravel the mystery of it if I could. My 4 year old BC girl loves playing fetch but I am at a loss as to why she behaves like she does. Firstly, she will only chase a chuck it medium size ball, no other. Not a tennis ball or any other rubber ball no matter how you throw it. So she is very fussy about her balls  Secondly if we loose her ball & need to use a new one this is a major issue with her. When I throw the new ball she runs up to it but refuses to pick it up & just pokes it around with her nose for a bit then walks back to me minus the ball It takes me a good 3 or 4 sessions to break the new ball in with her. I have tried to dirty up the ball a bit. Also rubbed my hands on it a bit etc I can tell she is extremely keen to play but she wont pick up that new ball until she is good & ready. Out of curiosity has anyone else ever had this problem? Any ideas as to how to overcome this as I am getting very tired playing fetch by myself. She is a quirky girl at the best of times. Maybe this is just another one of her oddities. Any similar stories/suggestions please????

Hi dancin, our house is on 3 levels & has loads of stairs. 14 to go from the front door to the kitchen. Then 4 to the lounge, our main living area. When Sonny was a youngster we blocked them off as I was always concerned for his safety around them. I carried him when we needed to. Years ago I read somewhere not to let young dogs use stairs too much as their bones haven't developed & they could cause skeletal damage. Neither Sonny or Stella were allowed near the stairways as puppies nor did they use them as maturing dogs. Both dogs usually stay in the lounge room kitchen area with us & there is just 3 stairs in between. Sonny mainly just likes to lay in his bean bag in front of the TV. He loves to watch it. We are just about to put our home on the market actually as I too suffer with Arthritis we are down sizing to a home on a level block with no stairs. Can't wait! ... I've pretty much wrapped him cotton wool Dancin, as I always do with any of my dogs. They are never left in the elements. Heat or cold. Always had the best diet I was able to provide. Never allowed to be over worked or run on hard surfaces etc etc. That's what really upsets & disappoints me with his condition & he is only 6 as you know.
