  1. Thanks for your reassurance Odin-Genie as this problem has shocked me a bit as I have never had a food aggressive puppy before & my confidence has taken a blow at the moment. I have noticed it is only raw foods that trigger her behaviour, anything other foods/treats I am able to take them out of her mouth when ever I please & I give them straight back to her & praise her, without her showing any sign of growling/aggression. I hope I have as much success as you & well done on your very positive out come. Gives me hope & belief.
  2. If the only time you're seeing issues is outside the crate, try feeding all meals there. I'd suggest you stop interrupting her feeding in the crate and that you feed her chicken wings in there too. Separation from your other dog might also decrease her anxiety. Oh, o.k. Poodlefan, I will follow your advice chic wings in crate too. Keep them totally separate during mealtimes. Looks like I might have to get in some help with this one. I have also contacted Stella's breeder via email, she may be able to shed some light on this.
  3. Thank's everyone for your help with Stella. Oh dear !!!! I knew this was not good. And I know she means business, she will bite me if I get in her comfort zone while she is eating her treasured wings. I have only had her a week & 2 days & I always feed her, 3 times a day, in her crate in a bowl, i open the crate door ocassionly & touch her & move the bowl & she does nothing apart from to continue to eat. But because I also have Sonny my other BC I put them both out on the back lawn, sonny has a chic carcess & Stella has a wing. And I supervise them until they are finished. I wont go near her at this time of the day from now on till I get help. Luckily I don't have any kids around these days.I am really upset about this as this is her only problem, she is soooo good with everything else, she is such a dear little thing.I wonder what makes pups have this issue? I need to go & collect myself I think. I know I am a sook. I just love her to bits already.
  4. Hi, My 12wk old BC puppy, Stella, has a nature to die for, she is the sweetest little girl you could come across, a real cuddle pot. I am having issues with her & food aggression though( big time). She is fine with her meals that are I prepare for her in her bowl but if she has a chicken wing or a brisket bone she goes I make her sit before I give it to her, I take a step or two away, then I go to even walk near her & she bares her teeth ( mouth still full of wing ) growls & spits & runs at me to get away from her. I have never seen anything like it. Very scarey. I have verbally roused on her for this behaviour but this doesn't fase her. Sonny my 2.5 year old BC never once growled at me over food. She really means business, I try to even pat her on the back to reasure her that I don't want to take her food but she just moves away, snapping & snarling in my direction. Any help / advice or experience with this issue would be soooo appreciated as I don't want her to be food aggressive when she is older & I also worry if she is choking or something I want to be able to help her.
  5. I wouldn't be too hard on her at that age! She's only a baby You might like to take another chew toy to give her so she doesn't focus on the lead. maybe a lead that attaches behind her might help as well. When Sally (Kelpie now 18 months) was a bit older, we use "Uh-UH" for meaning no, and when she starts playing with the lead we say "UH=UH" and she gets it, give her praise for doing the right thing! Don't worry Sallyandtex I wont be too hard on my little Miss Stella, I love her tooo much for that LOL. I think we are making progress today & I am ignoring any biting/pulling on leash & only praising the good stuff, like crazy.

  7. Yes Sandra777, that's exactly what I don't want to do.I don't want Stella to sour of the whole lead thing. I have moved the very short lessons into the lounge room where there is less distractions & are pleased to report Miss Stella went extremely well today & didn't grab the lead once So we will remain indoors for a while cause I think she is starting to listen to me a lot more & it is easier for her to focus.
  8. Hi, My new BC puppy arrived last Sunday. so we had her for 1 week now & she is going really well. Very bright little girl, she has settled in here like she has been here before & we love her to bits . I have just started to lead train her. She is going O.K. very food focused but would much rather play tug-of-war with the lead, or just bite it & roll on her back & have a game. I encourage with verbal praise & treats when she moves forward, even 1 step but it's the lead chewing & pulling that I don't want to become a bad habit. I have sprayed some "stop chew" product on the lead to try & discourage her but she liked the taste of it : Any help / advice with this would be greatly appreciated.
  9. I have just done the exact same thing as you Meluchja & changed my boy over from RC for coat e.t.c. to BH a week ago today with unbeliveable results already. His coat especially has improved 110%. I was a die hard RC fan for years but seeing these results so quickly, I am amazed to be honest. He is sparkling almost. And he loves the taste as well, ( he is very fussy as a rule) I'm wrapped.
  10. 8 boy's Bjelkier, that is crazy alright. Must not be 'the right one'. I had 4 occasions,'miscarriages' I call them waiting for my new Border Collie little girl. I had the all boy litter, the phantom preg, twice & all the litter were going to show homes. Now finally, more than 12 months after my search started & with 19 days to go before I pick up my new baby girl I am beside myself with excitement. I just kept in the back of my mind when my efforts kept failing, ' you don't get the puppy you want, you get the one you need'. I have a 2.5 year old boy already, so it does certainly narrow down your choices when you have to choose a particular gender & I wanted certain lines in the breed. The first time I saw her, she is worth every bit of that wait. She is stunning. ( and she knows it ).
  11. OOOHHHH, How beautiful, & how very sad. The shear devotion of that little fella. Dogs, they are just the most amazing thing's, aren't they.
  12. I think Oliver ( who by the way is just gorgeous) & yourself are doing sooooo well. At 10 weeks old. He is just a baby & 'the stay' is I would think the most boring thing in the world for him to do. I didn't expect 'Sonny' to do more than sit & down at 10 week's. I started teaching Sonny to 'wait' at doorways & gates & at the car door & gradually extended that time at about 13 weeks. Then I gradually taught him stay a while after that using the method's already discussed by everyone. Just got to watch & don't reward any movement off the mark, I did that a few times, my mistake, & sometimes even now Sonny will start to wander off. Totally agree with Flash30 Aus, Borders just don't want to be away from you. I used to get 'told off' all the time in group class by the trainer cause she said Sonny was too 'clingy' with me. Would not let me out of site, & still, even with maturity doesn't like it. Good luck with your beautiful Oliver.
  13. Hi everyone, I have just brought a my first dog dryer. It is a barrel type, Lazor 2 I think it is called. I absolutely love it ! The problem is my border collie, hates it !!!! He has only ever had one used on him once with the same results. He growls at it & tries to bite the nozzle all the time. My husband had to hold him & I turned it down to the lowest setting & started on his pants area, very slowly, he was O.K. for a second but as soon as I moved it around a bit, GRRRR & snapping again. I managed to get him mostly dried off but would like him not to be so stressed about it. He loves having a bath & is groomed on a daily basis & loves it. I don't know if it is the noise of it or the hose I am holding.Would appreciate any advice or has anyone had any similar issues. Thanks in advance.
  14. I didn't see the footage, & I am bloody glad I didn't cause it would haunt me at night when I am trying to go to sleep. I would end up in tears. When I hear things like this it makes me ashamed to call myself part of the human race. This incredibility poor excuse for a 'man' is a waste of oxygen & I hope he gets everything that is coming to him. :p Karma is a wonderful thing at times. The poor, poor swan, such a beautiful, harmless, creature. Hope it is going to pull through.
  15. As I have on order a C. C. T. brush, I am thinking I will stick with the silver Les Pooch & be done with it. Hang the expense.LOL. I try to look after Sonny's coat the best I can so it would be silly to buy a brush that could cause more damage to it. I think I really only need these 2 brushes anyway & a metal comb to finish him off which I already have. I am going to get another little girl next year, so I will certainly be giving them a workout daily. They will pay for themselves in no time I reckon.
  16. Yes, I think the groomer I took Sonny to had those look a like brushes, seemed to work well & they are very similar to look at. Now this really confuses the issue LOL. Can't bet the price of them though!
  17. Yeah, I like to hint drop first, you never know your luck. If all else fails, I just order it anyway cause I know I will use it to bits anyway.
  18. I know, I just want to get it right JulesP. LOL I am reckoning the double silver though as they are recommended for double coats breeds, aka, ' Sonny'.
  19. Got to love that espinay2. Nothing like the direct approach. I will have to try that if all else fails. LOL
  20. Thank's for that information espinay2. With Crissy coming up, never know your luck. LOL someone might shout me one, better start throwing some hints now
  21. I haven't heard of the silver ones, is there a site I can see them on Koemi?
  22. That is good to know ellz. I have had a heap of opp's on elbows, wrists & hand's so I am after any tools that will make grooming easier. I groom my boy every night before he comes inside for the evening. I have found a 10 to 15 min. groom is easier for me to do than to groom for an hour once a week. I have on order a C.Christensen T. pin brush & I thought I would also order a green Les pooch. I always use a metal comb at the end of the session to remove any loose hairs & make sure I didn't miss any knots on his pants e.t.c. Hope I am on the right track. Brought so many cheap brushes & the pins just fall out & stuff. So thought it better to outlay that little bit extra this time.I think they are better on their coat as well.
  23. I have googled Les Pooch stockists in au to no avail. I had Sonny professionally groomed last friday & she just happened to use a green La Pooch brush, similar looking to a slicked but a bit more flexable. She seemed to think it would be a good choice for me, but I thought i'd throw a thread around to see what everyone thought. She brought a 'copy' version of the brush for her own reasons.
  24. Hello everyone, Was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy Les Pooch dog brushes. I believe they are really good & would suit the grooming needs of Sonny my border collie. Also heard they are good for anyone with hand & wrist issues, like myself. I do have a Chris Christensen T Brush on order & am looking forward to that arriving as it is on back order so it could be a while. They to are suppose to be a little easier on the wrists & hands. Interested on your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
