If it is these Demotex mites what medication should I get for her as I am reluctant to use this wash with ' drowsey' side effects. -

I am using Advantix on her once every 3 weeks as we live in an area which is very bad for tick's pretty much all year round. -
Hi everyone, My 6 mth old BC 'Stella' has a gradual hair loss around her left eye. It is not troubling her at all & she is not scratching it or anything. I am worried about it as I would hate it to spread on her as it looks aweful enough already. I have had her to the vet's twice in as many week's & it even has him stumped. He has taken 2 skin scrapings & checked for Mites or Mange & he found nothing. apart from healthy skin. She has no hair loss anywhere else, infact her coat is looking beautiful, shiny & healthy. I am waiting on the vet to get some sort of wash in that he wants me to wash her in twice a week for a month just in case it is mites, only side effect with it is that it will make her a little drowsey apparently.I have never had any experience with mites or mange on my dogs so am really treading in unknown territory here, if that is the problem I also have a almost 3 year old boy 'Sonny' & he doesn't have any hair loss anywhere on him ( magnificently coated ) I am hoping what ever this is isn't catching Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. '.

Hi Puppybella, Congratulations on your new addition. When I was crate/toilet training Stella, I found routine to be the key to it really. I feed my dogs fairly early 4pm, Limited water intake after 6pm,last toilet stop around 10pm, then into the crate & door closed. Till she was about 5mths I would get up during the night & let her out for a toilet break, then back into the crate till 6.30am.I gradually increased the time I would let her out during the night though. Started off at 2am, then 2.30 & so on. She never once had an accident in her crate she might of had only a few inside the house but not many, & only weed. Sure it is a pain, broken sleep, but it is soooo worth it now. Hope I was of some help. Good luck with your little one.

I'm with you, I have purchased 2 PVC beds( which are a quality product, the legs of these beds are also removable for great storage when traveling, well worth the money) from Kennel Solutions & found there service excellent, very helpful & fast. Would recommend them to anyone.

I had Stella desexed last week & same as you CW EW, went to pick her up from the vets 4 pm. The vet nurse said she should still be a bit groggy but she was as bright as a button, nearly bowled me over & licked me to death. Didn't show any signs of being in pain or anything. Opp, what Opp !!! Even the next day carried on as normal. Will be taking her back to vets in a couple of days to get the stitches out but it has healed perfectly. She didn't try & pull the stitches out either, I thought she would.no eliz. collar on or anything. And as far as keeping her quiet, Well I did try but soooo difficult with a 6 mth BC who has a almost 3year old BC big brother to play with. He amazed me too though as it was as if he knew that he had to go easy with her cause while they did play it was like he was in 'gentle mode' for a while but now it is back to norm. My wild furry kids!

Poor, poor puppy The actions of some "people" & I use the term extremely loosely, never seace to shock / sicken me to the core. Lucky I am a big believer in KARMA. Imagine for a moment the torture& pain this poor little pup went through. Hanging is too good for them! Hope pup can pull through, she deserves to find a loving home & want for nothing like all animals should. Hang in there Maya. -
I have 2 BC's Laura, A male & a female both of them are desexed . Got them both done at 6 mths of age. Sonny is almost 3 now & Stella has just turned 6 mths. Don't know anything about any new law. My vet didn't mention anything about that to me & I only had Stella done on Tuesday of this week. Desexing prices goes on the weight & sex of your puppy as far as I know. Both my furry kids also have under shot jaws. If you are buying your puppy on limited register as I have you can't show them anyway. I was a bit concerned at first about it when I went to see Sonny but after it was explained to me by the breeder that it doesn't hurt/worry the dog in any way, it certainly didn't bother me. And neither of mine have had any problems with it what so ever. I thought it might effect their eating, but it certainly doesn't effect my two. They can eat everything & Stella would if I allowed her to. You wouldn't know to look at them there was anything out of the ordinary either, unless you opened their mouth. Also my Sonny's jaw almost corrected itself. He started off with a gap of roughly 5mm. A males bottom jaw continues to go until they are about 8 mths of age. His only finished up short by about 1/2 mm. Stella's was a bigger undershot than Sonny's, 7.5mm maybe, but hers is improving everyday. Girls bottom jaw continue to grow till there about 12 months according to my vet. As long as it is an under bite & not an over bite, their can be big problems with over shots apparently & also make sure the jaw is not twisted in anyway. The way I look at it is if my pups didn't have this imperfection then I would not of been offered them & the absolute pleasure of owning them cause the breeder would of kept them to show herself. It is a genetic thing. Both mine have very similar blood line, Sonny's dad is Stella's grand dad. In the end it is entirely up to you. Hope I have been of some help. If you need to ask me anything else , feel free to email me.

If I found a puppy that I liked, bloodlines I'd been looking e.t.c e.t.c I would travel anywhere in O.Z. / N..Z. Tas, even O.S. maybe If need be. Your not just buying a handbag or something material. Anyone that has thought you were mad obviously hasn't met me ;) . And aren't passionate about the same things you are. Not dog people. IMO they don't know what their missing. My life would not be complete without my furry kids. The joy they bring cannot be summed up by an amount of travel or how much they cost.

My BC baby girl ,'Stella' had this revolting habit too. Although she just ate the once, didn't 'enjoy it' twice And only her own. From when I got her at 3 mths till 4.5 mths of age. I tried pineapple juice, didn't work for her.I did however use' Rescue Remedy'. 4 drops a day for a couple of weeks & she had not done it again. Don't know if it was just coincidence or it really did work but I was just glad she stopped doing it. And it was the only thing I changed in her diet & she has a very good quality of food, Holistic dry food / 4 varieties of raw meats, pasta & vegies & vitamin supplements also each day. My vet recommended I try this product. I always pick up after my furry kids, but she would go to the toilet & eat it almost before ti hit the ground, I had to be very quick & also spend half my day watching her ( which I do anyway )

Same Panzer, Sonny & Stella were shockers when they were just babies. we also had croc rolls & tanti's by the dozen !!! Sonny would just plant his butt on the ground & look at me as much to say, "And wat do you intend to do about that". :D Then cry out & throw himself on the ground in disgust. Stella was excellent in reverse with the lead in her mouth. So I just got all the patience I could muster & lots of treats & praise, praise & more praise. A couple of minutes at a time. 2 steps at a time sometimes. And just be consistant. Best of luck at this trying time. You'll be o.k. Im sure. Just remember she is just a baby & to have fun with her. Keep us posted.

I don't like harnesses at all. I think they make the dog pull more. I use a flat collar usually but I have discovered the Infin 8 dog halter. I love them. No more pulling !!! & they are very gentle. I use them on the way down to my leash-free dog beach that i walk with my furry kids every day & I walk them home on a flat collar. I used this when my almost 3 year old boy was learning to lead train & you gradually loosen / remove the nose band. Best purchase I have ever made. :D I have had lots of surgery on my hands, forearms & elbows so have very little strength in both arms & limited movement so my 2 have to be extremely well behaved on lead. They are getting there.

Yes was in the process of emailing Stella's breeder ( she is very helpful & patient with me. Just been holding off as I know she is very busy at the Sydney Royal. Thank's for advice & help, I appreciate it.

When you say just before the first season, should that go by age, 6 mths. or are there signs that she is coming on heat or about to besides the obvious when it is too late. I am a newbie as far this girlie dog stuff goes. LOL just want to do what has to be done at best time for my Stella.

Sorry everyone, Don't know how this other info got onto my thread but was just after some advice regarding desexing Stella, my almost 6 month old female Border collie. Can find a lot of info on desexing males but not much regarding our little girls. I have her on limited register so it must be done which is fine with me & I had in mind to book her into my vet next week when she is 6 months of age. Would appreciate any advice on this as I have heard some say that they think it is too young. But I certainly don't want her to come into season, so am I right in thinking that this could happen anytime after 6 months of age? Thank you in advance for you help.

Butterfly girl, I desexed my Border Collie at 6 months of age, he is now almost 3 & has matured to be a very handsome boy in deed. He he a big lad though,& I do think it changes their body shape slightly. Without trying to highjack your thread, was wondering other DOL's thoughts on what is a good age to desex a female BC as my girl is almost 6 months of age & was purchased on limited register so must be desexed & was going to get her done next week. She is quite mature body wise for her age, she is coming along beautifully but I certainly don't want her to come into season. Think I am doing the right thing at the right time? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I am sickened to the core reading this. 11 years of age & it was just too much trouble for the moron to feed him & give him a bloody drink. Give him some help to get up & stretch him poor old legs.Don't know how this so called 'man' can sleep at night. What a waste of oxygen. Totally agree with you Dogmad. SCUM.!!!!

OMG!!!!!!! Rest in peace. You poor, poor boy. ;) At lease you are suffering no longer. It's moments like this I feel ashamed to be human. We are suppose to be the ones with superior intelligence.Go figure. I am a big believer in karma. I hope this "thing" who abused this darling boy gets whats coming to him, Big Time. -
Dittto JulesP, both my BC's come inside with us at dusk & at bed time they are both crated in our laundry. Sonny the 2.5 year old his crate, door not closed though but my 5.5 month old , Stella has her door closed. I don't hear any noise, crying or unsettled behaviour till I go in next morning. after 8 hours. They are the very best of friends & have bonded wonderfully.

Hi everyone, just a quick update on Stella. She is going really, really well. We have made tonnes of progress. She is now thriving on it. I love her to bits. Her lead walking is improving everyday & I have just started clicker training her. She if focusing well on me & is enjoying the outings. We only go a very short distance (maybe two houses or so) & many laps of the lounge room/backyard. Her food guarding has improved amazingly. I have been following what my breeder recommended I do. As the issue was with her high value chic wings only, I give her a wing and then take it off her occasionally & repeat that process & she has never growled / bared teeth / e.t.c again. I am never complacent with the issue though & will continue to work with her on this. Thanks to everyone who had positive feedback & advice for us, my Stella & I appreciate it.

Have a great time camping. We go camping lots with my BC boy, & next month we will be taking our new addition to our family my little 'Stella' 4 month BC. Yes, I end up packing way more things for my furry kids than I do myself.A must from my experience is a crate. Tethering is too difficult when they are little. Everyone has pretty much covered what you will need. Life jackets are important ( we get laughed at by resident campers cause Sonny always has his life jacket on when we are out in the boat (which is his absolute fav thing to do) but as djf also said if there is a strong out going tide or alot of people out in there boats & they don't see your dog swimming or the dog simply tires, can't be too careful. Also no matter where we go I always have my dogs up to date with their Advantix & I also have them wear a Preventic tick collar as well in high risk tick area's, and just simply take it of before a swim.I always try not to let my furry kids wander or 'annoy' fellow campers or other people in general as we are not all animal lovers ( just think quietly to myself how much pleasure they are missing out on) LOL
