Totally agree,it is hard enough to get one puppy to listen to you let alone trying to get two. Stick with one, bond with him & enjoy him. Get him going how you want him. Why make it more difficult than it should be. Suppose to be fun.

Hi, My boy was 2.5 years old & he did pretty much everything I asked of him before I brought home my little 12 week girl home. I had always wanted 2 furry kids & am so glad I waited till Sonny had completely settled in before adding a new littlely to the mix. For one thing I had no idea that they learn so much of the older dog & they communicate together all the time.( so if your older one is naughty) guess what !! the younger one mirrors everything it sees the older one doing. Sonny taught Stella most of the 'house rules'& showed her the ropes. He tells her off if she oversteps her mark. Not with any aggression though, lies her on the floor, just puts his mouth over hers & makes lots of noise. It would be very hard teaching 2 puppies together IMO, you need to bond with both & have one on one time with both. With what I have learn't so far having 2 there is no way I would dream about trying to raise 2 puppies together, but thats just my thoughts. Also I wanted be sure that I got a little girl with the right temperament to compliment Sonny & they adore one another.Which is more than I could have ever asked. There would be others on DOL that would probably take 2 young ones on in a heart beat but they would be a lot more capable / experienced than myself.

Beautiful, brought tears to my eye's with the shear message of thanks from a beautiful four legged girl. They never cease to amaze me our furry friends as they are so often underestimated for how smart they really are. Just fills my heart with warmth. Brave & loving girl . Ya for the Day for the courageous fireman.

Hi & welcome, It is hard if your pup has not been socialised very much. I'm thinking it is all very over welming for her ATM. The breeder certainly hasn't done you or your goldie any favours. If it were me I would take things very slowly with her, she has just arrived really so she has pretty much gone from one extreme to the other. Outside & not handled, to what I would call "normal" interacting family life. Just sit somewhere quiet within her sight & let her come to you, this may take time, treat her as soon as she does, & stroke her gently, soothing almost. Talk to her & try to slowly gain her confidence This is just an example, I am no expert but I rescued a BC,( the most difficult / rewarding thing I think I have ever done ) that was severely traumatized & never socialised, once I won him over he gave me 14.5 years of unwavering devotion. It will take loads of patience to gain her trust. One step at a time. It is terrible to see a pup that is under socialised but it is wonderful to watch them slowly gain confidence & bloom into a happy self assured puppy. Good luck with her. Keep us posted.

Yep, I'm with you. I use exactly the same method as you. as I don't agree with them toilet in their sleeping space either, just sending them very mixed messages I reckon, they certainly wouldn't toilet there if they had a choice as they are very, very clean by nature in general. Sure it is a pain, setting alarms & getting up but the rewards are well worth it. I only had 6 maybe( No.1) accidents in our home through the whole toilet training thing, from about 16 weeks old on. Good as gold.

Blinking away the tears as I read this beautiful story. And you get the YA for the Day for rescuing her What a huge difference you have made to this lovely little girl's life from here on in. She will never forget you either you know. It's people like you that restore my faith in humanity. The stories I read / hear, my faith needs all the restoring it can get.

OMG !!!! Poor, poor boy. This is another form of abuse without a doubt IMO. Hope the toll on his poor body & heart is not to great for him to pull through this epic weight loss he is going to have to endure to continue to live. Good luck boy. There should be a law against this form of cruelty. The owners seem some what proud of there achievement.

She'll be much happier when she is lean, believe me. Obesity ages dogs prematurely. It hurts their joints, especially if they're already starting to get arthritis, and it makes them more likely to get cancer & diabetes. Yep - I have to restrain myself with my girl too, because I know she'd just eat herself to death given half the chance. It's important not to project human emotions/desires etc onto them too- Maggie looks at me like she's STARVING and DESPERATE and just wants ONE more piece! But really, she's just as happy having a cuddle or playing with me, or.. sleeping. It's just me projecting my own food desires onto her most of the time, I'm sure. Your dog won't even know she's not getting fed as much as before, you just have to disconnect your own guilt and reaction to it Couldn't of put it better !!!! I am certainly one of those people too or I should say I was !! every time my boy looked my way "oh he must want a little something" & then I would give him a bit more dinner cause I was hungry that particular night. Not any more & he is soooo much happier & energtic now he is the correct weight. I wasn't doing him any favours at all over feeding him. Just made me feel better. Killing him with kindness was all I was doing. Not any more, everything that goes into his mouth is measured, no more guess work either. I have disconnected my own guilt, it is not an easy thing to do if it is in your nature but every time I look at him he thanks me for it. :D

G day Dandybrush, Go us Dolers & our quirky kids !!!! Hope Willow & Raz are going well & running a muck LOL. My Stella, what can I say , she is just a very funny girl. She lie's like a turtle, suck's her 'sucky toy' which is now a beautiful big fluffy Pelican Sonny has kindly donated to her. At least now I can watch her do this sucky toy thing & not worry as much about her, she is content, healthy & happy that is all that matters after all & very adorable
-
So there are quite a few furry kids with this toy sucking fettish !! I was pretty concerned about my girl but after reading more about this problem via the link provided by Pretty miss Emma & the other dolers with pups with similar traits to Stella I don't think I am going to worry as much. If she wants to suck her thumb & she is content, then I am not going to stop her. Apparently they don't grow out of it as I thought she might either & it is more common in Borders,Dobs & Springers which I thought was interesting. Thanks for all your help everyone, I love DOL. :D

OMG !!! That is exactly like my Miss Stella, LOL. Kenzie is sooo cute too.I am wrapped to find I am not alone with a quirky girl. I have also found an online shop that sells her fav fluffy toy cause she gets them very feral as well. I like the thumb sucking explanation. But as you say, 'who knows'. Thank's so much for the link regarding this & will read it with great interest. I must admit I was worried about it cause I love her too bits.

Interesting as I often wondered with behaviour like Stella's that very same thing, maybe taken off her mum too young. I have never had a pup act like this. She is my 4th BC I have owned. Very similar traits to your girl, only certain fluffy toys, no others, does it a lot more when tired or if she gets a fright she will run & get her fluffy ball for a quick security hit. Very much a comfort thing with her I feel. At first I thought she may grow out of it & although she doesn't do it quite as much as she did when she was very young, she still does it heaps. I have thought whether I should try & stop her, hide the toy from her to break the habit. Didn't think about damage to her teeth though, will quizz my vet next time I speak to him about it I think. What is your girls nature like? Stella is quite edgey & highly strung at times, a little trouper, she is a snuggle bunny though. Very sweet.

Don't be sorry cassie, thank's for taking the time to reply.

Stella was desexed at 6 months of age. She has been doing this since I got at 12 weeks.

Hi everyone, Was wondering if anyone could shed some light on my girl's very weird behaviour which she has done since day one. Stella is 7 months now & is just a delight to own, healthy, very alert, smart & happy little girl, she is maturing beautifully & we love her to bits. What she does is she always carries her favourite toy around in her mouth pretty much all day ( a fluffy ball) & she also sucks on it all the time. Till the toy is soaking wet & that still doesn't deter her. Of a night time or whenever she is tired she collects all her favourite toys into a pile & gets her special sucking one in her mouth & lies on top of the others & sucks away like she is suckling on her mum. This goes on for ages till she falls asleep, then she wakes, spits the toy out & nods off to sleep again. It doesn't bother me as much as I wonder why she does it. She is in her own little world when she is doing this, like a dummy almost. I hope she is not feeling insecure or something. Interested in your thought's on this. Maybe other's have furry kids with similar behaviour's?

Glad to hear Stella is going so well & loves her new lounge bed as much as my Stella does LOL. My girl wont stay in the lounge room without me either, follows me everywhere. I 2nd the wiping the paws thing before entering the house thing, works really well for us too! I groom my 2 kids every arvo before they come inside for the evening without fail, which includes wiping face/feet,checking pades e.t.c pin brush/comb, & Tick check (very bad for Tick's where we live) Once you get them in a routine they don't know any different & it does relax them. Sonny has his eyes closed usually by the time I finish him most times And soon as they see the grooming bag come out, they both are come over & wait their turn, don't even have to call them. Calm's them into a nice lay back mood to enter our home.

What To Use For Dental Hygiene
BC Crazy replied to ruthless's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Another deer antler fan here, both mine love them. The vet always comments on how nice & healthy their teeth & gums are. -
Your 'Marlin' is sooo cute BCPuppy !!! Very nice looking little guy. My BC ,Sonny, used to stalk/eye me as well when he was younger, funny isn't it? Also was a very keen gardener, his speciality the was indoor plants in our lounge room, liked to bring them to use while we were watching T.V at night minus the pot of course with a big grin all over his very cute/dirty face. :p

A Conversation With My Dogs This Afternoon
BC Crazy replied to Dust Angel's topic in General Dog Discussion
Very funny. Wasn't me, Don't you love that look, 'It wasn't me'. LOL -
Tried the egg ring thing a few times while waiting for my 'Eat Better' bowl to arrive, Miss Stella took one look at her dinner bowl, looked up at me like  & proceeded to remove both egg rings from her dinner bowl before inhaling her tea. Worth a try though. Lucky I didn't try the golf balls in her dinner as some else suggested, she probably would have thrown them at me. Hopefully her new bowl will arrive soon.
-
Glad to hear they work Rebanne. Maybe i should have brought one of these instead of the Eat better ones. Oh well we will see how little miss goes.

Sorry, but that's hilarious !!!! I had a very big belly laugh when reading your post. Smarty pant's aren't they? Have to keep themselves amused at all costs.

So glad I'm not the only one with this problem. My 7 month old BC, just inhales her food I swear, although she is never sick afterwards, burb's alot though & has quite a bit of a 'wind' problem charming !!! when atm I have my inlaws up on hols, she can clear the lounge very quickly she just eats very quickly & always has. That is the main reason why I monitor meal times cause she always finishes hers before my boy finishes his ( Sonny is the slowest eater on the planet) & will then 'help' him eat his, little bugger I have just ordered a Eat Better feed bowl so I'm hoping to improve her eating habits & inturn maybe the other prob's she has will improve as well Will let you know how we go, interested in what other remedies other Dolers have successfully tried.
