freundhund replied to freundhund's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks Darwinroyal I know that the people working on organising the club in the N.T are also going to have a meeting later on in the year in Alice Springs. I really home that the club takes off as it would be really good for the Territory. Cheers Freundhund -
Hi Jose Please contact the GSDC of Victoria, http://www.gsdcv.org.au/node/226 The club has a puppy listings officer who can help you with puppies that are from approved parents. Hope this helps you in your search for a wonderful companion. Regards FH

Endurance Test 2011 Thread

Hi Dotty_17301 A woman after my own heart, being out of condition (read unfit and overweight, at the understatement) This is why I am starting to train now. I promise that I am not training the Diva for the E.T. I am training me. I need to be able to pedal 20 kilometres on grass and other terrain!! I am working on getting up to 25 k's on the bike path and then will gradually start to bike on the grass. I tried biking on the grass and it was really hard, that was when I knew that I wouldn't be able to bike the distance without training me. But it was the kick in the backside to get me motivated to loose weight. Good luck with doing the E.t. -

Hi Murve See earlier in thIS thread. I brought a cross country/mountain bike in Aldi which is working brilliantly for me. Total cost of bike was $79.99. 21 gears If you have an Aldi near you, I would recommed one of their bikes if you only want to E.T. For those interested human undercarriage :D isn't hurting as much on Aldi bike as it has suspension on both ends, plus have put my gel seat on the Aldi bike with a Gel cover and the padded (elegant :D ) bike shorts on and I am finding it not as painful. For those needing the really good laugh, I had a wonderful older gentleman, in his racing lycra ;) Tell me that as I lost weight and learnt to stand up on the peddles, I would find it easier to ride as well. According to him numb bum ;) was caused by sitting on the saddle all the time. :D I got the weight loss hint!!!!! -

About 12 years ago when I did the ET with a friend's GSD, there was a black pug. The pug ran with his handler who jogged the entire distance. (Show off ) Apparently the pug jogged every day with its handler, the handler apparently ran marathons, and took the pug out with him every morning. IMHO the pug was the fittest dog there, in fact it was the one at the end jumping up at dad saying lets go again. Today went well only did a short ride, mainly concentrating on getting the Diva to work slowly alongside the bike. At the moment she wants to go at a million miles an hour. And I am now working on her control. NOTE forgot to put gel seat with its lovely gel cover on the new bike. Now to put gel seat with its gel cover on bike, need all the padding I can get. Also is there anyone available to teach me how to use gears!!! New bike has lovely gears, I just have no idea how to use them -
Some of us actually understand what you are trying to say. I know exactly where you are coming from. The other day I am walking my dog on lead by my bike, I see a X- standard poodle, which starts to come towards me. I turn around and walk the other way. Guy goes off up the hill and dog goes with him, so I keep riding, about 5 minutes later the X-breed races across in front of the bike and starts to play and dominate my girl. I promptly let go of the lead and get of my bike, having hit the brakes I am in a bit of pain due to the bike banging my private parts (swear words). Diva promptly says lets play and lets the dog chase her, then she turned around chased the other dog and bowled it over, no teeth or agression. Guy starts to scream abuse at me!!!! I have the GSD so of course she must be aggressive!!!!!!!!!!! :p He then advises that he will call the police, the ranger etc. I haven't been spoken to by either of these authorities as yet. What annoys me is that he deliberately didn't call his dog back, his dog wasn't on a leash, as soon as I called mine back she came. I go to the bother of spending hours and hours of obedience training my girl, I have spent hours socialising her, she has done nothing wrong as she only bowled the dog in play BUT he was going to make out she and I were in the wrong. I really feel for you, when you have a reactive dog and people don't give you a chance.

Are you looking for Accomodation for the Easter period. The Sydney Royal is on as well as a number of Nationals, so you might find it very hard to find accommodation at that time of year.

Anyone, looking for a cheap bike to train and use for the Endurance Test!!!!!! OH just brought me an Aldi's Lady's Mountain lightbike on Sale for $79.99!!!! ;) Marked down from about $99.99 last week. They have had the bikes in store for a couple of weeks, not sure what the original price was but happy it has come down. :D This bike has 21 gears. Great for someone who hadn't learn't to master the 18 on the old bike The bike is very light. OH put it together, Aldi recommends having it put together by a qualified bike mechanic. (This would have cost about double the cost of the bike, eldest son got his bike serviced a month ago and it cost him $175.00) OH is very mechanically minded and I trust him, he has said once I have ridden the bike for a few days, we might get the bike service. The front wheel has a lever so that it comes of and I can put the bike on the back seat of the car. Also the bike has suspension at both ends, so apparently I will not have such a bruise and sore bottom. Will ride the bike properly next week and let everyone know how I go. Only one problem is the colour its white( not my colour) ;) :p But I am not really complaining. -
I did enjoy this.

Thanks Scales of Justice. I struggled due to the amount of previous discussion pertaining to back lines, on this and every other GSD forum, worldwide.

Hi Shelby What is interesting this year is that the majority of the GSD's shown in the Pastoral group were Specialty style. The dog that one from memory won the English Sieger show. It will be interesting to see if the Specialty style GSD's doing so well at Crufts is a one of, or if this is going to be a continuing trend. Cheers FH

Abbiestar You do realise I haven't even started on the how much extra food should I give Diva questions? But the new stupid question is what sort of stretches??? I have never been told to do stretches before riding a bike! I really need to know as I want to get fit enough to ride the distance. It is very obvious that the Diva is fit enough but I am really going to struggle if I don't have my act in gear. Thanks for all the help so far, I really appreciate it as it is helping to keep me on track. I know the test is in August but that only 4 months away. Cheers -

Michael the cramping apparently won't go. Went to Doctor's had hand and wrist X-rayed the damage to the wrist from when I had the bad bike accident, the bones have knitted but there is still damage. (Can't believe it has been about 6 years. Doctor said if I loose weight it might help the wrist as I was putting a lot of weight on the wrist!!!! I did ask the doctor if he was saying I was fat. :D Well lets be honest I am not doing the ET for the dog, I am doing it to make me exercise more and loose weight....... Today I rode the bike 10 kilometres, the Diva wasn't impressed when I turned around and headed home. When we got back to the car, I couldn't move, she of course was ready to go again. Now how long before the bottom, isn't red anymore, how long before I can sit down comfortably, and how long before I don't feel like an old lady???? Please Michael I need to know. -

Am feeling very brave today. I actually got on and rode the bike that I had my bad accident on. It has been sitting in the garden shed since the accident. OH before he went into hospital put new brakes and gave it a service. The Diva and I did the bike track between Tempe towards Earlwood?Canterbury alongside the Cooks River. If you live around this area and are planning to train for the ET this is a great ride. No dogs leaping out and attacking us, and not many other people using the path at all. Also if anyone is looking for someone to ride with, I would love to meet up. Abbiestar can you tell me why I am getting cramping in my right hand? Any suggestions as to what I can do? It is only when riding the bike. -
Looks like its going to be a great National. Remember you need to get your entry/ies in by Friday. Great to see all the interstate people that are coming. Also heard from the NZer's that there is a large contingent coming as well.

DYSON 2 Gsd's, one bird. So happy 3 years old, barrel type so I can take it out and vaccuum the car. I wouldn't get another brand now.

Could I suggest that you make up flyers, with picture of cute puppy and a parent and a little information. With tear off phone number tabs, and go around all the vets within a reasonable distance and also all the petshops, horse shops and livestock stores in your area and ask if you can put the flyer up. This will sometimes help. Advertising on Gumtree and petlink but emphasis that these are top quality purebreed puppies for the discerning buyer, only suitable to the right homes etc. Even advertising in the Land won't hurt, but you really need to get out and advertise on every medium you can. Even local community radio, if they have a vet spot ring and ask if you can give a talk on pointers and what a great breed they are. You need to market yourself and your dogs, it isn't easy but you will get there. Best wishes for find the perfect home for these puppies.

I also use the Skinless, American Frankfurters, I buy them in packets of 6 at Coles or Woolworths. When I bring them home I cut the sausages up into small pieces, and freeze in individual snap lock bags. I find this way, I can just grab a packet from the freezer.

Hi Meg The Diva is entered in the Royal and the GSD specialty out at Erskine Park. If you let me know what breeds you are interested in I can look up where and what day their specialty is on. Some Specialties will be at Erskind Park, others are at Castle Hill and I think a few others are a little scattered. If you are at the Royal for the GSD's come over and introduce yourself.

Endurance Test 2011 Thread

Okay, well this week, I have had to get back on the bike. (This is the hardest park, I find the bike riding just so scarey) I can't swim Diva for 10 days. I thought I would list my excuses for not training for the last month properly and see if anyone has any better ones. Okay, excuse number one. Husband diagnosed with lung cancer, at the end of January, running him back and forth for all the tests and then having him in hospital made the last few weeks of training a little bit disrupted. NOTE husband is a non-smoker, we have never smoked and his parents were non-smokers. Excuse number two from Wednesday of this week, I could claim that I have stitches in my leg (true x3) because I have been doing lots of swimming to make up for not bike riding. But because I can't swim for the next 10 days until the stitches are out, I am trying to bike. Positive notes, I have learnt how to pump up the bike tyres without husband doing it or without sons to do this. My dad did the tyre pumping up when I was at school <can't find a blushing smilie when I need one> Negative note, the Diva got attacked while we were trying to practise this morning by a white fluffy oodle!!!!!!!!!!!! Nooooooooooooooo Also still looking for a biking partner in the Sydney Metro area.
