  1. hi everyone we have had our dog nearly 4 months, and not long after we got her, she was in season, today i have noticed blood spots on the floor, and yes shes bleeding again. I didnt think she would come into season again so soon? is this normal/common? thanks tracy
  2. hello everyone we havent had our shepherd that long, shes 15 months old, and was wondering how much exercise should she be getting a day? thanks tracy :)
  3. thanks weasels, kerrys pawsitive training is the one recommended to us by the vet. we are new to having a dog, so we just need some direction in where to go with making her feel comfortable and safe. She was fine being outside while we was out up until the weather changed, and it got colder and raining. We tried leaving her indoors, but on one of the days she chewed my couch, i could crate her, but i feel cruel leaving her in there where she cant run around, so being outside is the only other option while we are out. we have a dog door, so she can come in and out as she pleases, but its attatched to the fly screen door, not tha main door, so she cant access it when we are out. thanks :)
  4. im south of the river in baldivis.
  5. thankd for the advice, no we dont leave her outside at all when im home with her, shes outside only when we go out. we have been recommended a dog trainer by our vet, and will be starting next weekend with the dog trainer. thanks :)
  6. hello everyone we have a german shepherd, 15 months old, we have had her about 3 months now. Recently when we are going out, she senses it and wont go outside, she either runs away from me, or rolls over. The only way i can get her out of the door is if i pull her my her collar (which i hate doing, cos it feels like im choking her) or to put her on her lead and take her outside. Its stressful for her and for me. Is there a way we can get over this, cos its really stressing us both out? At the moment most of the time there is someone home with her, but next month i will be going to college 3 days a week, and im a bit worried about leaving her home alone all day, if she still suffering with seperation anxiety thanks tracy
  7. ive tried her a couple of times inside, with main areas apart from the bedrooms, and she has been fine, and not wrecked anything in the house, i left her plently of chew toys, and everything went good. :) thanks for all the advice another bad storm due tomos though in perth
  8. a proper dog door would be good, but im guessing having one cut into the glass will be expensive? shes a german shepherd too so we would need a biggish door, and i worry about someone getting in the house, although i guess they would be pretty stupid with a german shepherd present, i wouldnt want to take my chances against her.
  9. thanks for the advice, im going to leave her indoors, its not fair to leave her outside, there may be a storm today, ill leave the radio on, and lots of chew things and see how she goes :)
  10. we have a dog door, but its attatched the sliding fly screen door, not the main door, so it would mean leaving the door open, and potential for a robber. i have never left her inside before so i really dont know how she would react, she may be fine? i guess i wont know till i try
  11. hello everyone, normally when we go out we leave the dog outside, but at the moment its raining and cold, where does everyone else leave their dog in winter? She has excellent toilet control, she can go hours and hours without going. I would rather leave her in our bedroom with the door shut, she has her bed and crate in there, with some toys, I just dont know if she would chew anything?? any tips/advice thanks tracy
  12. hello everyone, a couple of weeks ago my dog was not eating, turns out she was sick, shes taken all the antiobotics, and is still not eating properly. Is it possible that dogs can turn their nose up at some food, and become fussy. ONly reason im asking is occasionly ill give her a piece of cheese, or meat when im preparing our dinner, and she eats it, and i gave us some of the kids leftover tuna, with her other food, she happily gulped the tuna but left her chicken mince, and advance biccies. Im a bit confused as she has always gulped her food down until recently. AND shes always around us when food is around like she is hungry beacause she hsant eaten her food, any tips/advice or should i take her back to the vet? thanks tracy
  13. thanks for the tips guys, im not that bothered about the pooing, and yes she eats advance biccies, so her poos are nice and solid, hence it doesnt really matter where they are, its just the wees, cos it stains the pavers, and onviously makes them smell. yes maybe i shouldt stress so much, i guess im lucky she is toilet trained and goes outside. i was thinking of buying a tray and put the turf in there, and put it under cover, at least then it wont stain the pavers, and i can easily clean it. thanks :)
  14. hi everyone our dog normally wees n poos on a piece of artificial turf we have round the side but now its raining she's doing it everywhere which is the kids play area n where we sit outside which is goin to smell n unhiegenic. i totally understand why she wouldn't want to toilet in the rain.any simple way to solve this
  15. ok back from vet she has a slightly raised temp n an upper respiratory infection should be ok in a week. thanks for all ur advice :-)
  16. visitors were out all day so couldn't help my tyre is fixed ill be takin her to vet today. im gonna try n feed her something different. she normally has chicken mince n biscuits so im gonna try chicken wings for a change cos she sniff around food all day n will eat a treat if u give it to her. can dogs get bored with the same food. she's been more herself last nite n drank lots.of water. as i have been wo busy with visitors i think she's felt a bit neglected.took her for a walk last nite gave her a long brush n she seemed much happier
  17. i wouldnt have a clue how to change a tyre, its a 4wd and i wouldnt even know how to lift the car up, never mind get the tyre off, my hubby is at work all day, and theres no one around who can help me i just hope shes ok, she looks so sad, and just wants to lie down and sleep all day
  18. ill contact trainer today and rearrange in case she is sick n of all days my bloody car has a flat tyre so i can't get her to the vet today
  19. thanks for ur suggestions. Ive called a dog trainer which has been recommended and hes coming to the house on friday, so hopefully we can see some improvements soon. I did see also outside, shes either been sick, or had sloppy poos, so that could be why she isnt eating properly, if she is like this in a couple of days, i might take her to the vet just to be sure nothing is wrong. thanks again :)
  20. hi everyone we have 2 adults n2 children visiting n my dog is hardly eating. normally she gulps it down. is this normal cos she may feel unsettled. also everytime in the mornin or wen they go out she growls n barks at them. is she just being normal n protective of us.
  21. yes we did and we are totally happy with the dog she's perfect. just not happy with the after service. we know their address so my other half will go n see her with papers that need signing and ask wat vet she went too for vaccination n ill sort the rest thanks for all ur advice
  22. hi everyone we bought our german shepherd around 3 weeks, and shes great and we love her, BUT theres a bit of confusion about what paperwork we should be receiving. The breeder we bought from didnt actually breed the dog, she works with another lady who bred the dog, and gave to her as a present. We asked the lady we bought it from about receiving documents and looking at them and was told the other breeder has it all. I in the end contacted the other breeder, who eventually sent me the certificate of pedigree, and on the other side there was a transfer of ownership (with the canine associaiton in WA) and a fee. I was a bit confused so i called the breeder and asked her about this, and she told me to ring the canine assocaition, which i did and the fee was $32, but as i read the form properly it said you need the previous owners signature on it, so i rang her again, and she told me i dont need to do it, its only for puppies not older dogs. Ive enquired about joining a dogclub too, but dont have her vaccanation details, again contacted the breeder, she cant find them??? said if theres a problem the dogclub can speak to her to clarify this. We previouslt bought another dog ages ago, which we didnt keep, but we rememeber getting a file of documents with the dog. My partner rung the breeder again today, cos we need her signature to transfer the microchip register details to ours, and she got a bit nasty with him, stating that if we arent happy with the dog we can return her. We never said that, we just want to know what documents we are suppose to receive. I thought as a registered breeder she should know all this, and be willing to help us with it. Theres no point in ringing the other lady, who we boguht the dog from, ive contacted her before, and she tells us to ring the other breeder cos she has all the info. Its a bit annoying as we paid a lot of money for her SO i just wanted to ask you what documents we should have received, and does it sound like we are being treated a bit unfairly? thanks tracy
  23. thanks for the advice, shes actually a little older than we thought, only by 2 months, so its her 1st birthday in 8 days. we have just been taking her for a short walk once a day, thats all for now. When she is fully grown ill take her for more walks and start agility then, maybe around 18months. We took her in better pets and gardens and the staff said she looks very healthy, and her waist is only very vey slightly a little bit thin, so im just feeding her the amount the breeder receommended. Shes settling in fantastic and the kids love her, shes a bit smelly so shes getting her first hydrowash tomorrow, that will be fun. tracy :)
  24. I don't drag the crate around either. I wouldn't worry about the table thing. GSD's a quite smart, she would soon learn the differences that she can't be under the table while people are eating there. By the way what's her name? shes called angel, ill get some pics of her up soon , shes sooooo cute and beautiful
  25. my hubby picked her up, and he was a bit rushed for time, but i did ask some questions before we bought her, she said that she only needs walks twice a week at this stage. i think her waist looks a little slim, but maybe im wrong, maybe shes right for her, and we are giving her what food amounts we have been told. im not bothered about her following me everywhere, my kids do that half the time anyway, so an extra one wont make any difference hehe, i just didnt know if it was just because we are new to her and shes getting use to us. She does have a crate she sleeps in, in our bedroom, but its so big and heavy i dont want to keep carting back and forth to the bedroom (maybe im just being lazy), im happy for her to sleep anywhere. I dont mind her sleepin under the table, but its where we eat, so would i be giving her mixed signals letting her sleep under there, but then not allowing her there when we are eating, im guessin it should be one rule, and thats it. shes actually a pretty good dog already overall, and listens to a lot of commands, i just dont like the jumping when shes excited, esp if she jumped up at the kids, she would prob knock them over. thanks again for ur advice, its been very helpful, and ill get a pic on asap :)
