Ok I spoke to the vet and it turns out his is a grade 1. I am going to monitor Bud and see how he goes and am going to get some glucosamine and start him on that to try and prevent him from getting arthritis in his joints. Will keeping a close eye on him when we go for walks to make sure it isn't getting any worse. Thanks again for all the replies.

Thanks for all the replies guys. We took Bud for a walk today and he didn't seem to skip much at all. I only saw him do it once or twice at the begining of the walk and then for the rest of the walk he walked perfectly. Will certainly be keeping a close watch on his walking from now on.

My OH and I went and saw Red Dog today and both loved it. Glad I took the tissues along. Even hubby needed them. Great movie.

Bud is a bit of a fussy eater. He doesn't eat canned dog food anyway. He has raw pet meat (kangaroo, beef, lamb etc) which I mix with a small amount of his kibble (this is the optium brand) and some vegies. He has bones every now and again. He would have cooked chicken breast every night if he could but he gets this ocassionally. He wont eat fish or eggs. Loves cheese and raw carrot. He has a small bowl of kibble out all the time for when he wants something but doesn't always eat from this. What else could I try to add to his diet to help him? The vet didn't really say anything when he said that he had luxating patella. He just told me had it and that was that.

Oh dear I didn't realise that it was probably hurting him Is there anything that would help with the pain?? Other than this he is a happy healthy pup.

My Chihuahua Bud is 15 months old and has been diagnosed with luxating patella. It doesn't seem to bother him. When we go for a walk his does a bit of a skip every now and again. I was wondering if glucosamine would help him and if so how much do I give him. He weighs 2.4kg. I have glucosamine tablets at home which are 1500mg. I have read that other people use the ones for humans but have no idea of the dosage to give him. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Tripped over Bud (Chi) running on the beach. Did my knee and had to be on crutches for a few days and knee banadaged for a few weeks. Knee still hasn't completely healed and this happened in January.

Thanks for your help. Not sure how long we are going to be staying in Melbourne for.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good pet Friendly caravan parks in Melbourne. Looking for one Greensborough side of town if possible. Thanks for your help in advanced

My Chi had sap on one of his legs and I got it off by massaging some of his dog shampoo which contains eucalyptus in it.

We are traveling around OZ in a caravan so I tend to use both lead and collar or harness. Lead and collar get used for those quick toilet breaks and then the harness for a proper walk. I use the harness for walking as we have a Chi (Bud) and their neck/throat is a bit sensitive. He walks fine on either method we use. Everyone has their own preference so what is suitable for some wont be for others. Have a great Xmas everyone!!!!

My Chihuahua pup Bud lost his first tooth last night. I think he was glad when it was out as everytime he tried to eat his dry food it would obviously hurt as he would paw at his mouth. He is growing up to fast. He is 24 weeks old now.
-
Glad you have finally got some good news. Hope Chase continues to get better quickly and you can take him home soon. Wishing you all the best.

Fingers crossed that everything will be ok. I know it's hard but you need to try and get some sleep and look after yourself also. We are all praying that Chase will be ok. Just know that our thoughts are with you.

Our Chihuahua pup Bud gets up once through the night so he can be taken outside. He usually wakes between 5 and 6am for another toilet break but is straight back into bed for some more sleep. He stays in bed while my OH and I get ready for work. Once we are sitting down for brekkie that's when he may decide to get out of bed for a morning cuddle otherwise he stays in bed. Some mornings he goes nuts running around the place but then when it's time for us to go he puts himself back to bed. Sometimes he comes up onto the bed in the mornings and he goes pyscho!!! We will then get up and get ready for work while he goes back to bed and sleeps. Such a hard life being a dog!!!

Hope everything goes well for Chase. Thinking of you and Chase at this time and sending you a lot of healing thoughts.

Hi Marley'z Mum, I have just finished reading all the posts about Marley's desexing. Hope he is feeling better today. We were lucky we didn't need to use a collar on Bud. I couldn't imagine a little Chihuahua with one of those on anyway. It must a pain for the dog when they have to wear them. Hope all is well with Marley. Bud is still running around and happy. It is impossible to keep him calm and quiet. All he wants to do is play. Oh well everything is still okay so that is the main thing.
