Saw My First South African Boerboel Today!
Mason_Gibbs replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in General Dog Discussion
I certainly hope that Australian breeders aren't breeding for this trait. Attacking without warning is not a desirable trait in any dog, especially since these are becoming more popular in suburbia. Remember the dogs in south africa feed off the fear of their owners and will attack because that is their job - if someone is on your property you will not mind your dogs having a go there , my ridgebacks were never trained to dislike strangers but if you put your hands through the gate into our yard they would have a go. I think they are lovely if raised correctly etc. A friend of mine was sitting on the floor petting a boerboel and it then turned and bit her in the face. I myself would not have one though as they are just not for me. -

Saw My First South African Boerboel Today!

I am not sure what they were orginally bred to do but their name means 'farmers' dog so I guess it had to do with protecting livestock on the farm maybe?? Heaps of farmers still have them but mainly to gaurd their farms as they are great guard dogs, they are very silent in their attack they will bite first with no warning. -
Has Zora had many toilet accidents in the house?? Im hoping new boy is a fast learner and picks up toilet training pretty fast

Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You
Mason_Gibbs replied to jess live die's topic in Puppy Chat
How come you didnt get to choose (or the puppy choose you) Mason? There are only 2 yellow males and one will be kept for showing - if none are kept then we can pick. -
IMO i would get her to sleep with the crate door closed and do a 2am or so toilet trip for her. That way you can also watch that she does not eat it. Lots of dogs do this and it can be for a number of reasons but its not something you want to encourage.
