Huski I am not sure if you are on the same planet as me or not but a dog thats allowed to do whatever and whatever it wants ie have no manners is not going to be a dog I would want. Plenty of dogs who have manners do well in obedience anyways. I want a dog I can live with and I am happy with - i dont give 2 hoots if I never win an obedience class but I do care if my dog is thug who jumps on people and knocks people over because he has been allowed to do what he wants. Obedience is giving a dog a set of commands and expecting him to follow them, so I dont see how you would get from a dog with no manners and then expect them to have manners in the obedience ring..... ;) doesnt add up in my books....

My first litter was vaccinated at 8 and 12. I did it at 6 weeks this time because there is a small benefit and I wanted pups to be fully vaccinated at 10 weeks and with a requirement of four weeks between vaccination I had to do it at 6. It is actually possible to wait till 10weeks and just give one nobivac vaccination, which I will be seriously considering with my next litter although it will mean owners have to wait till 10weeks and 3 days to get their pups. I used the Nobivac on my lab at 10 weeks, he had his 6 week shot and the breeder and then I did the Nobivac, so your pups could still go to their families at 8 weeks.

its unusual for a lab to be fussy like that - neither of my 2 are, they will eat anything, even sticks and leaves if I am not careful... maybe get some pet mince and mix it through her meals. I add meat to my pups RC Lab Junior but he will eat it plain as well.

A bit off topic but say a dog is a specific colour, has been genetically tested and does not carry the colour coat that they are, how is this possible? For eg a choc lab only carrying yellow and black or black, I know nothing about genetics so would love to know more.

Do House Alarms Hurt Dogs Ears If They Go Off?

Take your dog to a dermatologist, i have a lab who has allergies to weed pollen, grass pollen, tree pollen, insects, storage mites and dust mites. My boy takes 4 zyrtec a day plus 2,5 mg of pred, before i took him to derm he was in a bad way, now everything is pretty much under control. He is also on desensitization shots every 21 days - im lucky as its spring yet he has yet to have an itchy day, last spring he wS trying to rip his own skin off. Atopic dermatitis is when a dog breathes in pollens etc which it reacts to and they then cause the itch, so sometimes making the dog wear a coat does nothing to help ETA he is also allergic to beef, chicken, wheat, soy abd any grains. Before i saw the derm i swore my dog did nkt have food allergies. He eats mainly raw with a bit of canidae kibble now

Showdog my showing will be for fun but the obedience/retrieving is what i really want to do. I kno nothing about showing so it will be hit or miss for me if i ever even get into the ring, it all seems so daunting.

Do House Alarms Hurt Dogs Ears If They Go Off?
Mason_Gibbs replied to moosepup's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dog hates the smoke alarm going off, I would say it does really hurt his ears -
Me too! My lot seems to grow out of it, so like to enjoy it while they are young. Mason was not so crazy at home but as a pup when I took him out he was very full on, loved other dogs and used to just want to play! :D

Thanks Tapua i will do

Dont wait for oct to start the obedience , start applying the rules now. My new pup has been home a week and he knows the rules already. Give her time out if she acts like that again, put her in the bathroom etc with nothing to do

Mason dug a bit as a puppy but stopped at about 6 months. Knew he would be a digger as the whole litter dug craters at the breeders place .

I am 99% sure Toby would think I was shaping licking walls and start offering that   I bet some dogs do think that, I am trying to remember how I taught SFE but I cant actually remember how I did it
-
I need to get my baby to practice for shows - still not 100% sure what I need to teach beside the nice stand?? Do i need to train him to run nicely  ??
-
Its a really odd way to teach it but a few people at my club took peanut butter, stuck a blob on the wall and while the dog was standing licking it they clicked and treated ( wouldnt work for Mason as he would just carry on licking the wall/fridge)
-
I have an older lab but he was always respectful and just waited for me to say ok

Think i will just bring Gibbs as its hard to keep an eye on 2, Gibbs will need close supervision
