I taught heal position, offered focus ( order a book off Clean Run called the Focussed Puppy) sit, drop, recall, playing with me as a reward, stand, heel forward 5 paces with focus, wait, spin and a few other things. Order the book tho its very good

I never mentioned kicking a dog in the head, suggest you read the posts more carefully. Humping another dog is a very quick way to start a fight and I won't have mine injured just because of a very rude dog. Not to mention 35 kilo's of "puppy" throwing it's self onto another dogs back, head, wherever is not going to help the dog being jumped on. Defence is protecting your dog from another dog's behaviour. Still no need to kick another dog. The OP was just looking for some advice - i agree that the best way to go would maybe be the dog trainer. Do u take your dog to obedience club/classes?? Maybe he wouldnt get so excited if he came in contact with dogs in a controlled environment more often just my opinion.

Im entered tomorrow for Cooverdale and next fri at K9, i may finish work too late to get there in time next fri, had to cancel my shift for tomorrow to make it in time as it is..
-
I am entered next fri but if Mason passes no trial for me next fri as he is in no way shape ir form ready for open. Lots of stuff to train - like dumbell over jump, DOR and some minor other stuff
-
Masons sister is neatly 3 and is still in training as a Guide Dog, some mature slower than others

I disagree - you should have control of your dog by now with recall but labs are hyper excited etc for longer than 17 months... I don't know, while they retain their puppy-like playfulness and enthusiasm, this is not the same as actually being a puppy and having the learning capacity and self control of a puppy. I think at this age, most labs are mature enough to contain themselves and respond to commands. They must have pretty decent self control and focus for orgs such as guide dogs, assist dogs and customs to be expecting them to be working in public at this age... that's true but not all labs have the qualities to become assistance/guide/customs dogs A friend of mine has a lab thats nearly 3... She still acts like a puppy hasnt got any self control as yet - not for a lack of trying on the owners behalf either

I tend to agree with this there are idiot owners out there that dont know a thing so if you take your dogs they will encounter wild out of control dogs - its not right but its part and parcel of dog parks
-
Obviously not right near other dogs i find a quiet spot

I may give Bowen a go for mine too but then they will be getting acupuncture and bowen... Mason probably doesnt need both - Gibbs may tho although he looks 100% im not letting them wrestle and run around like hoons. He went fir his vac yesterday arvo and vet told hubby that if nurses see Gibbs on the schedule for the day they all get excited

Best Place To Buy Quality Id Tags

Cant recommend them highly enough!! -
My desexed male sometimes tries to hump other dogs, but he gets told off and stops as soon as I moan at him IMO desexing did not help at all. If it was me I would get him off the other dog, find somewhere to tie him up at the park and totally ignore him for at least 5 minutes. Buts thats just me..

I trained from day 1 both my Pups...

More On Dogs Knowing Right From Wrong

My Mason feels remorse i can see it on his face ...But then he is more human than dog.. -
Might look at that for Mason - Gibbs has the stomach upset Mason had a few weeks ago or something, he is going fir his vac with hubby at 4 so he will get vet to check him out. He eats anything he picks up at the park ( only walking him on soft surfaces atm) so could also be sn irritation as the other day he pooped out a bunch of sticks/mulch...

I think Louis needs a trip to the acupuncturist Deb
-
Hectic week, im working full day the rest of the week ...
-
Iv never been asked for one... Maybe because with labs they wait till 7 weeks to see which ones will be kept as show pups
-
Sometimes my dog will only lick one of his paws if his allergies are bothering him
-
Could be allergies or a sting ??
-
I was also wary of giving a pup a joint supplement but the vet treating the pup for the injury says its fine
-
Desexing etc is the least expense... Illnesses, operations etc cost a lot more
-
Hmm this is one reason I dont like the idea of deposits on pups ... what if something happens to the pup before you collect it or it develops health issues... I did not pay a deposit on either of mine. If your mum truely does not want to the dog then she should not take it IMO.

Can What A Dog Eats Help Repel Ticks
Mason_Gibbs replied to sheena's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I dont think its an attack, lots of people keep saying the BH seems to repel the ticks, RV is just saying thats not what happened in her experience. I tried heaps of stuff with the horses, only spraying them daily with tick dip helped -
I use Revolution and permoxin daily in summer for the bad flys we have here, they annoy my dogs
