First Time Taking My Gr To A Park
Mason_Gibbs replied to jamesn184's topic in General Dog Discussion
You said it was the first time you had taken the pup to a park? Was it the first time it had encountered an off leash dog in a public place?? Hate to say it but you will have many more experiences like this, that's parks for you. Pups need to get out and about to meet all other breeds before 19 weeks -
Very very windy here today!!

I freeze water in empty ice cream containers, I put a bit of mince or cheese in too, keeps mine busy for hours they love chewing it
-
Yes I know the feeling CC Trying to not let Gibbs overdue it either, I have alo laid none slip matting over all my wood laminate and I think it's helped too. Also swimming him every 2nd day

I know how hard it is Ness gibbs has been limp free for a week now, lets hope it continues...

It's going to be a Cocker (our pup) with Hungarian Viszlas. One is 15 and has had several litters where she was a brilliant mother. So i am expecting her to be ok. The other is her son who is far more energetic and younger. Should be interesting. But small controlled doses are the plan. Just watch the 1 that's had pups before, I know some bitches who are great with their own pups but not that tolerant of those that don't belong to them

It was so hard keeping Gibbs still, I am still trying to make him take it easy, no limping for a week now

this is true Weims of course were bred for a different purpose also and their structure shows that, compared to labs. Personally I think that it does depend very much on the build and endurance level of the individual dog... Old english Sheepdogs are meant to be an endurance breed, but I know of certain OES that couldn't manage it, and others that definitely could (this is without coat btw, i'd never make a full coated OES do an ET!) My father used to run marathons ( 42.2km) and he took his Wei on the 32km training runs every second week, the did 10 ks every other day at least, he was one fit dog, not sure if they had the ET back in the 70s and 80s though!! Not surprising at all!! I know a guy with a weim in WA who does marathons also... his wei is his running partner. he recently had a cartilage op (the guy, not the dog) and is out of running for at least 12 months. Up to that point he couldn't keep any weight on his dog, and now his dog is rather... pudgy!! I'm battling to keep weight off mason even feeding less .....

Does he do it when ge is excited? My pup will run tracking up when he is not excited but when he gets excited still runs skew at nearly 5 months - has seen a chiro but still does when excited

Yeah some dogs are not fans of heat, my 2 both hate it but labs originating from a cold climate naturally would!. There is a guy around here that bikes with his ridgy x and that dog looks pretty comtortable next to the bike even though its large breed but not a very heavy set dog.

And you can get it from Midland Pets and Aquarium you just phone and they order it in.

Tiggy i know 2 lady who's staffys are on it and she is happy - its Raffikki

Well retrieving work for labs would never be 12 km's and they were bred to retrieve mainly from water not on the land.... I just worry about joints, i mean runners wear out their knees running so im not sure i would do it with my 2. Everybody is different and we all have our own thoughts but i just personally wouldnt do it with my 2. There is no reason why Mason couldnt do it if not fit enough but he is too heavily built i think. Weims even tho they are large breed they are not big boned or big built. They are quite athletic looking imo

Hope Ari is ok ST big hugs for her and pls post back and let us know what's happening I won't do ET with either of mine, even of I could physically do it myself i think it's just too taxing on the body for large breed dogs but that's just my opinion...

Glad Rosie is on the mend and Ness that sounds like a very interesting procedure when are you having it done?? Good news here, haven't seen Gibbs limp since Saturday so pretty happy, he is sometimes a little stiff for 2 or 3 steps after his naps in the evenings but I'm glad he has improved, hope it stays this way

If I could get Mason to hold I'm 100% sure you can get Lulu to do it too!! -
I have it will pm it to you!!

I took my pup to friends houses where there was vaccinated dogs, best way to socialize IMO as you know they dogs and it's not as if 100's of dogs pass through there like at a dog park.

How To Minimise A Puppy Chewing On An Older Dogs Neck When Playing
Mason_Gibbs replied to Huntia's topic in Puppy Chat
My pup did this a lot and I was so worried as my older boy ( who is nearly 3) tends to get hotspots on his neck, well for whatever reason he has never had a hotspot since the pup got here and I would say about 3 or 4 weeks ago my pup stopped pulling on his neck....no idea why he stopped, maybe Mason told him off or something -
I did mine through Snapfish this year but I chose Xmas cards and all I got was my photo and seasons greetings printed at the bottom it was one page not an actual folded card, if you want cards through them you need to order greeting cards! Big W had a special on for personalized cards, maybe check their site

It concerns me for my pup so I don't feed it but when he is older I will. Also my dog eats like 1/4 cup a day and then raw so I'm just using it to make up the vitamins etc he could be lacking from the way I feed
