Teaching Back End Awareness
Mason_Gibbs replied to Mason_Gibbs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Good suggestion, SecretKei. I use the NRM throughout my boy's training and both he and I find it very helpful. Yes I use 'too bad' - when I say this he just then carries on sitting but then stares down at the floor. -
Bulk order sounds good Ptolomy Tiggy - dont worry about Pea having pink stuff, I would LOVE Mason to have a few pink things but OH forbids it :D Is he arriving on Monday?

Sorry for your loss Tiggy, I can only imagine how you must be feeling.

Teaching Back End Awareness

Mason used to do that with his spinning trick, if I had food and he was very happy he spins and spins in case I would treat him lol. -

At least Millie offers something, Mason expects treats from just sitting and looking at me because focus was such an issue in his younger days that he now sits and stares often when I am trying to teach something new - and I know that its my fault because I wanted him to focus on me and now I have it lol! I will try luring it a bit and see what happens. -

Great job! Good on you!!! It's in Midland isn't it? I had a client who does that same job. Like the sound of your boss too - sounds like she has excellent taste in dogs :( Yes it is literally 10 mins max from home! (Can anyone tell how excited I am about that- since I have to travel close to 1.5hars total between my front door and my current works front door!) Yeah she already calls me a "retriever person" Thats so great - I hate travelling hours to get to work!
-
Funny you should say that, I got mine some from the vets the other day and they are odd with them They'll ignore them for most of the day, but then suddenly start pouncing on them and flinging them round like a cat with a mouse.....this lasts for about 1min and then they'll go back to ignoring them Video lol

Thanks Amy :p ST wants to watch some novice jumping Also does anyone's dog eat cow hooves? I brought a bag of them for my dogs and Lincoln is terrified of them He peed himself when I got one out the bag and spent the rest of the afternoon slinking around with his tail between his legs until I put them in the shed My ridgebacks back in RSA loved them!! I have not tried one for Mason as he is allergic to beef so I am not sure if the hoof would be a problem too??

Teaching Back End Awareness

I will try the phone book as it is a lot bigger, Mason is pretty big and he would have to concentrate very hard to get both paws on the size book I am using,. -
Teaching Back End Awareness

I have tried luring, but I cant get the other front paw on the book at the same time, what he does it comes up to the book, sits and puts one paw on the book and then stares at me, he is so used to getting treated for sitting and staring at me that he is a bit unwilling to offer up different behaviours at the moment. Edited to add that he is very keen to sit with the paw on book, he is not that keen to stand for some reason or the other - hmmm weirdo dog! -
Lucky you Huga!! :p must admit I am having a lot of fun with my Canon 450D at the moment, its not top of the range but its been great for helping me learn, in 2,5 weeks I can see the diff in my photography already.

I have seen a few people use this method to teach back end awareness, I have been attempting to do it and I am a bit clueless on how to get my dog to put both paws on the book, he always only does one! I started by clicking and treating if he came near the book, then clicked and treated for one paw but he has not offered to put the 2nd paw on yet. I have waited him out but he will just sit and stare at me for hours! Any advice appreciated.

Metal Or Soft Crate? I Can't Decide
Mason_Gibbs replied to Bundyburger's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lol I am so lucky that my dog does not break stuff, his old crate has been outside for the cats for ages and he has not chewed or broken it at all - cats have done the most damage by laying on the top - Socks weighs 8Kg which is a tad bit too heavy for the poor crate roof -
Metal Or Soft Crate? I Can't Decide
Mason_Gibbs replied to Bundyburger's topic in General Dog Discussion
I love soft crates, metal ones are too heavy to slide behind my front seats of the car and I just dont like such heavy things, I have a big dog and a crate for his size weighs 30Kg or something silly in metal. -
Lets put forward the motion to get rid of the group stays in the next rule changes I'm nervous about stays to Now that I have mainly fixed my laying down in the sit stay I am pretty much not fussed about stays at this stage - its the heelwork that freaks me out. If our heelwork was better I would say that we are ready to trial as most of our other stuff like positions etc are ok but its the heelwork I need to work on.
-
Yep not many people are taking advantage of it but you sure can - its half the normal entry fee I must remember that one can do this

Well we have a month to figure it out ;) Taking one car sounds more sensible than us all driving that distance! wanna pick me up too on ur way thru LOL! Sure why not Are you taking any dogs? I have to admit that unless I had no other choice horse is not on the menu at my house either... the dogs might get the wrong idea and start self serving The reason I dont buy it is because horses have been vaccinated and medicated, not sure I want all that in my dogs system. I have no issue with horses who have been euthanased being fed to other animals if they are old or lame etc but I just wonder how they treat them at the slaughter houses too.
