  1. Whatever it was he seems fine now , just a little tired
  2. Not sure what Mason's issue was last night but he could not settle, he paced around the bedroom for ages, I then took him outside 4x between 11 and 5 because he just seemed unsettled and we did not know what was wrong. He also did shocking work at training last night ( obedience) although he did do 3 great retrieves.
  3. Ptolomy Lara sounds so sweet - I love it when people take the time to still do stuff with their oldies
  4. Yip anything is possible, but I saw how my soft personality ruined my ridgeback who was more dog than i could handle and I really do not want to ruin a beautiful, lovely dog. I am just a soft person, Mason is a soft dog and we have a soft hearted cat we are a family of softies and I know I would need to be more firm with Chance and it is not in my nature. Edited to add that we are soso lucky with Mason he is the perfect fit, I chose him but his breeder assured me that he was submissive and that he would be the right fit for me and he has been 100% perfect. If I say no to Mason he hides in the corner - hates being roused on and hates disappointing us.
  5. A day is more then long enough for Mason to be bullied. You did the right thing Mas and I am sure the breeder will find another home that's a better fit. Well I have to agree to disagree from my oewn experience it took longer but everyone has there own threshold ( I am known as a tough old cow!!) and proud of that but then again with my breed one must be ! lol I'm just like you Wazzat but I do understand that not everyone is the same. It comes down to a lot of things, personality of people and dogs as well as tolerance levels. We all live and learn! Maybe my expirences the last 12 months have changed me I don't think I would allow a submissive non-confrontational dog to be bullied by a dog I had on trial so I am probably softer then you two. If the dog is pinning the other dog to the ground and snapping at it day one and affecting his life to the point of misery and physical stress unless there was some reason I could not simply give the dog back there is no way I would persevere. Especially if it was causing confrontation within my family. My dog was bullied and it took a behaviourist and blood drawn (both human and canine) for me to realise enough is enough (and that WAS with behaviourist intervention and consultation with the breeder) although it broke my heart I rehomed him and now everyone both canine in human is in much better enviroments and enjoying life more. I was in touch with someone who knows a lot more than me yesterday before I gave the dog back and it would take some help from a behvaiourist to get the 2 dogs to live together happily plus i would need to possibly keep them seperate when I go out forever due to Mason being so submissive. Due to me starting a new job and working longish hours on the days I do work one dog being inside for all that time would not be fair ( and it would have to be Mason as he wont destroy anything). Plus she pointed out the stress impact on Masons allergies ( had not thought about this) and true as anything he has hot spots today. In all honesty I would not take a re-home again as I have no experience in this area I have only had dogs from pups. Also my husband hated the dog from the moment it had a go at Mason and he has a really short temper and he is very stubborn and refused to forgive the dog after that. There were a lot of tears etc yesterday but i truely believe I did the right thing by my dog.
  6. We will maybe look at getting another dog if we do next year or the year after but certainly not at this point
  7. He will probably be fine with another dog, the problem is mason is very very soft so any dog i get is likely to be the boss. I will probably end up keeping him as an only dog i think. He was stressed out on the weekend and has ended up with hotspots, never knew allergies can be affected by stress. Poor Mason Hope his hotspots are better soon.....Zola doesnt handle stress very well either M2009, and her tummy gets very upset if stressed at all....This can be from a vet visit, me being away for a couple of days or her being at the kennels, even just overnight! Stress can cause all sorts of troubles in a stressy dog poor buggers! I hope Chance finds the right home, where he can be trained to be a well mannered & behaved beasty!! Is Mason ok other than his hotspots????? Yeah he is good.

  9. I was so sorry that I missed out on yesterdays training but we will be there next week. I have also been told that me holding my hands out to Mason is the cause of his dropping so I try not do it anymore but it has become a habit
  10. I don't want to sound horrible but are you sure you want to keep an allergic dog? Owning one with severe allergic skin disease is expensive and an emotional journey, the dogs do suffer and the ones that have no choice but to live on medication don't always have the most awesome times....competing in performance sports can be done but if the dog has a flare up which they often do you can be waiting months for them to recover sometimes....their mental state isn't always the best either when they feel absolute crap due to their condition. If you do decide to kudos to you Get in to see the Derm asap I'm a vet student and I've seen lots of allergy dogs during my time as a vet nurse. I wouldn't say Mindy's allergies are severe (yet). They are seasonal and can be managed with antihistamines and occasional antibiotics if there is secondary infection. She hasn't been on any meds for around a month now and has had no infections or severe itchiness, even though it is still quite hot. Guide dogs thinks that her allergies are probably seasonal and will require some management but they aren't really that severe (she's never even had a hot spot). Its just that they can't really afford to train any dog that may have a medical issue as the dogs are meant to be looking after the clients, not the other way round! Of course, i will be taking her to see a specialist to determine what allergies she has and how severe they may be, but i think if I (as a vet student and future vet) can't manage her allergies, then it would be pretty tough to ask someone else to take her on. You will manage her condition just fine, you will see when you go see the derm you will have heaps to do and give etc but it all falls into place and works out. I do a bit of obedience with my allergy dog, it is tough but it can be done!!
  11. He is not too too bad dont get me wrong someone with more experience will be able to handle him better than me - there was also a personality clash between him and my husband who just has no patience for him after he went for Mason. I have never had a dog not from a pup and it is way way harder than i thought it would be, someone who has done it before will have no issues re-training him. He needs socialisation and heaps of training, in a working home, he has 10x more drive than Mason.Willbe a great sporting dog.
  12. No I will only get another dog again when Mason is too old to compete
  13. Yes he has not slept although he did go better when i put him outside but poor mason is scared of him now and his legs even shake at times. He is a sweet dog and loves people but is very stubborn. He would need a home where the people can sort out his aggression/ dominance and know how to help dogs who have been left outside and not really trained very much. I will be honest and say he is more than i can cope with as even my da dog did not ignore me. Im actually wondering if he is deaf or something
  14. I am not worried about all the other stuff except he humps Mason and while he is doing it he growls too.... Poor Mason is real scared of him now as he is such a girl...
  15. Chance is home but we are having some teething problems and it does not help that OH is not patient with him at all. He seems to be trying to dominate Mason and he does not know how to play nicely as he has never been socialized. He is crying when he cannot see one of us humans - he is like a real baby even though he is 7 months old. He also steals stuff off counters when I al trying to cook etc!! Very stubborn too, if you pull his collar he just sits down.
  16. I'm sorry for Mindy that she has allergies but I know you will do your best to help her
  17. Know how you feel, Mason is my heart dog and it will take a pretty special dog to top him in my books
  18. We will see how it goes, we only meeting later this arvo. When I picked Mason I chose him as he kept bringing me sticks, leaves and toys, he seemed to be a natural at carrying things in his mouth
  19. Great news!! I am sure u will pass with flying colours!
  20. He is a golden retriever he is the darker colour one
  21. I am really looking forward to tomorrow. Mason will love him, I just have to see how keen he will be to love Mason! Sure he is going to be great and I am really happy that we can offer him a home
  22. My lab does not like gunshots and he drops things.... trying to retrain him
  23. Most important thing for me is that he gets along wuth the other dog and then 2nd important is obedience to me. Would like to do retrieving but i dont know how much time i will get to train it with new job. But yeah obedience is the thing i enjoy most.
  24. Huski we wont be meeting him at his home, going to an unfamiliar park . Thought it be best for him and mason to meet somewhere new to them.
