Yip thats what I mean CCD and CD are the easy rounds, it gets way harder after that with heaps more work to be done. There will be a +- 3 year age gap between the 2 if I did get a pup. I also dont want to not have a dog to trial when Mason is old but saying that I could wait, get a dog when mason is 4 and the younger dog could still pass before him as these things do happen and life sometimes does not play along with our plans

Heard of a litter last night that i may be keen on if the bitch is pregnant will need to have a think as mason is nearly done with CCD which means i really need to get cracking and work on open exercises
-
Hugs Emery - he may just be having a bad day tho ...

I will only start looking at the end of the year. I broke my ridgies, bkth were very anxious dogs and i think a lot of the one's aggression was fear aggression. So far the only animals i have been successful with was my horse who was starved and abused before i got him and mason has been a pleasure to raise and train took me 4 years to get the horse to trust me tho lol

I have the opposite, mason will do anything for food... Toys he will take or leave but he lives for food
-
I have seen a few dogs and cats PTS with nothing going wrong butvi have seen a horse get half a shot and knock a vet out during the procedure which was awful for the poor owner.

Aww he looks so sweet mason was crazy as a pup, i think i killed his drive by working on him being too calm. He was like a hyperactive kid with ADD he used to jump up on the lounge and zoom from 1 end to the other so fast we could nit catch him - he used to get time outs as he was craaaazy.
-
I have tried with mason to make him work stuff out with all our training and he loves thinking for himself. I try not to bribe where possible
-
Which obedience trial are u doing ?? Umm I think it is the Northern Suburbs one, it is the Sunday after the ET trial anyway at Carine Open space or something similar. thats my club, we will be there
-
I dont really know your dogs that well P but I just love Strauss he is just lovely. I would say that i have not trained mason in a way that makes him very driven but yet i seem to be getting very consistent rounds out of him so far for CCD. Will he be able to do a UD Round where he will need more drive ... I am not sure
-
I will only compete in obedience and maybe do some agilty for fun, i cant get over the dead birds and camping that retrieving requires lol . I want another lab - i just love them
-
I should have been a bit clearer in my first post - i also want the 2nd dog to compete in obedience with ;) not just for Mason. Would only be looking at getting the new pup nov/ dec this year or early next year. Bedazzled i have thought about the drive issue and while mas will always be my special dog I dont think he has the drive to go higher than open in obedience. He could prove me wrong tho as i am no expert Eta - is drive something that runs in certain lines or how does it work exactly???

it is all about finding a pup that meets your needs. perhaps with a pup, Mason can teach it the routes, put it into place, where he didnt know how to with an older - more out of control pup... Do you know anyone with a young pup, that you could borrow and see his interaction? Oh an I think its a great idea too ;) Our friends have a small mixed breed pup that he plays with and he seems to be the boss in that relationship but he is tiny. Next weekend he is staying with us and in july for 2 weeks so maybe i should see how that goes ...

Need some advice. After our experience with the goldie that didnt work out i was adament that i would not grt another dog. After seeing mason moping around the house again i think he could be lonely, so now i am starting to think that maybe getting a pup at the beginning of next year may be a good option. I would go for a female this time and get the breeder to give me a dog who they think will fit into our family. Thoughts??

Chronic Unknown Skin Condition - Desperate
Mason_Gibbs replied to pixandpug's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am so sorry i know it must be tough and unexpected. -
If it comes back i will get it done . Toe is quite sore tonight!! Im wanting to wait until I am on Medicare and have private medical as my current migrant medical wont cover it and its $350 per toe. I need big toe and the 1 next to it done.
-
I was spared the horror of having my toenail removed today - podiatrist took a scalpal and dug shards of nail out from the skin and pushed the skin back a bit. If the swelling etc comes back i need to have 1 side of the nail removed.
