  1. I paid $2800 for Gibbs surgery but it was a big op, they removed a section of his ulna( to shorten it) and then cleaned up inside his elbow joint. Their prices regarding X-rays, medications etc have been the same price as my vet so far, sometimes less. RosieFT was quoted $1000 at her vet for X-rays , Rivergum wanted around $400 so IMO I think they are actually reasonable. Not sure about the consult, we were referred because it was a complex surgery but to be honest I wouldn't let a normal vet perform ortho surgery on my dog even if it was simple as the surgeons are just so much more talented in that department. I know money is always an issue, I stressed about how to pay for Gibbs and ended up increasing my credit card limit as it was maxed out as it is.
  2. When we did our elimination diet as instructed by the dermatologist we could use, sweet potato or pumpkin and one novel protein, we used roo. Added the VAN mix in will be a disasterous it has so many ingredients your dog could react to without you knowing.
  3. Nic did u go and see a specialist? I remember you thinking about it awhile back.
  4. My 2 are just over 2 years in age gap, is a pretty good gap they play loads together but I know one day I'm going to have 2 old dogs
  5. I'm with Petplan and while they do take awhile to reimburse I know that my money will eventually arrived. My pup had a tooth abscess during his 6 week free period and they paid out no probs, I had an issue with his leg issue but that's coz the vet nurse wrote limp started at 8 weeks instead of approximately 8 weeks 4 days, so they wanted to class it as pre existing but after I wrote a letter and my vet did the same they paid out... Lucky as it turned out to be elbow dysplasia and my dog needed a very expensive surgery to clean up the joint and remove a section of his ulna, as well as follow up X-rays etc. everything has been paid for in fll minus my $100 excess
  6. Dermatologists are good with food intolerances, my dog has food allergies so I know how u feel
  7. Yup im interested, my dog has had a session before :)
  8. I use a prong head halter on my young lab i can walk him alone on a collar but his pulling gets too much if i walk both my dogs together. I find it the best out of all the head halters ETA it's a Sporn Pack Leader head halter, long day lol
  9. I would go ahead with the consult at least u will know more.
  10. Gibbs is up to 25 min walks 2 x a day, no limp, I'm really really pleased!!
  11. They ripping you off, even when Gibbs had 2 teeth removed at my local vet plus numerous X-rays from paw to shoulder all diff positions it cost me under $600 and Rivergum were $397 for X-rays and anaesthetic and he weighs around 29 kgs.
  12. The reason I myself don't use Applecross is that they hardly refer people for ortho problems to ortho surgeons and IMO specialists are specialists for a reason. Masons brothers family also recently had a issue there ( it's since Stevd started teaching more or something).
  13. Rivergum charged me $450 for digital xrays for Gibbs with aneasthetic he is 28kgs! Phone Rivergum and ask them to help u out im sure they will see her with no consult if ur ver is being a pia!!
  14. Yes my allergy dogs takes 2,5mg of cortisone a day, and while I don't like it I have just come to accept it as his life is miserable without it. He is on desensitization shots and they are slowly helping :) looks like my puppy may need bee and wasp desensitization and now that costs a wack!! Over $2000 for the testing and then $150 for 19 weeks and one injection a month. Almost unaffordable
  15. I was maybe going to come watch will see how the week pans out.
  16. Gibbs got stung right before it started and I had to rush him to Osborne Park so Mason missed out
  17. I know where there are some beautiful Golden Retriever puppies RS. Only 12 days old ATM. I can just see you with a Goldy !!! Lol she did say maybe the next dog wouldn't be a lab..... Even with my bad luck I couldn't picture not having a lab again I just wuv them :)
  18. The specialist works out the same price for X-rays etc I paid $400 for anaesthetic and X-rays at my local vet, Rivergum charged me the same. Rosie would be less coz of her size.
  19. Gibbs gave us a scare today, hubby was walking him around before Masons retrieving test and he said Gibbs suddenly did a funny jump and then suddenly did diarrhoa and threw up and went all ethargic. I checked his gums and very pale so off to PVE. By this stage I was thinking snake bite or maybe intestinal blockage. Turns out he had been stung by a bee on his paw and he had a bad reaction. So we now know he is allergic to bee stings!! Very scary morning!
  20. I would just ask for a Referral to Rivergum, it could cost you more at a regular vet coz they could take longer to find the issue. Been through similar with Gibbs and I'm sorry I never saw the ortho specialist sooner as there would have been less damage. Can't recommend Tom Hill highly enough. ETA Applecross isn't bad with prices but Steve who is ther really good vet with lameness etc I hear is taking a backseat he is doing more teaching I believe.
