What size dog? I got a table yesterday with amounts on from my dermatologist.
-
Aussielover he has a funny tummy very often and licks his paws so we trying to rule food allergies out
-
He has had a lot of the meats my older dog ( who has allergies) has had so horse or emu or rabbit were our choice. I can get horse meat very easily. It's not a problem as we have our own drying box for meat but in the rain it's hard to get the meat to dry. Hubby will try dry some in the oven today for a quick fox and we will use our box when it stops raining.

Does anyone know where i can buy/order dried horse treats from ? My dog is on an elimination diet
-
Yeah it can be an inconvenience. Tomorrow is week 11 of 19 weeks so we are past the halfway mark, hip-hip-hooray! I am lucky I can work from home on Fridays and Murdoch is only 20 minutes away. Saves me dropping her off before work, making me late, then picking her up at the end of the day. This way she is only there for a couple of hours. It does eat into my day though but is a small price to pay! (well, the time/inconvenience factor I mean, not the $$ price tag ) Sorry to hear Gibbs has other allergy issues, too I could never get down there before work lol, will see how it all pans out and may do the tests later in the year and then do therapy next year. 1 issue per year i will try sort lol

Yes that's what a nurse at our vet clinic says, her one dog sees Mandy too and has other issues as well. I'm really lucky tho that hs elbow has healed so well

Allergy Elimination Diet -is Barf Roo Acceptable?
Mason_Gibbs replied to booge's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm busy doing an elimination diet with my youngest, I'm doing horse and pumpkin. -
Ptolomy those pups just sound Devine :) real little rascals ;) Love my 2 boys but no more labs for me I think, I know 2 more people with 2 dogs each and both the dogs in each family have allergies. So at least I'm not the unluckiest person.... But I guess their dogs don't have ED on top of it so maybe I am lol

Yes I will consider it if this doesn't work but after doing the horse only Dr M also wants us to try psyllium and slippery elm to both dogs diets.
-
Wow MG you won the lottery, didn't you and I thought my kids had it all! Can your local vet do the testing???? No the bee and wasp testing is very specialised, Mandy is one of the few dermatologists in the country that does it. The stomach issues are the worst atm, after eating horse for 6 weeks it isnt better he may need the gastroentarologist ( sp??) he is a bit itchy but nothing on masons scale. We will take it one step at a time i guess its all we can do...
-
I dont know im a bit stuffed as its really very far to drive to Murdoch 2x a day 1 day a week for 16 weeks. When he is finished with Rivergum for his leg we will look at testing. He has so many probs tho where do i draw the line and stop?? He has stomach issues which may or may not be food related, bee allergies, potential atopic dermatitis and his elbow dysplasia...

Yeah Gibbs goes into shock but he recovered very quickly which is good but Dr M stikl recommend the venom immunotherapy

Dog Allergy Vet Disappointment Again!
Mason_Gibbs replied to booge's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have heard of bad experiences when doing this. Personally I wouldn't risk it. Allergies are extremely frustrating for vets and owners to deal with Special diets are generally only useful for food allergic dogs. Desensitization injections reduce itchiness in up to 70% of dogs that go thru the process. Unfortunately they don't help in around 30% of cases. It is extremely rare they completely resolve the problem though. Cyclosporin and Pred are options for management of severe cases. They can greatly improve quality of life as stormie has said. For less severe cases, anti histamines and topical steroid creams/sprays can help manage allergic dogs. My own dog is moderately to badly affected by atopic dermatitis. She is allergic to pollens, grasses and dust (so basically to life!). She is currently managed with twice daily anti histamines, topical creams and desensitization injections although she remains moderately itchy but less so than previously. Unfortunately she reacts quite badly to pred (lethargy, polyphagia) so I prefer to keep her off it. We will re evaulate her for cyclosporine once she has finished the course of desensitization injections. Doing all the same with Mason but he gets 5mg pred daily or every second day, he is also badly affected hence the low dose. I hate giving it to him but without it some days would be horrible for him -
Luxating Patella Issue (updated 7 Weeks Post Surgery)
Mason_Gibbs replied to ness's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Go and see the specialist, get their opinion and then decide :) Tom wasn't at all pushy with us for surgery and actually said he could just X-ray him and then do surgery at a later stage but we knew he was going to ultimately have to have surgery tho so I just did X-rays and surgery on the same day, but elbow dysplasia and luxating patellas at very different, he may say surgery isn't needed etc -
Lol I'm taking a road trip with my camera to Preston beach on Saturday :)

Was Ian the judge?? Iain's first judging appointment is next Sunday. And yes we did have a good chuckle at Ruby making up her mind which was the best spot to get in the water. Who was the judge???
