  1. Thanx Mooper & jls. We're now discussing a call to the breeder to see if she has any pups. I just have to wait a liittle longer so I don't cry when I tell her what happened to Andy. We know we can't replace him, but another dog will help fill the void. Otherwise, it's just me and the Mrs. And that's just... Bonz
  2. Hi bennie! Good to see you join this fine doggy forum. The DOL'ers will enjoy talking to you. Especially since your dogs are working dogs. I know you'll keep them laughing here. I won't be around much for awhile. (Just here now for this thread.) I hope to be back in the near future. Mrs. B & I know we can't replace Andy, but a new puppy will help us recover from his passing. Until I have new pics to post... Bonz
  3. Thanx for the condolences. I've always stayed away from visiting the Rainbow Bridge because it made me cry too much. Now, I'm here because I have to be. Mrs. B and I ain't handling this very well! Bonz
  4. Andy, our 3½ year old Cocker Spaniel, was hit by a car while I was walking him this past Saturday night. It happened on our way home from the local park. He would always stay "at heel" until I'd give him the release command to run around (on a 16' retractable leash). He was trained not to go off the curb without me. There is a large patch of grass just a 100' from my house, so I gave him a release. For some reason, he decided to go into the street and bark at a passing car. (Something he never did before.) He hit the side of the car, and I thought the worst would be a broken hind leg. There was no external bleeding. It being a Saturday night, the only place I could take him was the Univ. of PA Vet Hospital, a ½hour away. He died in my lap on the way; I guess from internal injuries/bleeding. RIP Andy. We loved you so much. Bonz
  5. Mine gets a bath every 3-4 months when he goes to the groomer. I do have to wash his jowls & the tips of his ears often though. His jowls get a little stiff from eating & his ears from dragging on the ground. Bonz
  6. Sometimes, I put a small dog biscuit in my mouth (just hold it w/my lips). But it's more for fun/bonding than training.
  7. What size fish oil capsule would be recommended for a 30 pound cocker spaniel? And how often? Thanx. Bonz
  8. Has anyone ever heard of/seen him on the National Geographic Channel? I have just learned of him, and am very impressed. http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/chan...erer/cesar.html
  9. Andy gets an egg once a week. Usually a loosely scrambled egg. His favorite is soft-boiled with a slice of toast in it!
  10. Other. Precise Foundation: /http://www.precisepet.com/dogadult.asp Andy is on a 95% kibble diet.
  11. Left, when at heel; anywhere, when "free" with his 26' retractable leash. Bonz
  12. What would the vinegar/water mix for the ears be? Thanx. Bonz
  13. My dog, Andy always had a stinky mouth. I washed his face with apple cider vinegar Sunday night and he still smells clean. I'm gonna try the parsely too. Bonz
  14. I use Nutro, Natural Choice, Training Bits. (broken into 4 pcs.) They smell strong. Andy loves them. Bonz
  15. Just so long as he leaves the seat down for the Mrs... Bonz
  16. Steve - The store, of course, sells the canned too; but the owner said canned is no good. I just started with the dry Foundation Formula: Foundation Formula Dry Food Analysis: Crude Protein (min) 24.00%; Crude Fat (min) 14.00%; Crude Fiber (max) 3.50%; Moisture (max) 10.00%; Calcium (min) 1.10%; Phosphorus (min) 0.90%; Omega-6 Fatty Acids (min) 2.56%; Omega-3 Fatty Acids (min) 0.43%; Vitamin C (min) 25 mg/lb Dry Food Ingredients: Chicken Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Ground Whole Wheat, Ground Yellow Corn, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbyl Palmitate), Rice Bran, Corn Gluten Meal, Flaxseed, Lecithin, Natural Chicken Flavor, Brewers Dried Yeast, Salt, Dried Cheese, Dicalcium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Biotin, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (B6), Thiamine Mononitrate (B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, DL-Methionine, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Folic Acid, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate.< "Chicken meal made from whole chicken meat" with a Crude Protein (min) 24.00%. That seems good to me. Watta you think? Bonz EDIT: About PRECISE! All PRECISE foods are natural. We are passionately committed to natural nutrition. Our dry formulas are preserved with the antioxidants vitamin C (Ascorbyl Palmitate) and vitamin E (mixed Tocopherols). Our unique preservation system works so effectively that, even in the dog days of summer, you don't need artificial chemical preservatives in your dog's food. No Ethoxyquin, no BHA, no BHT... isn't that wonderful! PRECISE uses only real meat protein. The meat protein we use comes from the part of the chicken or lamb that you would eat yourself. On the label it is called chicken or lamb meal. We have poultry fat in all our formulas. Poultry fat converts most efficiently into energy, is great for the skin and coat, and makes our foods delicious for the most finicky eater. And, because there are no allergens in pure, clarified fat, we can have poultry fat in our lamb and rice Sensicare Formula®. PRECISE adds the extras! That's why we use whole, more expensive but more digestible grains as our source of carbohydrates. We also add more potent Ester-C® brand of vitamin C to strengthen the immune system and chelated minerals which are more absorbable than ordinary minerals. Finally, we add lecithin to all our formulas. Lecithin is an important source of fatty acids, and it's great for skin and coat conditioning. But it's expensive and many brands don't have it. Bonz
  17. Precise dog food was recommended to me today and I got a free 6.6lb. bag. Made with chicken meat and natural preservatives. It's more money than the Nutro Natural Choice I was considering, but the feeding amount is less than half. Only 1 cup a day for Andy's 25lbs. Precise Foundation Formula Bonz
  18. I have always massaged my cat, by hand or with a vibrator. She loved it and would come running if I turned it on. I'm now doing it for Andy, but not the vibrator. Maybe he'll get used to that in the future. They were never injured and needed massage therapy, I just do it for the bonding. Bonz
  19. Thanx Leenie! - I'll check those out too. scottiebear - The Nutro Puppy Natural Choice Lamb and Rice (small bites) is what I picked of that brand. I thought I'd give him that at night (If I switch off the Iams. He gobbles that up quickly and has 3 small poops per day.) & the Wellness Super5 Chicken in the morning. I've been giving Andy the Nutro Puppy Chops because they're small and he can have them a few times a day. Every night, late, he gets 1 Nutro Tarter Control biscuit to clean his teeth & fill him up 'til morning. I'll check out those Wellness treats too & may buy to give him a bigger variety of treats. It's funny; I've been using Iams for over a decade for my cats and bought it for the dog since we got him. Before joining this Forum I thought I was getting good, premium food and never worried. But now... Gas?... Mrs B. has to endure my snoring and Andy's. Soon, she may have to endure my gas and Andy's too! :p Thanx everyone! Bonz
  20. If I fed Andy my table scraps he definitely wouldn't be healthy! I think I'll switch from Iams to one of the Nutro lines of dry food. He always gets a heaping teaspoon of canned (chicken or beef slices in gravy) dog food in every meal. He gets a half tablet of PET-TABS vitamin-mineral supplements each day, and has since he was born. Think I should up it to a whole tab now that he's 19 months old? Thanx scottiebear! Nutro Natural Choice came in second (rated 7) to Life's Abundance (the brand sold @ the comparison site, rated 10). EDIT: I dunno either! Andy= 26lbs. Iams - 1⅛-1½ cups/daily Natural Choice - 2¼ cups/daily I just decided to mix one of the above with Wellness Super-5. Bonz
