  1. Hey, Im looking at restarting obedience classes with my 7 month old again in Feb. Im just looking for somewhere close to where we live now rather then our old area. Im aware of:- Para districts Gawler and District obedience Northern Districts Kennel and Obedience Gepps Cross Dog training Centre (this is about 30minutes from where I live though) Im just wondering if anyone has any feedback on these Obedience places? The place I went to previously has used the check collars and my boy loses his mind if im trying to train him with food. Im going to call find out what method they all use but wanted to get some ideas on them first. Feel free to PM me :D Thanks in advance
  2. Hope your house is ok. Stay safe. Second the stay high and dry
  3. I have clicked flash website but like alot of others I think professional and informative is really important. I think personally the things I look at where the breed information, pedigree history and i spent time looking at the pictures to get an idea of what they actually do with the dogs ie walks, reserves rather then just show pictures. When looking for my boy I went straight to breed club and only considered the breeders it showed.
  4. Took him to the vets and he did his usual car sickness vomit and only bile came up. Vet was happy that he probably didnt actually eat any as something would have come up in the massive episode he had in the car ;) Ive just called to check on him and his doing well in recovery Thank you for the replies. Was freaking out about him a little and being so early in the morning was probably not helpful.
  5. Hello, My 7 month old golden is booked in to be desexed tomorrow. Unfortunately they dont open until 8am and I need to drop him there at 8am so as to only be 45min late to work. My work are not tolerant of tardiness. For this reason I cant really call the vet for there ideas so thought Id post here. My boy normal goes to bed in our bathroom (babygate on door) and he has his bed from when he was a pup that he has completely destryoed my removing stuffing ages ago. Well silly me decided that tonight he could have his bed moved from usual spot in lounge to the bathroom. I felt bad he doesmt have a bed and his shown no interest in attacking bed for 2 months. Ive woken up to get daughter bottle and sometime in last 3 hours his attacked bed and my bathroom is full of white stuffing. I can see where his been sick twice. One is 2 kibble biscuits and some grass. The other is some tennis ball coating and a fair amount of grass/weed. All the stuffing was dry so im assuming not swallowed and brought up. Im just not sure if his actually eaten any...also should I cancel desexing that his booked for? Sorry about grammer and spelling, its 1:30 and im on my phone.
  6. I walk my 2.5 year old daughter and 7 month old golden often and whenever someone gets close to us he will always place himself between my daughter and the stranger. If my Daughter is out the front waving off my OH pooch will be sitting right next to her until she comes in.
  7. My 7 month old still does this occasionaly, both wee and poo. I have tried washing the bedding as well as buying new bedding at the advice of my local vet. He doesnt even wait till night time and his alone he will do it in the lounge room when the back door is open He hasnt done it in about 3 weeks at this stage is longest his gone. Will be interested in seeing other peoples ideas.
  8. I had my puppy fly from newcastle to adelaide when he was 8 weeks. Not sure of carrier as I had dogtainers organise everything for me. Was very easy to deal with and everyone was lovely.
  9. I use a gentle leader (have watched the instructional video) as our golden pulls to much for myself to walk him. I do know that he walks perfectly with a slip collar without me ever needing to actually use it. however my obedience club doesnt approve of using them for anything but training so I dont use it. I have a bad back and hip injury and without the gentle leader I would not be able to walk my dog. I think he would prefer to be on gentle leader then only get the dog parks on weekends.
  10. My boy LOVES the Black Hawk. Ive been mixing it with his Iams and he is actually eating the black hawk and leaving the Iams. Loved the size of the sample bag will be moving him onto it once I finish up with my large Iams bag.
  11. Ive noticed that when I try obedience training in my local park my boy just wants to jump and play and I struggle to do a session. On the other hand when I go to obedience class he doesnt do any of this and actually responds about 80% better. Glad his better at class though
  12. Rather then open a new thread thought id BUMP this one... My 7 month old golden is great at recall on my property or at a dog park. HOWEVER does not recall well at the beach. I think it may have something to do with me not being able to whistle loud enough or yell his name in the nice recall voice I normally use. I was thinking of getting a whistle and teaching him to recall to the whistle as I think he would respond well to this. Im just wondering if anyone has any feedback on this or has tried it? Im still in learners at odebience with him due to late starting and I didnt want to use a whistle if this is later going to impact my abillity to use recall in future classes.
  13. Id be really interested in sending comething over there....Dont know how I never thought you could do this. If i was to post something how do I go about getting an address as such to send it to?
  14. My puppy loves carrots.....has my 2 year old eating them now cause oscar does
  15. I used to camp at thompsons beach all the time as a kid dont know how I didnt think of that one. Semaphore would be a great day out for the family as well as the pooch. Does anyone know of any others that are off leash or even off leash between certain hours? Ill def give the other 2 a go at some point this summer
  16. Hello, Im wanting to take my Golden for a swim shortly but I dont know of any dog beaches/river/dams north of Adelaide. Can anyone recommend somewhere? If anyone has any hints of good ways to introduce him to the water would be greatly appreciated as well.
  17. Im looking at switching shortly and was going to go to Nutro, was wonderign where you got the samples of this from? Would like to test it with my boy
  18. Since I put him on Iams he has had black stool. I thought maybe he was just weird and the sun was making them that way. A friend has recently put her dog on Iams and her pups poo has gone black as well. Is this healthy though? With the chicken carcasses, do I just get an actual chicken carcass and let him chow down on it? Obviously with me watching him.
  19. Hello, I have a LARGE 7 month old Golden boy. When I got him from the breeder he was fed Supercoat puppy biscuits and Pal canned meat. The supercoat he didn't like and the Pal made for alot of stool samples in my back yard. When I started his puppy classes at my vet I moved him onto Iams large breed puppy biscuits only as this was what was recommended to me by the vet nurse. As well as the Iams he current enjoys a boiled egg or some veg as a treat. We also give him large bones from the butcher during the week. I spent alot of time researching the breed but have only now started reading on what to actually feed him. I'm wondering what biscuits you would recommend for his staple diet? I'm looking at finding 2 so that I can switch between them every few months to vary his intake. Ive read alot of bad things about Iams and Euk and I'm now worried that I may be doing the wrong thing feeding it to him. Also Ive read of alot of people giving chicken drumsticks and necks to there puppys. I would like to do this but think that they are to small for my boy...His a true golden and doesn't tend to chew alot before swallowing something he thinks is truly yummy. Any feedback would be very helpful and thanks in advance.
