Could People Think You Have Abused Your Dog?
*Oscar* replied to far_kenell_73's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our golden retriever who I have had from 8 weeks has many things that someone might think is odd. If its dark and my daughter has left a toy in the hallway out of place he will bark at it like its going to kill him. If you ask him to drop whilst standing to close and use a hand signal he will flinch like you are about to hit him (no one has ever used physical violence against him). If my husband jokingly raises his voice to rough houses with our daughter he will get her away from him and continue to growl and bark at my husband until my daughter is atleast 3 metres from my husband. -
Titre Testing Instead Of Annual Vaccinations.
*Oscar* replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
For those that do test rather then vaccinate what are the costs involved? My boy gets really itchy throughout the year so Id be interested to try titre testing him and seeing if that improves his itchiness and hotspots throughout the next year. Anyone know any SA kennels that would accept titre testing? -
Ok ill check them out, I know there are some out in the Gawler and Two wells area but cant find any reviews anywhere for them.

Hi Dolers, I need to find a good boarding kennel in the northern suburbs of Adelaide for my golden retriever. He does not cope well with people he knows house sitting and frets the whole time and is very destructive (not normal behaviour). As I had a golden as a child and he died from stress whilst we holidayed I am trying to find a place that I can trust will look after him. Any Suggestions welcome :) Thanks in advance

Less then a minute, its then normally brought back up and chewed for another minute. He doesnt get them anymore because of this

I had this problem in my magna. If you have a sedan we put anchor points on each side of back and then put a cable tie on each anchor point. We then just place the clip through the cable tie rather then around a head rest....Hope this makes sense. We just have a cheap hammock cover from the reject shop.

What's Under The Christmas Tree For Your Furkids
*Oscar* replied to k9angel's topic in General Dog Discussion
My boy has a fire engine everlasting ball treat, a bunch of refills, some liver treats, santa costume and a replacement blue everlasting treat ball. I've got a back pack for him to wear on our walls on order. Spoilt!! -
Quick question with the beach goers, do you bathe them after the swim at all? Sorry, having similar issue here.

Vicks really does work, its the ONLY thing that stopped my Golden boy from destroying my bathroom vanity and door. Make sure you really coat it on though as a small smear doesnt really do the job. I find now that I dont even have to have it on because his scared to taste it

He Sleeps in the bathroom with a baby gate that locks him in every night. He is let let out of here at 5:30-6am in the morning by my husband who feeds and toilets him in the morning and puts him back in until I get up. His then taken back out about 7am and taken for a 30+ minute walk with me. Generally once I leave for work his put back outside and 3 times a week a walker comes and walks him for an hour for me. His let back in at 3pm by my husband and they spend time playing fetch and walking our daughter to the park. He will sit calmly without needing to be told to come out of bathroom or in from outside. When I come home he will sit quietly at our hallway gate and wait for me to come through and pat him, then tear down the hallway like a mental case to tell everyone Im home. However when we have visitors he is so bad at runny past them very fast, jumping and rubbing himself on peoples legs and generally not calming down. This wasnt helped by literally all my friends being pregnant when he was 4 months so I couldn't have him near them when they visited. I now cant have him in as they have very young children or babies. This also means my daughter and niece cant run around like kids with him inside as he gets way to carried away and will end up hurting one when he plows into them running around. If its just him and my daughter at home he will just (mostly) calmly follow her around or lay down and watch her. This is mainly when I need to have something that I can do other then separate or have him on a lead when people come over.

Hey Guys, I'am wanting to teach my boy a calm command, no idea how to start with this though. I want to teach him calm as his a typical hyper golden retriever who my partner loves to rough house with, this is all well and good for them to bond however he sometimes gets a little carried away when my daughter plays with him and I thought if I could teach him to calm when playing or calm when I'm attempting to just quietly sit with him this would be beneficial for us. I just have no idea where to start with teaching it. Thanks in advance

Hey Guys, Ive got my boy on the puppy mix, he really doesnt like larger biscuits when I have tried introducing them to him. Is there much size difference between puppy and adult mixes? Thanks
-
My pooch is in the backseat in a harness, I clip him into the anchor point rather then a seat belt though. I also lock my back doors when driving him as I have had him open the back door when trying to stick his head out the window, lucky for him I wasnt moving at the time.

Hey Guys, I'm sorry for another what breed thread but Id love some opinions/Ideas.. I'm wanting to get some ideas on some smaller breeds as I really don't know alot about them having always been a bigger dog person. I currently have a 1 year old desexed golden boy who has done his puppy classes and basic obedience (we are about to get back into this shortly). I also have a 3 year old girl who is very good with dogs and doesn't have any issues with our current boy. Shes been very good with helping with his training and tells him off if his getting to boisterous with her. We both work full time hours however I'm in retail so work over a 7 day roster and my husband starts very early and is home very early. So i'm often home on a weekday and our current boy is left at most for 6 hours some days at home. We don't have a massive house or backyard so do not want to get another large dog and are looking at smaller breeds. We are wanting a dog that doesn't require regular trips to a groomer for haircuts, I dont mind a bit of brushing like I have with our golden. Our neighbor has 2 pet store mixes that bark ALOT and we want a dog that will bark if theres something to bark at but that doesn't feel the need to bark at nothing. Id prefer a dog that has a more mellow then our current boy and doesn't require as much exercise in case I end up having to always exercise them separately. A breed that I've looked at briefly is the Dachshund, but I read they are hard to train and not good with kids? I don't like to look of a King Charles Spaniel. I had a Jack Russell as a kid and it was completely mental, not sure if she was just a "special" dog. I'm looking at getting an adult not a puppy and although I'm not wanting to do this for about a year as I want my current boy to be older and I want the right fit. Thanks in advance guys, sorry for the essay.

Hello, Ive got a 1 year old desexed male golden that Ive come to realise is not toilet trained properly, just suddenly clicked today He has always been kept in our bathroom at night with a baby gate on the door. He is REALLY good at not doing anything in there and has occasionally gone 10 hours without weeing when I have slept through an alarm. If he does need to go generally he will do some barking or just go over the drain, this I have no problem with. As a puppy he would go to the toilet on the carpet in our hallway rather then advising us (clearly wasn't picking up on this queues either). There has been a few times that we have allowed him to have the run of the hallway and bathroom at night as we believed that he was old enough and showing the ability to hold on, EVERY TIME he has had this allowance he has gone for a wee one the carpet. Just tonight he was unable to get out his dog door as it was shut and has just walked down the hallway and done a wee on the carpet :'( there was no sign he needed the toilet, he did not come up to me either. I need HELP! I havent had the carpets cleaned professionally and I'm now thinking I should start there to try and get rid of some of the smell maybe? Im also thinking he wont go on the tiles in the bathroom as he considers that his room? I have the problem that even if he DESPERATELY needs the toilet he will not go outside whilst you are anywhere near the door as he fears getting locked outside. This means I can literally stand outside for an hour waiting for him to join me and wee. I know I need to go back to basics with him but dont really know what the basics are with a dog thats already established a routine in the house. Help?

I can get around but find it difficult to walk him very far and find the time with my rehab appointments. Part of it is If there was a situation with another dog I would not be strong enough to prevent something happening. Prefer him to be safely walked by another at this time. Have found 2 walkers in my area I just now have to decide on which one Thank you all alot for the PMs the offers of help are much appreciated.

My Golden boy would be sick every time we got in the car. I started with ginger tablets from the pharmacy and only having 5-10 minute drives (this is how long he could last without being sick). Eventually after a month or 2 he started to improve and now I can drive him without a problem. I suggest investing in a good car seat protector though Good Luck
