  1. We got a 6 month old puppy in October last year, its taken this long for us to connect. We alsp have a cav but i have never connected with her. I love her dearly but there is no connection.
  2. My cav stinks after 3-4 days because of a yeast infection. I have started to bath her once a week in neem grooming shampoo then with neem conditioner. She stops smelling and doesnt scratch as much. Brushing her every day and changing her bedding every couple of days helps to. Someone at a dog show recommended yakult..a bottle a day to get rid of the yeast infection. I havent tried it yet tho.
  3. How do you adminster the powder? I used to sprinkle it on their food, but they didnt always eat it all and i didnt know how much to give.
  4. Who decides who gets desexed? My puppy is shown..not to be desexed until she either shows a lack of interest or she is to old. As far as I am aware, dogs are not adopted from the RSPCA unless they are desexed first. So how does this campaign aimed at the RSPCA work then? Scary thought that we can told to desex out dog no matter what..wouldnt take long for there to be no dogs in Australia! Maybe thats what they want.
  5. I was at a dog show a couple of weeks ago and a lady with a child asked me if I knew anyone who bred Cavoodles. I had to ask her a couple of times because i couldnt quiet catch the breed so she had to say cavalier and poodles for me to get it. i looked at her strange, said no and walked away, thinking what sort of person would think cavoodles is a breed!
  6. I do not foster dogs but have been thinking about it lately. After reading the posts and how dogdaze has reacted, I will not be fostering. I have two precious babies and do not wish to put them at risk just to save another pup who may have parvo. Dogdaze, i dont know you but your posts do not do the rescue group any good, whether you are a part of the group or not your attacks here have turned me off fostering any dogs. Your anger just points to a guilty conscience.
  7. If we go away we usually take the dogs with us unless we go somewhere they cant go. We used to get my mum to puppysit but we found the older one fretted alot and refused to eat until we came home so now the the mother-in-law comes to our place to puppy, bird and fish sit while we are away. She loves our dogs just as much as we do and they love her back. The dogs just keep on doing what they do best while we are away and only miss us a little bit.
  8. We can PTS a puppy with a birth defect because it will cause financial strain on the family and its bad for business but we cannot PTS a deformed human baby even tho it will cause financial and emotional hardship for more years then the animal would have. We can PTS an animal that is suffering becuase its the humane thing to do but we cannot PTS a human that is suffering because that is murder. A human has the right to live regardless of the circumstances. An animal doesnt, they are at our mercy. Just my 2 cents.
  9. The metal mesh compast bin from bunnings works well. The panels can be turned either ways to suit how high you need the pen. 3 packs are enough to go around a 3mx3m gazebo. I dont know how far it would go if you turned the panels up.. If the dogs are jumpers I have found the pen does give way. so a couple of stakes down the centre would hold it upright. Or if your using it around a gazebo, place 2 opposite corners on the outside and the other 2 corners on the inside of the posts..thats enough to make it sturdy incase the dogs jump up.
  10. Mummy and Daddy to our dogs at home and in public. We have had some wierd looks in the past but I dont really care what other people think. They are a part of our family and if someone is uncomfortable with me referring to myself as my puppies mother then its they that have the problem not me. OH says we are their parents because we provide love, food and all the other stuff you do for your dependants whether they have 4 legs or 2. We dont refer my daughter as sister to the dogs tho.
  11. i am chasing a pattern for bitches britches..does anyone have one they can share or know of a link please?
  12. Thats disgusting. Poor pups, The owners should be locked up in a room and not given anything to brush their hair or shower for months..see how they like it!
  13. My cav had her operation last October and intially she was just crated. She is a jumper so we had to be careful. After the first couple of weeks we hooked up the bunnings compast bin panel and watched her closely but she didnt jump. At the intial consult the vet thought her crucial ligment was damaged as well but luck was with us on that one. Her leg still isnt good and she is still on pain medication. Last time i took her to the vet for a checkup he said it could take upto a year for her to recover properly. She has pins in her knee and her bone was deformed so they had trouble pinning it, so now she walks funny which causes her pain. Sometimes I think she would have been better off without the surgery.
  14. What about a puppy pad while she is inside?? if she tends to go in one spot put a pad there and slowly move it to the door. It may take awhile but at least it will save your floors. We bought a puppy when she was 6months old. toilet trained well but lived in lowset house. We live in high set house and she couldnt use the stairs. It has taken 4 months to get her to go up and down the stairs and she will only go down if we are standing at the bottom. Meanwhile she chose to do her business on the bathroom floor so I placed a puppy pad there and now am slowling moving it to the door. She doesnt always let us know she wants to go outside but will do wees on the pad.
  15. Having a male dog pee on my one spare doggy blanket and then other gets wet cause it was raining. Same dog then pee'd on a towel. People who boast how long they have been breeding, how many dogs they have bred and how many dogs they have shown etc etc, and then proceed to put down most the exhibitors around. People who attach themselves just because you have said hello and smiled and learn later on this is why most people avoid them. Finidng ants nesting under the mattress in our tent because its the driest spot in the showgrounds.
  16. how is it going to be policed if the govt take over? Unless they have someone at everyones home making sure the dog/s arent bred it without a license, it wont work. Legislation will only keep honest people honest. Even if every puppy sold had to be papered it still wouldnt work, papers can be falseafied if someone wants to make money bad enough.
  17. Thats awesome, watched it twice. My DD liked the ending...wonder if I could teach my puppy some of those tricks, specialy the dishwasher/washing machine ones.
  18. I would love to help but could only take one. I live in Townsville tho. We have a 4 1/2 yr old cav and 6 month old lhasa apso. I would just like to say i think DOL is a wonderfull place with all the people coming forward to help.
  19. Phoebe used to grin at OH while twirling around in circles. When I would mention 'treat', she and Madison would line up at the cupboard that holds their food and sit patiently until they got a treat. Phoebe kissed me on the cheek when I asked. When she was little I used to pretend to hold something in my hand and be very very interested in it. She would be curious and come over to see what it was every time. Madison 'talks' to us in a funny grunts and whinges and whines. She has differant sounds for differant things that she wants. Sasha the puppy will give a low woof when she wants to go outside and she is learning when she hers a squeek from the kitchen (food cupboard door squeeks) something good is coming her way..LOL. She also does this tumble and run thing when running around the backyard like a mad puppy. It just looks like she gets bored with running around and decides to throw in a full roll before running some more. She also does a wolf howl when she wants something, just throws her head back and lets loose and will keep doing it until she gets what she wants. Only problem is i have to figure what 'it' is.
  20. Because they are a deterrent for would be thieves. Awhile ago 2 teenage girls were caught inside a house two doors down. In their possession was a list of houses that they were going to 'hit' and not hit. The not list were all the houses that had dogs, including ours. Our dogs a little fluff balls that yap that wouldn't stop anyone but they make alot of noise if anyone comes near the house.
  21. That sounds like a LOT of grain to me. A little rice, pasta or oats wont hurt but they don't necessarily need it. Your 2x2 biscuits contain wheat too. If it were me I'd cut out the rice/pasta/oats/bran altogether (or at least cut it down). Wheatgerm contains vitamin E which is good, but it can go rancid so keep it cool. Omega Pet oil would be a better option. Add some variety to your veg (green leafy veg is good - spinach, pumpkin, cellery, green alfalfa, and/or fruit - apples, pears, oranges, bananas are all fine) and puree it in a blender until its mush. Also, and most importantly, you need to add some bone to your dogs diet. Either whole raw meaty bones or pet mince containing bone. Add the (crushed) shell of the eggs into your mix too. You should probably add some offal in too - liver in particular. Other things you could add (if you wanted to) are canned sardines or mackeral, cottage cheese, natural yogurt, parsley and ACV. Hope that helps :D eta, just saw that you give her chicken necks as well. I'd substitute her 2x2's for another neck, or swap her meal for a wing, drumstick, thigh, lamb flap or shank now and then. Thanks, helps alot, you have given me ideas that i can work with and it wont take much to do. I got the recipie from a raw web site and I always thought it was to much grain.
  22. Anyone with a cav on raw diet? I have been feeding raw her for just over 2 months now and feel i don't have the mix right. This is what I mix up and give her 1/2 cup a day, chicken neck, 2 biscuits (2x2's). I had to fiddle with the amounts until I found a portion that didnt put weight on her, because of her knees she is not an active dog. She loves the below and woofs it down every night. Is there to much pasta/rice/oats? Should there be more vegies? I used to add natural yoghurt and kelp powder when I gave her dinner but she didnt like it. 2kg chicken/beef mince 1 cup cooked brown rice 1 cup cooked pasta 200g grated vegies (carrots/zuccini) 2 eggs 2 cup oats 1/2 cup bran 1/2 cup wheat germ 4 caps flaxseed oil 1 tsp garlic 150g honey
  23. We have one PetBarn here. They have a good variety of stuff but are expensive. They no longer sell puppies/kittens and last time i was in there, they no longer have rats/mice or guinea pigs. They do however still sell fish. Poor fish. I bought some for hubby, there were dead ones floating in the tank, the girl dragged a heap to the side of tank and dragged them up the side of the tank. Scooped them out and uncermonously dumped them into a bag. Needless to say those fish didnt live long once i got them home.
  24. I adopted dog from RSPCA, she had been dumped, covered in ticks, fleas, had to be shaved cause she was sooo matted. 5 months later, she was stolen from my yard, police called. Dog located. People said it was their dog, missing 12 months. Police did nothing. Possession is 9/10's of the law. It was a dog. The officer told me that if it was a car or boat then they would do something. Police said they do not have facilities to hold dog while it goes to court. I was offered mediation to try and talk them into getting my dog back. RSPCA would do nothing either. A dog maybe a thing in the eyes of the law but because it breathes they dont want to know about it.
