  1. My order just arrived!! It was dispatched on 26Nov, and got here today, so 2 wks in the mail!
  2. this thread! Panto at about 10wks old Panto now (9 years young)
  3. Dogmad, if you don't already have a poster made up, I can use what you sent me yesterday to mock one up for you - let me know.
  4. This works well, as does a stiff brush, spray with a fine mist, helps the hair gather.
  5. LOL! I got it - I am an autocorrect numpty - I assumed you must have typed in "sureon" which would have been autocorrected Thanks
  6. I am not surgeon the rules now with age, i know once the dog hits 8 they have to be assessed every year. As far as food goes, you can always ask for the dog not to be fed, I started off not wanting the girls to be fed unless I was handing out the treats for a trick etc, but you would have to be on guard, it seems built into some people to feed feed feed One guy one day as we were walking out of the room called us back and as Tully turned around he stuck a whole sweet bicky in her mouth. I didn't get a chance to say no food and I didn't have the heart to take it off her, so there she sat till the bicky and all the crumbs were gone. So now it is a case by case basis, but the dogs do sometimes expect to get food it doesn't take them long to figure out that these rooms have food somewhere. But it is all good, My friend who recently lost her dog, she visited a nursing home and a centre for mentally disabled people (hope that is the right term) the nursing hem was fine and all the residents would be in one big room for the visit and the dog got a small bit of treat (shacko) from each patient. But at the other place the residents were hard on the dog, pinching, hitting, pulling tails that sort of thing and he just took it in his stride. My friend got to know after a while who the pinchers and hitters were and steered clear as much as she could and was very careful to avoid those situations. I will admit I don't think I could subject my girls to any sort of rough treatment from patients, mind you some of the kids can be a bit rough but the girls seem to accept that ok. Panto, do you have a younger dog you could train up for Delta, might be a good excuse to get a new doggy. I might give Delta a call and at least have a chat, she's in great health and seems her years are beyong her youthful nature, it would be a waste not to at least chat with them especially after seeing your piccies and reading what you've written, it's such a wonderful thing to do - thank you for the encouragement She tends to get a bit excited with food and wants to snatch sometimes if she is too excited and her teeth get in the way, won't bite whatsoever, but she is an awesome catcher if food is thrown up in the air. Last weekend I had a friend over with 4 kids all under 8, a baby girl and 3 boys, the youngest ran around being 'scared' of dogs (but you know they're not really scared), and the other two ran around after her wanting to pat pull tug panto panto panto panto PANTO PANTO pantooooo!!! panto panto panTO!, it was unending but she just either put up with it happily or walked away after awhile. These kids always take away some form of 'dog knowledge - how to be around dogs etc' and they do retain most of it, but we don't see them all that often or frequent, so we do what we can. ps. no younger dog... yet. :p It will be a matter of years before I get another dog, and so far am leaning towards staying as a one dog family whilst Panto is still with me.
  7. Gorgeous pics! A very worthwhile thing to do. Something I'd love to do with panto, especially after chatting with Jumabaar and Demi about it, but I think our ship may have sailed on that one, she's already 9, and can be a bit hit and miss with the 'taking food gently' because she's so food driven.
  8. I ordered 3 weeks ago and it arrived on Monday... I am in sydney metro if that helps? I just put in another order yesterday and feel fairly sure it will arrive before christmas... IMO I wouldn't be ordering past friday if you want to be sure it arrives before christmas. ETA - that was using the free international shipping option.
  9. Sadly there are forums which any DOLer would find abhorrent on how to commit these acts, and even some users admitting to cruelty. I won't post anything further on that as this section of DOL is public and I dont want to facilitate someone trying to look for that information.

In that area, I strongly doubt it...

    Go The Dog!

Cool story! Thanks for sharing (And a beautiful car too!) The story below in case anyone can't click through: Thieves foiled after luxury car shuts down November 8, 2011 Thieves who stole a $160,000 Audi from a home in Sydney's east were foiled when the car's tracking device was turned on, stalling the engine, police say. Two adults and three children were asleep in their home in Olphert Street, Vaucluse, when thieves broke into their garage about 1.30am, stealing the luxury grey Audi RS4 station wagon, police said. Message 0424 SMS SMH (+61 424 767 764) or email us with information or images. The car was found by police on Phillip Street, Alexandria, a short time later. It's believed the engine stalled after the owners initiated a tracking device installed in the car. A man was seen running from the area and chased by the dog squad. He was bitten on the leg, before being treated for his injury at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He was later released from custody and not charged. A police spokeswoman said: "He was seen in the area, but he wasn't seen in the car so investigations are continuing." Anyone with information is urged to contact Rose Bay police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. An Audi spokeswoman said that the company did not make tracking systems, and this would have been installed after the car was bought. She said that the RS4 was ''almost impossible'' to steal, even without a tracking device. ''It has a fairly elaborate engine immobilising system - you either need a key or a tow-truck. There is no other way to break into one of our cars,'' she said. Mark Bucknall, a spokesman for the GPS tracking company Securatrak , said some insurance companies required luxury car owners to fit tracking systems on their vehicles. If a car is stolen, the owner can see where their car is, and immobilise its engine from the time it is parked. ''After that, it wont be started again. The reason we do this is for safety. If the engine is turned off we can expect it is safe for a vehicle to stop. This is safer than randomly stopping an engine, when the driver could be on a level crossing or somewhere where they cannot stop,'' Mr Bucknall said. The tracking systems range from $400, for a device that plugs in like an iPod, to $2500 for a system that includes panic buttons. 12. Stupid generalisations disgust me. You do nothing for the argument with exaggerations, generalisations and what is basically racism- besides lose credibility for your own cause. Totally agreed. I grew up in Asia because my Father was based there for work, I've since been home for 8 years now. I'd say their 'customs' are welcoming, friendly and respectful for most animals and people. Not everyone in Asia walks out and eats a random dog for breakfast. Or a Koala. Or an endangered species. You probably have people in every country who does weird things, and eat strange things. There are also some cultures who eat cockroaches, bats, spiders etc, that AREN'T Asian. So what do ya know? Aboriginals ate witchedy grubs (Sp?) and crickets etc... That might be considered disgusting to some people too. But if someone came out and said 'AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS DISGUST ME THEY EAT GRUBS AND CRICKETS'. You'd be pretty offended too. Don't tar people with the same brush unless you know all of them personally. Agree with HA and MM. I am surprised with how many people are still flippantly throwing around prejudiced and generalised racial / culturally prejudiced slurs despite the issue being raised earlier in the thread. Certainly learning a lot more about certain DOLers.
  13. dogmad/K9angel, you are both so kind hearted. I've passed on the information from here to some friends to help spread the word too, amongst some german shepherd (cross or not) and large breed lovers.
  14. It's not just 'The Chinese', it's lots of different cultures that do similar things, and there are also the smugglers, and no doubt plenty of things in our own backyard that are abhorrent, and even those that ship them for their own 'viewing' pleasure or just for the sake of 'owning' it. A culture should not be blamed for the acts of a few within that culture.
  15. Thanks for starting this! Might head to Newtown and Woollahra events.
  16. There was one at Mosman too, at the Alan Border Oval
  17. eucalyptus oil?? I am not sure what wooden finish you already have, but should be ok.
  18. check out the roomba and the scooba. google 'irobot' they also do pool cleaners and gutter cleaners... was amazed there was such technology! I have the roomba, it picks up so much dust.
  19. Just saw this in the paper too - can't believe they're publishing unsubstatiated evidence and naming a breed. The Age - now stooping to the level of quality journalism demonstrated by today tonight and a current affair.
  20. Poorly edited story by ninemsn staff, mentioning a "Mr Jones" without introduction. I assume they mean Mr Holmes... Poor kid, but he should also have been taught not to lean over a fence and pat someone else's dog.
  21. RIP Mack, I too shed a tear for you and those you loved. Hugs for you and your pack Cathya, he was so lucky to have met you, and I gather vice versa also.
  22. Panto's a solo girl! I am fairly sure she's very happy that way, loves a play with her friends and her outings, but at home, she likes to have mum and anyone else in the home all to herself, but is also very good at sharing if she has to (ie if there happens to be a foster or a visiting canine!)
