  1. Hi Photo peeps Can anyone recommend a tripod? I drive a nikon D80 with an 118-200mm lens. I'd like one that I can set up on a benchtop and point down into a light box set up, but also be able to take it out with me. If i can't have one that does both, I'd rather start with the benchtop use a priority, and perhaps I will get a monopod to take out and about with me. I know manfrotto does good tripods, just by knowing the name - but I would like something where I can get away with spending as little as possible but not get frustrated with camera shake. I saw the nikon ni400, but read somewhere it's only good for a point and shoot? As you can tell I am fairly clueless right now and not sure where to start... would love some advice from any DOLers pretty please that use tripods? Thanks in advance!
  2. After working 3 jobs at once to save to afford my investment property I think I have every right to say what potential tennants have in MY home. Personally I really like the idea of a pet bond but think it should be more in the vacinity of $1000-$2000 to cover potenital damages. We had a tenant who fell behind in her rent by the time she was evicted (so that used up the bond)and discovered she had 2 large dogs (which being nice - never again) which we said were fine to stay so long as she repaired any damaged done by them. When she moved out the dogs had done almost $2500 worth of damage I think if landlords are forced to accept tenants with animals then perhaps there may be a few less rental properties available. That's hilarious. The person paying the mortgage has every right to be given applications by the property manager and say No, No, No, No...this one looks good - young professional non smoking skippy couple with no children and no animals. Accept it. The more demands that are placed on investment owners, the faster they'll ditch their investment properties and sink their money into something else. Then tenants will really have something to complain about. And then let's see them complain there's nothing available to rent... I've had tenants where just one of the parents earnt more than I did, so I was surprised they didn't purchase their own. I worked hard and saved hard, but it's not impossible. Turns out when I went to do a repair on something, their kids had EVERY toy they ever wanted, the house was PACKED and looked horrid. Each to their own, I just rent it out, I don't dictate how someone should live. I currently rent to a family with 4 kids and an ACD - rent is paid, and PM says property is in good order, though I'm scant to believe that myself as I am yet to find a PM I can trust sufficiently. YES. Panto has one... my friends think it's hilarious, then they sheepishly ask if they can copy it because they would like to move somewhere pet friendly  That's a total load of BS. It's tenants not prioritising things in the right order - like living a little further away or looking just that bit harder. It's not not being able to find, it's not trying hard enough. Unless it's someone with health issues that needs to be very close to a particular hospital (or other such circumstance), it's not that hard. And if its because they've got a bad credit/rental history, and get knocked back from the pet friendly rentals, then that's the reason, and not because there isn't pet friendly rentals available.
  3. well it's a fail on point two isn't it ... Couldnt help but leave a comment about this journalism fail... perhaps if enough people comment...
  4. I've searched years ago and not come up with solutions, training or otherwise. I could definitely do with it and will be watching this thread - Panto has killed several lizards and even a red belly black snake...
  5. So very well said PS, from an incredibly true generous heart. I do see benefit in keep track, for example, like dogmad does, because the one day someone does come along to make waves which can take up sooo much precious time (even though they're not worth it), it can be dealt with swiftly because you have kept apt records.
  6. I've just seen the positive updates and photos, and was doing all in my power not to have a little cry as I'm at work, but seeing that photo of her in the doorway just took me over the edge. Well done team Ellie!!
  7. Everything crossed for dear Ellie. K9Angel the pics are gorgeous, Jack is such a special little soul. lilmisssascha83, very generous and kind hearted offer.
  8. I have stayed here before and loved it, cosy comfortable house with nice decor (not your regular old stuff), and a fenced yard. Watch out for the native lizards though, so that doggies don't try get em. http://www.stayz.com.au/28857 (likely it's not available, but something to keep in mind for another time perhaps)
  9. I only skimmed, so am not sure if someone else has posted this, but a report from pedigree, drawing on data from various sources including PetRescue: http://www.pedigreeadoptiondrive.com.au/assets/pdf/THE%20PEDIGREE%202010%20DOG%20ADOPTION%20INDEX.pdf Not sure if there is anything more recent, will have a looksee...

Thanks snook + SW snook I think getting adept at lightroom is a good idea. I have CS3, but I can't find lightroom, perhaps I didnt install it at the time because I didnt see a use for it - or maybe it wasn't out yet? I don't know. I think I'll need to sort out my storage too, my mac is running so slow these days, I think I have too many photos. I feel so time challenged but you're both right, I just have to give it a go and get better at it. SW - that's a gorgeous entry of the butterfly cupcakes and you tell a very good story too, thank you for sharing.
  11. This... I cannot manage many words right now. Heart, thoughts and paws with you guys.

I'm not looking for food photos or looking to reinvent the wheel dear! I'm seeing if there's anyone out there that wants to photograph my food in exchange for food.
  14. There are extremists on both sides of the camp - please don't tarnish all rescue with the same brush as those rescue extremists resorting to emotional blackmail. Responsible and ethical rescue, and breed rescue are still doing wonderful things, without those doing that great work having their work undermined by extremists. Nor should good breeders (that also assist or support rescue of their breed) be painted with the same brush as byb's or less ethical breeders.
  15. I'm interested in this too, as my neighbourhood is rampant with idiot cat owners that let them wander 24/7 and get into fights with each other, often in the wee hours of the night with screeches that wake me up before dog even sets off. I worry one of those cats will end up over my fence one day. As much as I worry about my dog getting scratches and injury, I fear there will be only a feline body to collect after dog is through with it. Pls let us know if you come up with any ideas?
  16. Panto only recently just before she turned 9... but because she'd hurt her back rather than anything else. She still wants to tear after the ball ""i'm ready, ok i'm ready - hey mum! i'm ready! let's go, what's next, i'm ready! wheeeeee!!". It's heartbreaking not being able to let her run as much as she would like to as she'll be in pain later. So I walk her around the park and only do a few small throws, the rest of the time she sniffs around at her only pace (turbo) with ball in mouth.
  17. That is brilliant forward thinking RE the drink bottle collection!
  18. Paris could well do with a lottery for lazy bloody dog owners' to pick up after their own dogs' shit and chuck it in a bin rather than get everyone else to do it for them while they hang back and smoke a gauloise while out walking Chien Chien Perhaps an entire lottery gift pack for anyone herding up lazy dog owners?
  19. Haha! That is genius!! Paris could do well with an incentive like that.
  20. Mine was sent on the 23rd so hopefully it's not too far away!! I had it delivered to Sydney CBD (no 'bulky' items) - so surely yours can't be that far off! My last order took 3 weeks. Alas I can't take it home with me because I have dinner after work, perhaps I'll come and pick it up over the wknd :D
