  1. You're not wrong!! I spent Saturday traisping around Sydney rounding up more tracksuit donations, picking up cookies (verdict... delicious!.. that's from the dogs that is, although Pepper's dad did lament, well they're made of human grade ingredients, right? ) Sunday morning I drove an old truck and helped a friend move a large piece of furniture, so between that and the wknd's efforts and the workshop, I was early to bed last night (whilst nodding off in front of tv just after dinner), and could barely get up this morning!! Thanks for the interest LG :) DD - thank you so much for dropping in and dropping off the towels, they will definitely make it to pounds next time I can do a round or coordinate with other transport to a pound! Our last minute donations from friends and colleagues more than doubled what we had been collecting, so much so that we couldn't get through all of them! So there is some for our next workshop on June 23. In the meanwhile, we have tracksuit bodies and rolls of fleece which have been donated too, so we will be making these too - just have to send out what we currently have and see what size is most needed / used so we can cut the right/most common size. Lots of photos were taken, but I'm waiting for those to become available. In the meanwhile, a couple from my phone! Pepper on top of the mountain of donations (which grew from this by another half!)
  2. Got in touch with K9Angel and we will have her cookies to sell on site on Sunday!
  3. Is there any sydney based rescue or foster carers (pls check with your group if ok) that might want to come along with fosters to give them some exposure?? I have checked with the shopowner and she is ok if rescue want to sell any of their fundraising items for their group (I have been trying to call K9Angel through the week to see if she wants to sell some cookies, but have been unable to get in touch with her). If there are any fosters that want to come along with their handler, maybe even model some of the jumpers made, we will have a couple of professional photographers on hand too, so a good opportunity for some doggy glamour shots! Pls PM me (or, alternately you can call the shop).
  4. I was thinking that too, and that way you can have them around if you're recovering at home for the 6 weeks? Sounds like you have a few weeks to find someone capable that you can work with & trust. Check around vets etc. I have heard good things about the Terrigal Pet resort without having used them myself. They too may know of trustworthy and experienced dog walkers? It might be handy to have 2 on your books if possible, so that if they need to, they can alternate days, or you have a back up if one of them isn't available one day. Sorry you're in this situation and best of luck with the surgery
  5. Yes, I agree to a point. I am always willing to donate my time to do demos with my dogs (4 hour round trip for a 5 min retrieving demo at a winery a few months ago) but there was such a strong emphasis on me doing everything (involving time and money) and them doing nothing (and making $$$) that I decided against it. They contacted me originally, didn't follow up as discussed and then sent emails telling me the audition day was cancelled due to an overwhelming response (huh?), please submit your proposal ASAP (huh?), thank you for proposal but you were unsuccessful (huh?). And didn't respond when I replied to those emails. Clearly generic emails sent to a mailing list but simply not helpful if you're trying to get people to volunteer their valuable time. Ugh, I would be done with that too!! Maybe they were just the hired marketing help that was so lacking... here's hoping!!
  6. Perhaps they ran out of 'free to good home' ads to get their dogs from. *disclaimer - pure emotion based speculation.
  7. Just went to visit the site - Pet Rescue will be there too. I think someone raised a good point about being louder and prouder.
  8. got my first donation at work today!! Had some promised too so hoping they come through by Sunday as well. I will be going opshopping all day saturday by the looks of things!
  9. Leichhardt is easy for me to get to. Please PM me if you get a response and if I can help (ie. pick-up/temp care).
  10. Just called salvos - no luck! They have a contract w a company for their unsellables!!
  11. [quote name='Danny's Darling' One of my neighbours mentioned having some from her children (they're not much more than babies though) so I'll call on her. I think she is at work today. They would be great for littlies :)
  12. She is! she's a gorgeous lil munchkin! she has a bit of a following with locals near the shop, people will drop in for a pepper visit! Not a lot of tracksuit donations yet, we're getting a little worried, fingers crossed more will come in! I'm going to call the salvation army in tempe and ask them for their 'unsellable' tracksuits where we might still be able to use the arms or legs from them!
  13. thanks for the DD!! The posters are on the first post, but for reposting for page 3:
  14. I'm not sure how to do that, but I can send it to you via email? Can you pls send me your email address? I can't access the fb here from work, but I thought the posters were on the fb page, sorry!
  15. Hi everyone, Have updated the original post with details for tracksuit collection and our first workshop!! If there is a Sydney based rescue out there who might want to come along with a foster or two, pls PM me, I am going to discuss with Mel (shopowner) about the possibility of a rescue setting up outside the shop, which I hope might be good exposure for the group, and a good chance for fosters to meet some people and some people of the general public to meet the fosters and learn about ethical rescue!
  16. oh you've no idea! highly recommended holiday for anyone needing holiday ideas... seeing bread makes me think of grabbing the snorkel and hitting the water...
  17. hehe cat chat... the girl in the front left is missing her front left leg as a result of a car accident, she's waiting for a forever home. they're all so well looked after and such wigglebums! many closer pics didn't turn out very well because they just wouldnt keep still! the only goat in care at the moment, after eye surgery;
  18. this little poor poppet came in with his insides on the outside, believe it was a larger older stray dog. Surgery was 3 1/2 hours, obviously a success from what I saw as he was very wiggly and was wanting to play and jump and frolic... (his name is zeus)
  19. ok here we go! some piccies from my visit. some of these guys are owned - from what I saw on the island and read in a cafe, it seems as though this is the only vet practice on the island (this is unsubstantiated, a mere guess!). westiemum - not sure if they had an x-ray machine when you were there, but they do now - generously donated by one of the local bottle shops! it cost $11k, I was rather surprised at the benefactor, as I doubt there is much sponsorship 'benefit' so to speak, a generous contribution whatever the reason behind it! this first fella had had an elbow dislocation - a lucky diagnosis because they thought it may have been something requiring amputation.
  20. I'm back!! Beautiful place and will update with photos soon!! eta
  21. Westiemum, definitely give us a heads up next time you're in sydney!! I just got back from esther honey fndtn, it is so wonderfully run! I took plenty of photos and got lots of wigglebum cuddles and cleaned out a couple crates. The one thing I can say is that 'strays' here live a wonderful life, the worst is probably car accidents (they do a lot of amputations), and pups beings attacked by other big strays. Can honestly say theyre a laid back crew (the volunteers) and not too stressed. The guy running it has been there for 3.5 yrs, a long tenure when most do 2yrs. There is a vetnurse from melbourne coming to run the place next in a few weeks time. The things they need the most are vetgrade meds, ie for surgery and the only way it can come in without all the hideous red tape is by being carried in and declared. Apparently if there are available donations to send though, the lady who runs the website can always find willing volunteers to do the carry! (something to look into when I get back!). Hoping to get another visit in there soon! Will update photos and visit other threads when I get home as internet is slow here (and a bit exxy for what you get), and connection is hit and miss.
  22. Im off im off and managed to fit all but the retractable lead! But also a few items ripley donated too! Great to finalllllly meet you dogmad! And more cuddles for Gulliver pls!! better switch my phone off now... :p
  23. I can prob swing by your place dogmad! Was going to call you later today if you hadnt seen this.!
