How To Help When You Can't Foster?
Panto replied to Tuxie's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
If you drive, helping to transport dogs between shelters and temp care or foster is always needed too :) I am unable to foster but I collect towels, blankets and other donated items and take them to shelters and pounds along my travels. I'm also currently doing a tracksuit drive and making coats for shelter/pound/rescued dogs to help them keep warm, it's a no cost exercise. Happy to share how we are doing that if you are keen to join us from QLD! We are putting together instructional photos at the moment :) -
download an app called wikicamps RE caravan parks, big4 ones don't advertise dog friendly, it is up to the manager's discretion. So unless they say 'no dogs/pets', it is worthwhile calling and asking. enjoy the trip! eta: the app is $2-3 but is well worth it. It will show you which ones are free/dog friendly etc. maps and contact details, photos and even user reviews.

Troy, for some reason I was in General today which I rarely frequent. As there may be others in the same position, would you think it's worth while cross posting this in other areas that have high traffic too, eg. rescue/off topic? Thanks for the heads up.

Nope... I haven't picked a vet yet. I have been recommended by a Frenchie owner Vet HQ in Double Bay but that will cost Double Bay dollars... Also another Frenchie owner goes to Darlo Vet on Crown St. I might call then today/tomorrow. I don't really know what to say/do though aside from- "Hi. I'm getting a puppy on Saturday. What do I do besides bring him in in three weeks for his vaccination?" lol true true... not much you can do now other than go in and have a chat to them if they're not busy (that might be rare!) Just wanted to say I have a colleague who uses rose bay and says they're excellent. I used to live on crown st but haven't been to darlo vet, sorry. I did go to the one on cleveland st (at the end of crown) once, they were fine but we moved from the area without needing to visit again so don't really have an appraisal.

Recommended Groomer In Sydney / Gladesville Area
Panto replied to Aso's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi there, Are you willing to travel a little bit? The groomer attached to Stix n Bonez doggy day care behind Sydney Park is excellent. She operates under 'Dappa Dogs', her name is Melanie, the salon entrance is next door to the doggy day care. Bookings can be made directly with Melaine on 0412 042 051 -
DD it's not a criticism at you or anyone else curious about the outcome. "well said" means just that, a diplomatic response.

regardless of age and stupidity, if their love of dogs, their drive and passion could be refined to a more ethical approach, the world would be a better place. I hope one day they can do this, it would very much be welcomed. nice work sas Just before the thread goes. This post was very brave. Thank you skyefool. x2 here skyefool, I hope you have the fortune of never having to have someone like her cross your path.

A Little Dog's Journey To Safety
Panto replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Yet, people like you and your foster carer give others like me hope for humanity... because we know there ARE people who DO care... Loving your work my friend! T. Well said guys. Don't forget to fill your hearts with feel good stories, funny movies and things that make you grin from ear to ear, because not only do you guys (Jane, and rescuers alike) deserve this, your cup is full enough to keep on doing the great work you do. -
I knew I shouldn't stalk this thread... makes me want to get a pup now!! smashtank have you picked a vet yet?
-
maybe the parents (or even the whole family) flew up to get him and accompany him back...

my eyes are leaking reading Gnarla's story, I've just seen this. Cheryl, you and hub are gems. I think I have met you before..? I transported 16 year old Bless... apologies if I have made the wrong connection..! In any case - just want to see if you could use some puppy-sized coats for the pups? We have a bunch of pup sized ones we made at our recent workshop. Also happy to send some for other dogs you have in care, I just need some measurements (apx girth at the widest part, and the length of their back, ie. neck to base of tail). Not sure if we have any 50-55cm but can certainly take a look so it can supplement the one from kelpiecuddles.

Dog Jumper Workshops (from Old Tracksuits)
Panto replied to Panto's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
we tried some of them on and they do cover the base of the tail - most of them do anyways. they're not all going to be like that though (even though it is desired) as they're done by volunteers. the really tiny ones we figure can be used on pups, made from donated kids' trakkies. we tested our templates out and tried them on dogs before using those. I love that your post has rippled into this :) (btw, we are not claiming it as our own idea, if it is an original idea of yours and you want your name attached to it pls let me know!) It is an original idea of mine as I designed the first one with just a pair of scissors, some years ago, but I don't need any official credit. I am just delighted that my idea has snowballed and is helping rescue dogs to keep warm at no cost to anyone. You were the one who had the thought to do the trackie drive and organise a workshop so well done. we're neither doing it for ourselves, but for the doggies in need. Glad we're both on the same page! and thanks for coming up with the idea!! Ons - thank you!! Just had someone donate a whole large DJs bag of trakkies! I think we're collecting enough that soon we might ask for local volunteers to pick up, cut at home and return or post directly to needy dogs! -
popping my head in to stalk more piccies of little nacho... looking forward to nacho/moosey pics together!! how is the day going with a new baby mp???

Ok I Want To Foster But Need An Organisation
Panto replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
kelpiecuddles if you're having to wait a long time I wouldnt hesitate to perhaps a quick phone call? I ended up waiting nearly 4 months after having applied for my first choice (I was familiar with that group's name over the years), even after I had been accepted it was more wait more wait... Then I called the one I ended up with and I had a dog within just over a week, very efficient, and their support was great. Good luck!! -

This is probably maybe only a third or a quarter of the jumpers we managed to cut up..! sorted into sizes, and even teeny tiny coats for pups or kittens (if they wear them??!)
