Hi all, I am looking for any info or stories you may have about Cranial Cruciate ligament disease. My nearly 6 year old GSD has moderate HD in her right hip and now this in her left knee. She was xrayed yesterday and the vet had a really good look at her and this is the diagnosis he gave. As I live in the boonies, I will have to go to Melbourne for her surgery. What I am really keen to hear though is I believe there is some surgery that can be done before the ligament actually ruptures??? I am going to spend the weekend researching as best I can and then email the specialist. But would love to hear others experiences please? Thank you in advance for any help.

Triple Pelvic Osteotomy - Help
bianca.a replied to CooperRR's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Firstly I'm sorry you are faced with this My own Cooper who is now a 3 year old German Shepherd has had bilateral total hip replacements. If you can contact Dr Ray Ferguson (Melbourne)at Monash Veterinary Clinic, he is involved with Pennhip scoring. I visited him and he agreed that Dr Pete Laverty at http://www.melbvet.com.au/ was the best! I was also told by numerous vets and specialists that on a dog of Coopers size (he was 32ish KGS) that a TPO was not a good idea. Therefore we went with the THR twice. Anywhoo, I wish you all the best, it's shocking to receive that kind of news. -
I'm so sorry you are faced with this I just wanted to say that my now 3 year old GSD has had bilateral total hip replacements and he is now finally able to be a dog. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. I wish you both the best.

Questions For Owners Of Hd Dogs
bianca.a replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Not sure if this is what you are after but my male (GSD) was bred from hip scored (and every other test available) dogs and at 10 months he was diagnosed with severe HD. One specialist I saw who does pennhip scoring rated Coopers hip at 80/90. SO anywhoo Coop has had bilateral total hip replacements before age 3. -
I'm not sure if this will help, but one of my then 17 year old cats had what we were sure was a stroke. She couldn't walk straight, was drooling etc. It came on really sudden. A visit to the vet who at first thought it may be vestibulars, but bloods confirmed she was low in potassium. After about 3 days on potassium tablets she was fine. I wonder if that may be what is happening with your cat? Wishing you both all the best ((hugs))

Intermittent Bile Vomiting In The Mornings
bianca.a replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I also have a boy here who bile vomits if he gets his breakfast last. I feed him his joint supplements at nights (we call them his lollies) and that pretty much stops it. I would definitely try a small snack before bed for a week or two and see how he goes. Re the Blackhawk, my girl did ok on it, but Cooper skin was shocking so both are on Canidae and raw. -
My Cooper is from Raennik :) Looking on the Raennik site, and the life span of two of the bitches was rather poor with one passing away at 9 years of age and another at 6 years of age. My Diesel has had a score of health issues and is nearly 11 years old. Yes I did ask about that and unfortunately they were from snake bites

Your dogs are just so stunning with their beautiful shiny coats -
My boy is 100% working line and comes from a great breeder (some of her dogs are active police and corrections dogs). She does all possible health testing but sometimes there is just bad luck and that puppy became my dog.

Tay, they are gorgeous! -
Yes their health issues can be overwhelming My working line male has had 2 total hip replacements before he turned 3 I think no matter though, I will always have at least one in my life. Good luck with whatever you decide :)

This is my favourite thread! Well done to everyone! And my gosh those baby fluffy polar bears -
I am in East Gippsland and my vet opened an account with Vetpath (WA) as they are by far the cheapest lab to do it.

The other thing you could try if your vet is receptive is ask for a script and get it filled at the chemist. I always do that and it is sooo much cheaper.
