  1. I have a HS and I use a fursaver as a back up as once a link did come apart. Possibly I hadn't put it on properly but after that, I will never not use a back-up!
  2. Bummer! Thanks Jed :) Krystalandcoco - maybe we should have our own beginners training! The blind leading the blind!
  3. Bugger, I was seriously thinking about joining I am on the Sunshine Coast, does anyone know if there is anything up this way for a total newbie?
  4. Just my 2 cents worth, from my limited experience with my girl. She was much the same as what you describe and then that turned into barrier frustration = reactiveness. We have come a long way but still not perfect yet, slowly slowly! (oh and I did engage a great behaviourist).
  5. Oh my...Thea Rose NOTHING beats the black and tans :) She is beautiful!
  6. Well the vet drained 30mils out today Poor little bucket head  Keeping all paws crossed here that it doesn't come back.
  7. Wow that's weird but in a good way! Keeping all fingers and paws crossed here that it was just a one off thing and Troy will keep a clean bill of health :)
  8. Thank you both so much. GSD-fan - I will go and check out your thread to get the latest :) Pixie Meg - thank you so much, have pm'd you :)
  9. Thank you all. I took him back to the vet again today as over the weekend it got huge. Both dogs were there to have blood taken so the vet tried to fine needle aspirate it. Of course Cooper wasn't having any of that so only a small amount came out. I am taking him in on Wednesday morning to be sedated and it drained. I so hope that is the end but from everything I have read, it probably will come back GSD fan - how is Troy now? Any news yet? Becks- thank you, I will ask about the steroid injection on wed. Alyosha - thank you so much, I will do that! Warning icky pic below (from after the vet today)
  10. I will donate a little on payday. Hoping their luck takes a sharp turn for the better.
  11. Thank you for your replies :) He sleeps in his crate at night and that has a big soft bed in there. Ufortunately the little rat can still JUST squeeze under the couch and that is his favourite napping place during the day! And I can't drag him out! I had thought about ice but it is fluid filled so didn't think that would make a difference?
  12. Sorry I have no experience with this, but am keeping all fingers and paws crossed for a good scan result for Troy *hugs*
  13. Thank you for your reply :) We do have tile throughout and due to the heat he seems to prefer lying on the floor than his numerous beds. I'm not really sure how I can prevent him from doing that. He also has a bed in his crate. Just a bit concerned that this has happend at such an early age I started him on Traumeel last night, not sure that will do anything as it is fluid on the elbows. Thanks again :)
  14. My 14 week old GSD pup has hygromas on both elbows. The right is significantly worse than the left. I took him to the vets yesterday as I was worried it was a further reaction to his vaccines. The vet said that they should go away by themselves and that they were most likely caused by trauma. He is a rough and tumble little pup but I find it hard to imagine how hard he must have bumped himself to cause this. Pics. Left (not as bad) Any advice or tips would be greatly received thank you :)
  15. Is this something a 'normal' vet might stock or a specialist? I am going to my usual vet on Mon so could ask then but I could also call my girls ophthalmologist if needed?

  17. Love zooooooomies! And Roscoe you are the cutest!
  18. Both dogs inside, Molly free but Cooper (13 weeks) is crated.
  19. Thank you so much for all your help, I really do appreciate it :) I emailed my vet today so will wait and see what he has to say but I think I will titre test in a couple of weeks (need to do Molly as well) and take it from there. Thank you Jumabaar, I will keep your vet in mind. It's not so much the expense (although that will sting a bit) it's just wanting Cooper to be healthy. Also thanks to Kiwikitten, that is good to know. German-shep, his bowel motions seem much, much better thank you! I didn't take him to weigh last week (after vac) as I didn't want to risk being at the vet while sick so hopefully this week! Erny, thank you so much for taking the time to explain in detail. I have a better understanding now :) Secretkai, thank you :)
  20. I've been hunting around and found this: This is what Dr. Ronald Schultz had to say in his 2007 presentation to the AKC Canine Health Foundation entitled,What Everyone Needs to Know About Canine Vaccines and Vaccination Programs: http://www.puliclub.org/CHF/AKC2007Conf/What%20Everyone%20Needs%20to%20Know%20About%20Canine%20Vaccines.htm "My own dogs, those of my children and grandchildren are vaccinated with MLV CDV, CPV-2, CPI, andCAV-2 vaccines once as puppies after the age of 12 weeks. An antibody titer is performed two or more weeks later and if found positive our dogs are never again vaccinated. I have used this vaccination program with modifications (CAV-2 replaced CAV-1 vaccines in 1970's and CPV-2 vaccines were first used in 1980) since 1974! I have never had one of our dogs develop CDV,CAV-1 or CPV-2 even though they have had exposure to many dogs, wildlife and to virulent CPV-2 virus. You may say that I have been lucky, but it is not luck that protects my dogs, it is immunologic memory. The vaccines in the quote above are CDV (distemper), CPV-2 (parvovirus), CPI (canine parainfluenza), and CAV-2 (hepatitis), and Dr. Ronald Schultz is the Chair of the Department of Pathobiological Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. His challenge and serological studies on canine vaccines form a large part of the scientific data base upon which the 2003 and 2006 American Animal Hospital Association's Canine Vaccine Guidelines are based, as well as the 2007 World Small Animal Veterinary Association's Vaccine Guidelines.
