  1. Day 6 We are battling a skin problem more than the hip though http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/247082-clipper-rash-on-scrotum/page__p__6139889#entry6139889
  2. Thank you all so very much. I called the vet as soon as they opened and got an appointment at 10.30. Vet could see straight away how uncomfortable Coop was so he gave him some sedation. Waited, waited and then gave him a little more. Nope so he had a general anesthetic, they cleaned up the skin as best they could and covered it in Neocort, gave him a cortisone injection. He has Tramadol for pain, and they ordered some Cortavance (mine expired) that I can pick up tomorrow. He pongs and they said that is from the skin, it is peeling off. So I picked him up and got him home and he was still groggy so slept for 2 hours. He then woke up crying and was trying to get to it. So I gave him 2 Tramadol, his Ace and 2 x Arnica pills. It's almost more than I can bare seeing him like this, I know that is a bit dramatic but it's bloody awful I emailed that photo to the surgeon and my vet spoke to him today. I am really pissed that he is suffering.
  3. Thank you so much Trinabean! Everyone is so kind here and I value the good thoughts. I will try and get into the vet first thing in the morning. He needs to be free of this so he can recover with the hip.
  4. Awww he sounds beautiful and I wish you and him all the best too. It's awful to see our friends suffer so much.
  5. It wasn't until we got home and then later when I went to take him out to toilet I have emailed the surgeon. I've got him on probiotics and cooked pumpkin now and when he went after dinner, he seemed to pass it A LOT easier.
  6. Thank you, I should have said the only 'cleaning' I was trying to do was around his rectum as he was bleeding and it was dirty. Yes I can't understand why they had to do such a severe clipping job, his penis is shaved too Bloody hell Grabonsam your poor boy That is horrific
  7. Thanks all, he has had his sedation now so I think I will leave it be for tonight
  8. Eeek I don't want to make it worse. I think I will just have to leave it be and try and get into the vet first thing in the morning. Thanks all, I really appreciate the responses.
  9. Thank you TLC I hope someone can confirm as I actually have that! Regardless I will take him to the vet tomorrow. This is just adding misery to the poor boy
  10. Thank you so much, I am stessing here Just checked and the only spray I have is Cortavance Cutaneous Spray (I think from a bad hotspot)or I have illium neocort cream but I don't think he will let me touch it.
  11. Hi all, So Cooper came home yesterday from his hip replacement and the vet said he had clipper rash on his scrotum and they had put something on it but not to worry as he is on anti-biotics and anti-inflamms. It looks painful as all hell and he is really bothered by it. I have just emailed our local vet and asked if we should go in tomorrow can he do anything. But just curious if anyone has any ideas what I can do. He is growling at me now (never does this) when I try to clean it (saline) and also his anus. He was constipated and bleeding a bit. I have this spray which is Calendula, Witch Hazel, Yucca and Golden seal It's going to be a long 6 weeks
  12. Thank you all so much, I really do appreciate the thoughts and ideas (hugs) I worry about the crate too, it just doesn't seem that big with the HUGE cone on. All night he has been in the bedroom with a baby gate so he can actually see me (on the couch). I think I will see how he does like that and maybe only crate him when I have to pop out. He ate his dinner with gusto and has only had one big drink. He still hasn't peed since we've been home. I am hoping that is normal due to the meds and him sleeping so much.
  13. Oh and by 4x4 crate, do you have any recommendations please? It would need to be solid enough that he can't move it and high enough he wouldn't think of jumping up? Thank you, I'm so worried I'm going to do something wrong.
  14. Oh thank you so much Laneka, that helps my stress! The vet said he has clipper rash on his scrotum and had put a cream on it. But this is anus, he is currently lying with his butt up against the wall but when he moves (has been asleep for a couple of hours) I will gently put a warm compress (saline) on it and then use Anusol. I think that should be ok. Poor guy
  15. Thank you both so much! He is HOME!!!! Although now I'm nervous I'm going to cock something up. I assume it's from a combination of different food, the drugs and not being able to 'assume the correct position' but his bottom is red and is bothering him. He's on antibiotics for three weeks, anti-inflams and sedation. I take off the Fentanyl patch and dressing on Monday. Then 7 days after my vet will take out the staples and we go back to Melbourne in six weeks for a check-up with xrays. So for the next 6 weeks he has to be confined and on lead to toilet but he is allowed to slowly walk for up to 10 minutes on those breaks. I had bought 2 Cloud Collars hoping he could wear that but even the XL one allows him to lick his bottom So Cooper is a cone head and it doesn't really work in his crate. So for the moment he is on a single bed mattress with a baby gate on the bedroom floor.
  16. Thank you all so much :) Today he went for a little walk and is using the leg! He also has a great appetite! (No surprise there  ) It will be a wait and see approach as to the other hip I guess it really depends on how well he copes with this one. To be honest I'm not sure about the process (blushes) They did use bone cement?
  17. My girl didn't need one after de-sexing but when she got her first hotspot- well now I have 3!!!! My foster dog needed one after his surgery but only for the first night. SuziWong, that is interesting about the cloud collar. I have bought 2 (not sure of sizing) for Cooper when he comes home from his THR. Will be interesting to see how it works on him :) Good luck with Fennir tomorrow :)
  18. I know you said you had a really good look but is there any chance there is a small fragment of bone stuck?
  19. You are doing amazing things with her Jelly. Roo is so lucky to have you. One day at a time (hugs) and a gentle hug for poor Roo with her owie. Perhaps she needs a ferret friend
  20. I just wanted to update, Coop had a marathon 5 plus hour surgery today and it went well! He is on a morphine drip and the specialist expects him to start weight bearing a little on the leg tomorrow! He is going to call me in the morning so I should know more then. Miss my goofy black lump. Post op xrays
