Same with Baxter - it rained so much here with no breaks in between that we didn't have the chance to mow till couple weeks ago...before that Baxter would do his job right near the house or mainly where we usually walk - eww lol - Now that its short (kind of, almost the second day without rain this week need mowing again but still not as bad as it was) he does it around the backyard near the fence

Advertisement A CALLOUS and premeditated attack with a high-powered bow and arrow on a beloved family dog has shocked its owners and seasoned Gatton veterinary surgeons. Emergency surgery managed to save the life of 12-year-old kelpie Bosca. Owners Trevor and Sue Whitehall, of Mt Berryman, were horrified to find Bosca stumbling up the driveway of their 607-hectare cattle property with an arrow protruding either side of his body on Tuesday afternoon. “He has walked three kilometres up the driveway to the homestead. We spotted him and knew something was wrong. “When we went out to see what was going on, we noticed an arrow through him and he was just covered in blood and in obvious distress,” Mr Whitehall said. The Whitehalls, who have lived on the property for 21 years, have been left shocked at the thought that someone could intentionally do this to any animal. “He is such a faithful and gentle dog and it sickens me that someone could deliberately and intentionally do this to any animal. “It was heartbreaking to see an animal that we love so dearly in pain. “It bought a tear to my eye,” Mrs Whitehall said. Knowing that Bosca was in dire need of medical attention, the Whitehalls immediately drove the 30 minutes to the Gatton Veterinary Surgery where staff were shocked at the brutality and extent of his injuries. Senior veterinary surgeon Joseph Olm was on duty when Bosca was presented at the surgery and said that he was in disbelief that the dog had actually survived. “The arrow entered just behind the front leg and proceeded through his chest and out the other side. It missed his spinal cord by one centimetre and became lodged in between two vertebrae,” Mr Olm said. “He is so lucky to be alive. He really should have died. He certainly is one tough dog, it’s unbelievable,” he added. After performing immediate surgery, staff were in disbelief at the senseless nature of the attack on a harmless animal. “For someone to have the mindset to do this to an animal... it’s barbaric. It’s disturbing to think that there are people like that out there,” Mr Olm said. Laidley Police are investigating the incident and Sgt Dave Grave said that cruelty to animals was a very serious offence and those responsible would be dealt with harshly. “It’s definitely not good but we’re hoping it’s an isolated incident. “Those responsible however will be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Sgt Grave said. Anyone with any information on this barbaric and senseless attack on Bosca is urged to contact Laidley Police Station on 07 5466 8000. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How can someone do that?? Poor Bosca, lucky he survived but he sure could have done without it!

Puppies Being Sold Without Microchips...
♥Baxter♥ replied to The Teacup Warrior's topic in General Dog Discussion
Its compulsory in QLD but 99% of pets are sold/given away without it being done.. I leave it to the Council to deal with it, I sure have enough to do & I'm sure you do to, reporting every single case would be a never ending story. -
A little confused here...my cousin that lives in Quebec a has a guide dog & she tells me that she isn't allowed to give her any bones & raw food etc...? Why is that?? Bit strange?

Wow a do not talk to LIST?? First I hear from it! Very curious now, could someone kindly pm it to me???? Thanks!

Haven't read many reply, but 'a breeder already contacted me wanting to breed from her' is surely not an ethical breeder!

Weird Behaviour From 5 M/o Puppy
♥Baxter♥ replied to Seita's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks JulesP! I now know how newbies feel when they ask a simple question and get inundated with what the posters I'm sure all think is helpful but actually seems quite critical! It just felt like everyone was going "ahh this is food agression rah rah rah" and you need to do five squillion things to stop it IMMEDIATELY or you will die!!! Ok that may have been slightly exaggerated.... To clarify - My dogs all live by the NILIF principles, all do TOT for their food, all will recall away from ANY food, all have never ever shown any sign of food aggression EVER. My puppy was just doing something interesting that I had never seen before and was curious if anyone else had ever experienced it or why he might be doing it. Question has been answer, dog does not have food aggression nor will he ever develop it while he lives with me. Back to usual transmission! What is this?? ;) Thanks -
Just came across this thread! Will get the book too!

OH! So sorry !!(a very cute BT) I was trying to figure out during the movie if it was for real or not but couldn't. Thanks

because there are many that don't. Many people do the old "turn away and pretend I haven't seen what is happening" trick. That is when I smile, present them with a bag and say " you obviously didn't see him doing his business, here's a bag". I once copped the other end of it (so to speak :D ) - I ALWAYS pick up my dog's poo but once I was walking her in my local park, she stopped, I saw she did a wee, and kept walking... Some guy pushing his kid in a pram abused me for not picking up her poo!!! ;) I walked over and explained I could tell she hadn't done one, then he pointed to an old one someone else hadnt picked up! To me it was very obvious it wasn't her poo (aside from seeing her weeing, it was old and dark brown- Honey's are never like that) but I shut up and picked it up anyway, what else could I do? :D I quite often pick up other poos that have been left behind (I'd hate a dog hater to punish all of us for one wrong deed), so I was MORTIFIED this guy thought I'd left it behind... Actually, a little OT but on the subject of pooing- I just assume everyone knows the different postures of dogs pooing (back humped right over, bum tucked under) and weeing (front bum low to ground, tail up, back straight, chest up). Makes sense a non dog owner wouldnt, but do all of you? Yes i have had that happen to me before! It was an older couple- i actually asked them to show me where the poo was, they pointed to this ancient, white, crumbly thing and I could not believe they thought my dog could have just done that Some people think anytime a dog squats it is pooing.

Has anyone seen it??? He has wheels/harness attached so he can walk around, I wonder how long the dog can stand like that?

There is a well known culprit in my area...when my daughter starts school next year Baxter & I will go for a nice walk, pick up its poo, and put it on their front lawn. ETA - Not Baxter's poo - But the Rottie's poos that its owner never pick up**
