PEARL HAS FOUND HER FOREVER HOME  The family were really lovely and they loved her right from the start, she loved them aswell and was really good when meeting them. They had a game of ball and spent time cuddling her and she enjoyed every minute of it! I'm very happy with her new family and i think Pearl is to. At this stage she will be leaving me next weekend after she has been to the vet through the week.

Thanks we think so to! She joined us when she was 6.5 yrs of age and i had a 1 yr old son and a small dog already + 2 cats so when she just fit right in i was sooooo happy :)

Thank You all for your love and support of Pearl, i will definatly be asking for updates you don't have to worry about that! She won't be able to go to her new home today ( if they decide to adopt her ) she will be with me for another 2 weeks at least. Bulldogs are beautiful pets i love everything about them. Here is a before and after picture of my girl LULU that i adopted from the pound November 2010 in a mess. She to was used as a breeder and dumped at 6.5 yrs of age The day i got LULU she was underweight at 25kg LULU now at 32.5kg

Hi All, Sorry yes it has been awhile since i have updated Pearl's thread. Pearl is doing really well, she is very happy and has improved so much, she is still going steady on her meds and her skin is improving everyday and she is now 26.5kg so we are happy with that and hoping to keep her in that range. Pearl loves my dogs and they all get along really well but alas she does try and eat the cats so sometimes that makes it a bit hard here with 3 cats. I have a wonderful home lined up for pearl with a family from Sydney that have a 12 yr old desexed Male Bulldog and a 14 yr old Foxi and NO CATS so its pefect for her. The family are lovely and are so excited to meet her which should be this weekend so if all that goes well then in a couple of weeks she will be off to her new home Here are some photo's i took of Pearl half and hr ago ;) You can see here that her hair is growing back nicely, it's taken a long time but its getting there!

She looks fantastic Ams, Thank You so much for taking her she was a delight to temp test and to spend time with! She is one special girl and i know she will find the perfect home

Hawkesbury Urgent Pound Listings
kelscats replied to AWDRI's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
You know what i am sick of this crap, AWDRI if your VOL can't tell the diffrence between the 2 dogs then YOU or someone else should explain a bit better what they are at the pound to collect. As you have said the dogs were opposites so surely if you told someone to collect a 2 yr old Border x Kelpie and the pound staff walked out with the old dog surley a question would be asked. Bottom line ASK THE POUND STAFF i can only do my best and it seems that from this thread and others in the past that it's not really good enough. I have spent endless hours over the last 2 years VOL'ing at Hawkesbury and that has been at the expense of my partner of 9 years and my 3 year old son. I don't think i will bother anymore seems that my efforts are only picked on and aren't good enough So over it all -
Here are 2 pics of Pearl from yesterday :)

Hi All, I just wanted to update and say that Pearl is doing really well, she has been back to the vet today and has gotten another 2 weeks of anti bioctics but the vet has halved her dose of one of her meds. Pearl is happy and has a great time here, she is now 25kg and loves chicken necks and wings and well anything really  She loves my 2 dogs and spends alot of time with them and still loves to chase down a ball but we don't let her do that to often as she gets worn out easily. Pearl is doing so well that she is being desexed next, we are all so happy with her progress she is an amazing girl :) Photo's to come tomorrow!

Hi Ladies, Pearl is doing really well, the hair on her back is growing back and her skin is loose now instead of big hard lumps ( if that makes sense ). She's still on her meds and is heading back to the vet on Monday for another check up and to see if her steriods should be lessened. Il post some new pics in a few days when i get the chance to get some its soooo wet around here in the hawkesbury and we are expected to flood today!
-
Thanks everyone, we love her she is such a nice girl. She is great with the other dogs and OMG does she love the ball... The pics of her looking up are at her football she LOVES it and also the yellow ball that she bought with her! She is improving daily and i can't wait to see her in a couple of more weeks!

Hi All, Just thought i'd start a new thread for Pearl as the other one is soooo long! Pearl is doing so well and id like to thank some of the lovely ladies on her for donating towards Pearl's vet fees Here are some pictures of Pearl from this afternoon enjoy :)

For me there is no issue at all, i went to the pound with my stuff to temp test i was told that the dogs that were on the list were safe so i went out the back and spent time with the 2 bulldogs one of which i came home with. That is why there is no thread for hawkesbury this week. Next Monday i will be there taking photo's for the urgents as per normal just like i was there this week.
-
As i said in my earlier post, i was there tuesday with my camera ready to meet the dogs and get their photo's but ann said there were no dogs left on the list they all had rescue or were safe with adoption. What people don't realise with hawkesbury is if there are 20 dogs DUE by the thursday they ALL go on the list if they have saves or not. Then they go through and x off the dogs that have options but as a rule ALL dogs go on the list to begin with. So if they have a list with 20 dogs on it there might actually only be 5 that have no options. The pound staff have never stopped me personally from taking photo's or notes or anything. What they have or have not done with other people i cannot comment because i don't know.
-
How we have have always done it is photograph the dogs that are on the PTS list for the week the ones that have nothing get photograped first and we work from there. So i would go into the pound on a Monday see Thursday's list if there are 5 dogs with Nothing i do them first then move onto the dogs that have a name or more etc.
-
Hi Greytpets, I was at the pound yesterday with my camera to photograph the urgents for DOL. I asked Ann for the list and she said the last 2 dogs that were on the list had just been picked up by rescue ( i seen this myself and this lady also took a surrender from the day before ). Ann showed me the list there was only about 6 - 8 dogs on it all of which had either left the pound or had saves. I have also since seen dogs in need on FB but not sure why they are in need when yesterday they were safe.

British Bulldog - Flea Allergy Dermatitis
kelscats replied to Carlo11's topic in General Dog Discussion
Pearl has been back to the vet tonight for a check up after a week on her meds and she is doing really well. The vet is very happy with her progress and now the skin that was like a big hard ball is now soft and getting better. She is off to the vet again in 7 days for another check up and to monitor her progress. More photo's coming in a couple of days :) -

Just imagine where Pearl would be if you hadn't persisted with her owners to let you have her! I always wonder the same things as you have said above Carlo11 what about the neighbours that would have seen not only Pearl in that yard but the other dogs aswell. The people that walked past their house over the years and ignored what they could see in this backyard. You were the only person that bothered to stop and help Pearl and for that she and i will be forever grateful she will now get the best possible home she can have and enjoy the rest of her life being treated like she should have all along. Do what you feel is right re the vet as also said above they are all diffrent and a third vet would have probarly come up with a diffrent soloution and treatment. They all have diffrent ideas on how to run their practice and how they do things, like some rescue vets will desex kittens and young puppies where as others will refuse until the animal is 6 months so again its a matter of how diffrent vets run their practice. Just rembember you did the right thing by Pearl from day 1 when you didnt have to you could have been like everyone else and ignored her, you took her into the 1st loving home she has ever had and got her treated by a vet which im sure was the 1st time she had seen a vet! Don't beat yourself up Carlo11 your awesome! -
